Thought about adding this to the season long championship thread, but decided to create a stand alone thread. The current format has been criticized by SOU for an undeserving champion. Now that we are in the Round of 8, who is underserving based on their season long body of work to contend for and/or win the championship?

Here we go…..

To tell you the truth, NONE of the 8 really excite me for the season they have had, but SOMEBODY has to win it. Larson has been pretty good, but has been on a long OK but not great streak, Byron and Elliott scored a lot of points, but I'd rate both as disappointing. Blaney has been fast, but a TON of DNFs. Bell was fast early, and then went into a slump. Denny has been hot and cold. In my opinion Logano and Briscoe don't belong at all, but none of the 8 eliminated drivers are any better. Really a mediocre year for championship contenders.

I would like to see either the 12 or the 22 win. I think that would guarantee there would be a new point system for next year.

Being that it’s still technically Penske equipment and ends at Phoenix, I really would have liked to see Berry make it for that reason, though I do like him (as much as I can a Penske affiliated guy)

Berry is old news. The gerbils won't mention him unless he wrecks, or heaven forbid he wins. He would get the SVG treatment. About a 10 second interview and a glance at him standing on the podium.

Yeah, but that happened under the old system and will happen under any new one. The winner of the final race will always get overlooked for the new champion.

Berry or SVG specifically weren't champions. SVG won 5 road courses in a row tying Jeff Gordon's long standing record, and they spent more time interviewing backwards Chastain, and cut off Logano than they spent with SVG.

Berry’s luck was atrocious.

Getting wrecked by Elliott did me in and I just know Elliott will win it all because that’s how it works for me.

Darlington lap 1 appeared to be less on luck and more on him being too aggressive too early. Just my interpretation.

Everyone in the field has made an error at some point this year. Everyone. And honestly, most of the time, a lap one wreck is a setup issue. Not saying this one was.

Even without that mistake, Berry would’ve missed the next round because of bad luck at Bristol and getting wrecked by Elliott in St. Louis.

There are plenty of instances this year where he had top five cars and his pit crew blew it or some other dumb **** happened.
