Xfinity RACE thread --- Watkins Glen

I think we want rivalries between competitive drivers.
Mayer isn’t in Gibbs league.
Mayer is definitely a worthy rival. He's in good equipment & a very good prospect. There's no way he beats Gibbs fair & square, but that's not a knock on Sam. He's a solid driver with a bright future.

It’s ok to disagree. Compare wins in the series.
Yeah, Ty is more accomplished. He also has slightly better equipment. There's a reason he's in the Cup series while Sam isn't. That doesn't mean Mayer should just let Gibbs run over him & do nothing about it.

I agree. And there’s no reason to not have respectable fan rivalries. My guy beats your guy. That’s what keeps us invested.

Yeah just run off!!! j/k! What are you playing?
The Sims. Downloaded it today on PlayStation 4 since it’s free. Just finished Life is Strange last night. So I want something relaxing to do before I jump into another story based game

Edit: seems it’s The Sims 4

Midway through the race I heard the announcers mention the name Stanton Barrett. Talk about a trip down memory lane. I can't believe he's just 50 years old.

I thought the same when I saw him in the mix at the end of yesterday's Arca race. A name I had pretty much forgotten and hadn't heard in a LONG time. I had to google to see if it was really the same guy back still racing or if one of his kids etc.

Ok. not familiar. I thought you were running Bristol or something lol

Lame finish. Track clearly wasn’t ready to go green, and the eventual winner just wheel-hops uncontrolled into the leader after blocking the guy to the pit wall and getting into him at the bottom of the esses one restart prior.

Straight drove through him. Lied and said he “wheel-hopped.”
At least be an honest man.
Gibbs has a Cup ride. Sam is the next Allgaier.
He definitely wheel-hopped though, but that’s the thing - you drive in as deep as you feel like anymore and hope the guy on the outside saves you. That’s how Larson won the Cup race last year. He was locked up into turn 1 and used the 9 to turn the car.

Just a warning if you ever get iRacing. There are a lot of people that drive every lap like they’re Kyle Larson going into turn 1 at Watkins Glen.

When a Cup regulars gets beat by an Xfinity regular, I’m happy. Usually don’t care how it’s done. Those two have history, Mayer had the opportunity to win at his rivals expense, good for him. Gibbs will probably pay it back and have more opportunities to do so.

And we all friggin love it. Don’t act like you don’t. The soap opera of NASCAR And another part that keeps us interested.

Ty is finding his way. Obviously, there have been things he has done that were wrong. However, I think he came back a new man this year. Still doesn't mean that a few might still owe him one. What was so awesome today is to hear in his post race comments that he hasn't been completely sanitized. I like it. I like the swagger....but with the way he has been driving this year--not last.

112* on my front porch.
Huh? Sam Mayer is and has been one of the top prospects.

I think he’s a dirty driver, but that’s how it’s done now.
Ty and Sam have a years long history and it is plain as the nose on your face they genuinely do not like one another.
Both are good talents and have both have made egregious moves that ended another drivers day. Had it been just Sam and Ty, it would have been okay by me. They both race clean unless someone races them dirty. Ty raced Sam dirty and Sam retaliated. Just happens Sam's retaliation involved teams with no dog in their fight. Hopefully, they both learned something from this.

Ty definitely seems to have the talent edge or gap on Mayer but we all know Ty was schooled from birth by the best and with the best. It helps. Mayer have those advantages as he came through the ranks? Even if he did come from wealth, doubt it was even close to Gibbs wealth.

And I’m not saying wealth and talented schooling and best equipment is only reason Ty is as good as he is. He definitely has the raw talent and aggression needed to be great.
