WNBA

I'm still here for Caitlin Clark, but Lexie and Spicy Sophie make it even better over here. Plus, Sophie's an enforcer, something I've been begging Indiana for.
I'm here for the whole squad. Still gotta see them in action, but on paper, Indiana has replaced Connecticut as my 1B team. Minnesota is still my 1A. Not sure of my third team yet. That'll probably have to be settled after the season starts. On paper, it's between Golden State, LA, and Phoenix.

And you know who my favorite team is. 😂

Golden State might be my "1B" team because of Kate Martin.

Frick it, one more.

When Barstool agrees…

It’s definitely in EVERYONE’s best interests to not make it to where these girls HAVE TO go to Russia and China or have to compete in Unrivaled.

We don’t know the seriousness of Angel’s injury yet but it’s a big blow to Chicago if she can’t play because she got hurt in an offseason league.

Yep, exactly what I was saying earlier. I think Marina got hurt a while back, too. Change takes time, but I hope things eventually change for these ladies. I'd 100% support them if they decided to sit out for any portion of 2026 to fight for a better deal.

Just so no one gets it twisted, it's not just the heels like Angel Reese and DiJonai Carrington discussing the possibility of a future lockout. Phee has now come out and said that the players have been discussing and are prepared for such a possibility. As a mere fan posting on a message board who doesn't know all the insider details of how the league operates as a business, I think what they're asking for sounds fair.

They look foolish demanding more money from an organization that has lost millions every year of its existence.

I understand there is a new TV contract but don't follow it closely enough to know when that starts.

Even Barstool agrees with Angel and Dijonai though.

The problem is that these girls have to play in China and Russia, two countries that are very hostile to us, to make a living wage.

The optics of paying them more is worth the price.

Yeah, I don't think Angel, DiJonai, Phee, and the rest of the players look foolish at all here - quite the opposite IMO.

The league has steadily grown since COVID and exploded last year with the arrival of everyone's favorite super rookie. As a result of all that growth, there's gonna be more money to go around, and these ladies just want their fair share of it.

They're not asking for the same amount of money that NBA players get. They're simply asking for the same percentage of revenue sharing from the WNBA that NBA players get from the NBA. I hope they get what they're seeking and a lockout is avoided, but if a lockout happens, I'll support them 100%.

I'm not influenced by what Barstool thinks.

They do look foolish.

They don't HAVE to work in China or Russia.

Look, I'm all for them getting paid more once the league can afford it. Or do away with the pay structure and let the better players earn more.

"Gonna be" doesn't pay today's bills, much less decades of huge losses.

I'm not influenced by what Barstool thinks, either, but I'm with them and the players on this one, Dudley. I don't think they look foolish at all here and think their request is a fair one. Feel free to disagree all day long.

To clarify, as I said earlier, this lockout talk is about the next CBA that will have to be agreed to by the end of October, not the current CBA that the players opted out of. It's not about "today's bills" or any past bills. It's about what things will look like moving forward, when, yes, there will be more money to go around. That's literally the reason why a lockout is even being discussed. The players want a bigger piece of that growing pie than they're currently getting.

I am and I do.

Okay. As I said, I have no problem with them getting more money if the new TV contract justifies it.

Now if they would just recognize why there will be more money to go around...

It will justify it, and Caitlin has already received and continues to receive her flowers from plenty of active and former players, coaches, commentators, etc.

Natasha Cloud to New York.

Good move by both teams, and great news for my girl Tash, who is suddenly going to get everything she respectfully said that she wanted in that presser. I'm so hyped for her. Crazy how her offseason has now shown both the worst and the best of the whirlwind business of professional sports.

Meanwhile, Connecticut is quietly turning lemons into lemonade and legitimately rebuilding with all these 2025 draft picks. Not sure who will go #7, #8, and #25, but this should obviously be another good draft class overall.

I selfishly want them to trade Marina to Phoenix now, but I'm not counting on that happening, especially after her agent's IMO silly, overzealous comments when they initially refused to trade her. EIther way, they have a good front office that knows what they're doing.

That said, their offseason didn't just happen out of nowhere, in a vacuum. It's well past time for them to start looking into building a new, dedicated practice facility if they haven't already done so. If they don't, they'll just find themselves in this same exact situation again at some point down the road.

I think I might have watched one or two games on actual TV last year. I will continue to swear by the absolute steal that is the WNBA League Pass, where every game is available. Anyone who is even remotely serious about watching The W should have it.
