Would you be interested in doing a greatest Cup driver of all-time poll? Tournament or elimination style.

I already have it formatted and ready for posting, but not sure if there is an interest?
It will take over a month to cycle through them all, and need some good participation to be worthwhile.

FFF, you know that Dale Sr. would be at the top of some (many) people's lists...

How many drivers would be in the running?

36 total.
-Including every active driver with 10 plus cup wins.
-So the selection would be about a 50/50 mix of active and inactive drivers.
-Plus one wild card round that would include others outside the top 36.

-Those poll winners would advance to the 2nd round. A one on one elimination, seeded based on who has the most votes.

-The process of elimination would continue down to the final two in a head to head vote.
Works like a real elimination tournament or playoff.

Including Derrick Cope is a nope.

Well, Greg... Why Not!?

With the way you explained it, I say go for it! I mean, what's the worst that could happen, besides Dale Sr winning best of all-time, that is... ;)

I'll play!

I'm thinkin that there were some great drivers who had their careers shortened early and some who ,through good fortune , got to run an awful lot more races . Should be an interesting vote.

Jeff Gordon. NOBODY comes close to how he dominated the modern era in the late 90's / early 2000's.

That was only because Davey Allison and Alan Kulwicki where no longer with us :(

That's what I mean right there . Makes it interesting .They say Richard Petty was the winningest driver of all time but didn't he also run the most races?..And what about Tim Richmond , even Dale Sr said he was great, didn't he ?

5 wins in 207 starts doesn't even put Kulwicki on my list.

Davey Allisons 19 wins in 191 starts is impressive, and his 45% top 10 ratio is damn good.

Racing many of the same guys Davey did, Jeff had 42 wins in his first 189 Cup races and a near 70% top 10 ratio.

Jeff Gordons numbers are the only ones that compare to the pre-modern era greats, and Jeff did it against a higher level of competitive teams.

Both Alan Kulwicki and Davey Allison where just coming into ther own when we lost them you can pull stats out of your ass all day long butt I'll Guarentee you with Alan and Davey around Gordon would not have the stats he has.....nuff said not argueing with you cause you just don't know.

I am curious how you decided that there was a lower level of competition in the mid late 80's than there was in the 90's when Gordon made his numbers?
