I think that in NASCAR there always seems to be almost a "changing of the guard" sort of thing. Sr. ruled until Gordon came around, Gordon dominated until JJ showed up...the only question is..who's next?

I'm excited about the changing of the gurad this time around. We've been watching the same 13 or 14 drivers compete for chase spots, and they all fell into the 'gentlemans' agreement form of racing. The new blood is coming in under the 'have at it' era, and we'll soon be watching the end of the 'position means everything' mentality. Once again, speed will rule, and guys will be moved out of the way.

Kyle has that attitude, but gets too wild. Kez has the attitude too. Stenhouse is old school, and he'll be in cup sooner than many think. Even Trevor uses his bumper in NW.

Thank you. "Coulda if" just doesn't cut it when put against "Actually did".

Jeff Gordon ruled nascar against some great drivers, and he did it very early in his career. It's no coincidence Dale Sr didn't win another championship after Jeff came into his own.

Dale was past his prime, in 1995 he was 45. Bobby Allison won it at 45 a rare accomplishment, the oldest champ ever.

Just look at 40 y/o Gordon, not as good as 30 y/o Gordon.

Really???! Why is that silly? He already has 100 NASCAR wins and he's only 26years old! Petty ran multiple races per week at times. Kyle runs multiple races per week at times. 200 wins is 200 wins... :D

Cup wins are all that matter. Anyone that thinks Kyle will get to 200 CUP wins is just fooling themselves. Just like his brother after a few more years he will lose interest in the sport.

All very good points. I'll just say that Dale said at the start of the 2001 that he felt better than he had in ten years. Something to do with getting his neck fixed, which had him in great pain for years.

In '95, Jeff geat Dale by just 34 points, and had to best Marlin, Martin, Wallace and a few other great drivers. In '97, it was a close race with Jarret and Martin. In '98, the competition fell off, and Jeff trashed the competition. Jarrett came back and won it all in '99. Labonte won it in 2000, with Sr in second. In 2001, Jeff beat out Tony stewart. If someone feels Jeff made his career by racing a bunch of has beens, I say the facts say otherwise. What stalled Jeff's career was losing his long time CC, Evernham. If JJ loses Knause, he'll fall off quite a bit too.

Lets not forget that without the change in the championship system, Jeff would have beaten JJ twice. That's how good the guy still is over a whole season. Chad Knause figured out how to play the chase before anyone else did, and that benifited Jimmie greatly. Jimmie could go on to be the greatest ever. Only time will tell.

IMO, right now it's Jeff Gordon for his huge modern era win total, 4 championships and still being near the top after 20 years.

However, one thing I will argue you is how do you figure that Henrick had the "best equipment" at the time JG came in? Hendrick was not the "biggest dog on the block" at that time. Because of the money Hendrick has made since then, in part thanks to JG, Hendrick now has the best equipment. There is a big difference in HMS pre-Gordon and now.

You need to go check your Hendrick Stats from 1984 to 1992 the 5, 17 and 25 car combined had over 30 Wins and all three cars where consitently in the top 10 in year end points. In 1991 the 17 with Rudd driving finished second in Championship points and would have Won it except for a penalty at the last race of the year. They where a Top Caliber team with drivers like Jeff Bodine, Tim Richmond, Darrel Waltrip, Ricky Rudd and Kenny Schrader long before Jeff Gordon showed up.
By the way that Almost Championship 17 team of 1991 was the foundation of the 24 team.

He won't get anywhere near 200 CUP wins - we all know that. But when Petty was winning, there was no second-tier series and they ran multiple times per week. I think it will be a remarkable achievement for Pee Wee to reach 200. I agree, it won't mean that he's tied the King, it will just mean that he's won lots of NASCAR races.

If someone got 140+ Cup wins and 60 Nationwide and truck wins, I would consider their win total to be #1. JMO

What Kyle has done at his age is amazing. I look foward to him concentrating on Cup AND truely changing.

Let me make this perfectly clear to you. You started this sheet, so cut it out or cram the keyboard threats up your tired old ass.

I'd like to make a note of this comment. I beleive it's time the moderator's have a discussion with you.

I only come on this forum for entertainment purposes listening to this kind of stuff is getting very old.

Ok so 30 wins over nine years compared to the number of wins they have complied over the past 20 years? I am not saying their equipment was crap during those days, all I am saying is there were other teams who could boast just as good equipment, unlike today when Hendrick without a doubt has the best equipment. In other words, going to work for Hendrick in 1990 isn't the same as going to work for him in 2011....

Ok first, Ricky Rudd never drove number 17, he drove number 5. At the end of 1990, Darrell Waltrip left to start his own team sponsored by Western Auto, car #17. Ricky Rudd first arrived at Hendrick in 1990 driving the #5 Levi Garrett car vacated by Geoff Bodine who left to replace Terry Labonte in the Junior Johnson #11 Budweiser Thunderbird. After the 1990 season, Levi Garrett left Hendrick & Tide moved over to Rudd's car, a sponsor he took with him he too left to start his own team in 1994. Furthermore Dale Earnhardt won the 1991 Winston Cup when he fired his engine to start the 1991 Hardee's 500 which was won by Mark Martin. All he needed to do to clinch the title was start the race, he beat Rudd for the title by about 195 points so whats this penalty your speaking of. I think you may have it confused with what happened to Mark in 1990 when he was fined 46 points at Richmond after he won the Pontiac Excitement 400. Earnhardt only beat him by 26 points, had Martin not been fined & Earnhardts tire held on at Daytona they'd have tied & Sr would've gotten the title same way Stewart beat Edwards this season, more victories...

Rudd was driving the #5 Tide car in 1991 After Waltrip left Hendricks the sponsor and alot of team members went to the 5.
In 1991 Rudd Won the roadcourse race at Sonoma. In what I think is one of NASCAR's WORST decisions they ever made Took away his Win penalizing him 5 seconds even though he took the checkered flag first because Rudd spun Davey Allison entering the Last Lap. That penalty most likely cost him the Championship over Earnhardt.

You can read about it here: http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/opinion/06/19/maumann.rrudd.dallison.sonoma.retro/index.html

Well the poll is against having the contest, in spite of the unity it has promoted here at RF.

Maybe for the best.

That was only because Davey Allison and Alan Kulwicki where no longer with us :(

Why is it that Nascar people have so many darn problems with aircraft?

I wish we could have a blind vote. Like in that show Survivor. :beerbang:

Well, after checking the current 50/50 % vote, it is profoundly clear that the people have spoken.
I hear the demands of the people, so now we have a contest.

Look for a press release that will outline the way the elimination rounds will work.

To best of my abilities a set of guidelines will be provided, to keep it fair and consistent, with a simple structure. I will explain the seedings, and the formula used to establish the order.

Let's make it a spirited contest, but above all fun and friendly.

It would be best if there were a way for people to cast votes without the ability to explain or defend those votes, or to bash another's opinion.

But I know that THAT ain't gonna happen! :D

So, take it for what it is and let's start the bashing! :owquitit:

Keep it simple. Trash talk the drivers, not your fellow posters.

Facts and statistics mean nothing to most posters...so BRING IT ON! lol

What's the point of having a poll ? The record book speaks for itself .Just turn to the 'most wins ' page and copy it .

Will have it all started by tomorrow

There will 48 driver choices

Any active driver with 10 plus wins will be included in the polls.

I think every champ is included.

Round one will have 16 polls with 3 drivers each, you can vote for only one. The polls will last for 3 days each.

Then the final 16 will be paired head to head, there is a formula that I will be using to seed them all, to prevent me from injecting my bias. I will post those details prior to starting to keep things open or clear.
