Whos your longshot to make the chase?

I like seeing someone rally to get in. Hasnt been done since i guess mayfield.

I hate burton as much as the next guy but i think he has a prayer. So i will go with him
 
I wasnt aware there was Burton hate? I mean, I get not being a complete fan of him, but I cant imagine he has really done anything to be specifically DISliked. That being said, I like him and think he has a chance if he runs like he has been the last couple of weeks.

Another long shot, surprisingly, I think would be Montoya. He has actually got some very solid oval runs in this year and has competed for the win at least twice I believe. He would need that Glen win though to make that happen.

Other than that I think its probably going to be someone in 14th in points or up that get in. Those points are so close between 9th and 14th
 
Burton confuses me. I dont know how he has a sponsor, how he has a good ride, and why everyone calls him the mayor like his opinion matters. He hasnt done anything since what 08? 09?

Anyway thats just my opinion. I do agree with montoya though. Always liked him, but reality is hes gotta win. I dont see it.

Im not necessarily a Montoya guy, but I think he is having a good year with good potential. I guess theres not any drivers i specifically dont like other than Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson. And as a person, Johnson is actually hard to not like... More so just the whole winning all the time thing and Chad Knaus.

A real longshot would be Logano at this point. Anyone from 11 through 15 or so can actually even make it to the top 10 if they have solid finishes.

That ship has sailed.

He cant even make it to the top 20 anymore.

He's 126 points out of 20th place with 7 races till the chase.

He would have to win multiple races just to get to 20th then he needs to leap frog all those guys in 12-18 who already have a win. Yeah he's done.
 
Yep denny gotta get a win though. Keep that sreak goin. Tell u what though. Kenseth is showing everyone denny,kyle, and roush fenway are all overrated

I'm fine with Gordon, Johnson at the helm. The other two are just fillers imo. Jr is Hendrick's cash cow so he's serving at purpose at least. lol

Sometimes I am. lol

I am a fan of his by default though. Somehow it makes me feel better knowing that Gordon had alot to do with Jimmie been where he's at right now in the sport.

At least your sticking with him.. Seems a lot of the 'fans' who jumped board in the 90s have since left and hitched themselves the 48 bandwagon. I kinda feel sorry for Gordon

There is nothing to feel sorry for him about.

He did his thing in his early years. All these new breed of fans who jump ships the minute they see their driver have a bad year aren't really a fan of anyone.

I'm also resigned to the fact he's not what he once was. We Gordon fans can only hope for a few wins here and there. I do not think he can actually contend for championships anymore.

Funny how that whole thing worked out, isn't it? Carl is in 3rd, so RFR is still doing OK. Matt arrives at JGR and starts winning races, then Denny picks a fight with Logano and gets hurt, and now Kyle is picking a fight with Newman. Are those 2 feeling some stress?

Juan Montoya. four tracks he's pretty good at are left. The team is shaping into form, he should be contending for wins at the glen and Indy Sunday.

Gotta correct you there dude. A lot of us Gordon fans were on board with JJ until he stole Gordon's championship, then won 4 more. Me, ya know I'd rather Gordon or Jimmie win rather than anyone else but at times the jealousy gets to me. Frustrating to see his teammate be so dominate and Gordon struggles to get a single victory and make the chase. As long as Gordon grabs a W in the next 7 races he will make it. Still confident in the 24 team but damn it's rough.

No need to feel jealous man.

I dont feel like Jimmie stole anything. He's just that good.

Alot of Earnhardt fans felt the same way when Gordon came along.

The media may portray Johnson as the best driver ever or what have you but in the hearts and minds of the actual fans who watches and breathes this sport they know what's what.

Jimmie is an excellent driver but is he better than those guys? Very questionable.

As it stands at the moment Johnson its still behind both big E. And Gordon as far as I'm concerned. Its not all about piling on wins, its about what you do for the sport and how you transcend it.

Those 5 championships in a row go a longgggg way toward making your mark but there is more than that.

Then again, Johnson still has time on his side so who knows where he'll end up.
 
Like I've said before, when Johnson gets his 8th championship the Earnhardt nation will freak because Big E's accomplishment was surpassed before Jr even has 1.

No, he's not going to win 8 championships. Its not out of the realm of posibilities but 8 seems out of reach. 6 will be his ceiling before he starts the decline like all the greats.

I laugh everytime people say Gordon used to be a good restarter. Cant even remember when that was the case.
 
He's already got 5 and is still on an upward climb. Unless they let Knaus leave I don't see why 3 more isn't predictable.

For the longest time they have had Gordon set to fail. Sucks on restarts, great on the long runs at short tracks - so in summary the GWC is NASCAR's way of saying "**** you".

Difference is, a new generation came in during Gordon's time just like Gordon and others came in during Earnhardt's time. Right now, there's nobody new to the series who's good enough to stop Jimmie. Carl's failed. Kez isn't running well. Kyle might be the only one but he falls apart mentally every time he races against someone equal to him.

I don't like Jimmie Johnson but I would love to see him win eight to solidify that he's the greatest driver in NASCAR history. And, like him or hate him, I think he will go down in history as the greatest ever.

We shall see.

As of right now he's definitely not the greatest driver ever. In fact I dont think he will reach that pinnacle.

Now if he does win the hypothetical 8th championship one would most definitely have to give him that nod.

I think Chad Knaus has alot to do with his success.

The greatest ever in my opinion does good no matter with who he's paired up with. It would be something to see him win races and championships through different crew chiefs like he is now with Chad.

Its like Everham. He made Gordon exceptional. I'd say if they had stuck together longer Gordon would have at least 2 more championships and a hell of alot more wins. He hasn't been the same since they split.

You know a driver is for real when he goes through multiple crew cheifs and still wins championships. Not alot of drivers have been able to adapt to changes like a select few in the garage.

We would probably never know how good or how mediocre Jimmie really is when faced with those kind of situations.

There are really too many variables today to really say who's the greatest ever. Perhaps a better way to put it is saying Johnson is the greatest driver of his time.

Overall though he's just not. At least not right now.
 
Without a couple flat tires Joey would most likely still be inside or right around the top 10. Only 36 points out right now I can admit it has become a long shot but I still think he can make it. Just need to get that pre Daytona momentum rollin again. Hopefully that win yesterday is the start of it.

Mayfield? What about Gordon last year? He was 22nd in points 107 points behind 10th place Carl Edwards after the Coke 600. Got that rain win at the 2nd Pocono race and it came down to the last few laps at Richmond where he rallied back from having a terrible race car to finish 2nd and take the final wildcard spot from Kyle Busch. If thats not rallying back to make the chase I dont know what is.

Without a doubt Chad is the main reason for the 48 success, the truck comes off the hauler every week and is usually one of the fastest cars if not the fastest.. when jimmy ran in the Nationwide/Busch series he was a below average driver showing he is only as good as the cars under him.
 
The main reason for the 48 success is $$$$. No one puts more money into a car than them. That's why it seems they get slapped on the wrist the most - it's because they're inventing the most ways to find speed. The more $$$$ you have, the more time/resources you have to invent. The more you invent, the more opportunities for you to "violate" rules. It's really that simple.

I agree . Folks do not seem to equate the money and the speed . The one hundreth of a second in a qualifying lap that is the difference between first and fifteenth . That fraction of a second might have cost $50m or $100m .People say winning at a superspeedway is mostly luck , except that Jimmie Johnson does it more often than anybody else . It maybe luck , but it is bought and paid for .
