Dinger says he is going to wreck Dillion, Dick responds with a threat...

:XXROFL: That's what he's supposed to do, protect his driver and car.

They need to get knocked off the tit eventually.

Threatening to pull engine support is lame.

Someone on reddit put it best:

Bear with me on this scenario.

The final race at Homestead there are 5 laps to go. Harvick is 1.3 seconds ahead of Jimmie Johnson and pulling away. Rick Hendrick gets on the radio to Stewart saying "we supply the motors and chassis, you know what to do". Harvick suddenly pulls into the pits with a vibration, allowing Johnson to cruise to his 7th championship.

I get that everyone is stoked on the Dinger for standing up to the "rich kid", but RC's choice of words really doesn't sit well with me at all. The idea of the bigger teams holding the smaller ones hostage really frightens me.

wow...will nascar do anything about this..we all know they like to meddle

Richard Childress is and always has been protective of "ALL" of his drivers. If that had been any other owner trying to protect his car and any other driver it would be a non story.

I don't find any problems with what he said and I can't figure out how NASCAR should have any say in the matter. RCR's engines. RCR's engine deals. RCR's business. Not NASCAR. I'd tell Allmendinger to take a chill pill but he probably would. Low blow. I don't think so.

Nascar should not intervene at all, however I bet Dick has some questions to answer to some of his customers. His comment whether or not got back to JTGD is really bad for business.

From what I could tell, A.J. was way off the wall. Dillon surely expected more room on exit. When he didn't get it, he shoved A.J to get it. No reason to wreck anyone.

Mess with his driver and he'll pull their engines? Hello Mr Hendrick...

<edit> That comment has erased any remaining respect I had for Childress.

Perhaps that will be the final straw and he'll realize he needs to change. :)

AJ has no obligation to move up so another driver has "slide room." It happens to be this time it was Dillon but it shouldn't matter which driver it might be. It was racing and while AJ over-reacted he still has reason to be upset. On the other hand, Grandpa Childress was being a little dickish with his threat and a bit over protective of his grandson.

It's called running your line and not wandering in to a line you made up. I'll check the video again, but that's what it looked like.

Seems Papa wants to buy respect for his grand baby rather than letting him earn his own. I think Harvick spoke the truth about them grand kids last year.
What exactly does earning it on his own mean? Should he have started his own team? Go run for a S&P? I don't get it. The guy has won a championship in the Truck Series. A Championship in the Nationwide Series. He's sitting in the top 10 in the Cup Series. Call me crazy, or whatever else you'd like, but too me it looks like the guys doing alright.

Personally, I do whatever I can for my kids and someday my grandchildren. If I have the means to make one of their dreams come true it'll happen. Not a damn thing wrong with that.

Well Said.

not wanting to speak for dirt, but maybe to fight his own battles. I hate, not really, to use Larson as an example, but most veterans like the kid because the way he races them. I am sure Larson will have his battles, but when the time comes will he fight them on his own, or will his owner threaten the other team? Again, Dick can do whatever he wants, but he is only hurting himself and his grandson in the process.

So you're saying Richard has no right to try and protect his very expensive racing equipment. He did the same thing for Joey Coulter and his truck and several other drivers and their cars/trucks.

Did you miss the part where I said, and I quote:
Dick can do whatever he want
?

Dick has every right to do what he wants. All I am saying is his actions have consequences. How about he keeps his mouth shut, pull his driver and maybe the other team together and say to get their sh#t straight. It wasn't like AJ was the only one out there.

Protecting his equipment how? By threatening to stifle the engine program of those who criticize his grandson? Childress was not protecting anything with his comments, least of all his grandson.

It was pretty much heat of the moment stuff. But I think any kind of team orders diminishes the sport.

Dick can do anything he wants to protect his team/drivers/grand sons. That is fine. If he wants to fight AJ then so be it. However, those comments bring issues with his current and future business partners. Any one who says otherwise is an idiot. I don't think Nascar should step in, and I don't give a sh#t if Dick loses anything because of it. Just saying that if I was a business partner of his, or thinking of becoming one I'd have some questions for him over those comments.

I agree in part but you are talking about RCR equipment he says he'll tear up, so IMO Richard has every right. I think someone stated earlier that he has always stood up for his driver.

Again, Dick can do what he wants. Just don't think twice if he partners start to jump ship if he ever went through with his comments.

He has in the past and still has great sponsors. Here hold my watch.

I am not talking about sponsors. Did you even listen to the radio comments?? He was talking about pulling engines away from JTGD if Dinger retaliated against Dillon. You don't think the teams he supports would have issues with that?

Agreed. No matter what they will be RIchards priority... It's going to hurt him more than it helps.. "If he touches my grandson I won't supply motors" chicken**** comment, I bet that's all these kids heard growing up.

Sure kids, you work hard and earn it... But what about accountability? They KNOW no matter what they are in the right and will have cars forever. It's bs.

Enjoy mediocrity for the next two decades Childress. What do they say about business with friends and family?....

Yeah and how many other drivers have won championships in other divisions and have a "hands off " owner who threatens to try to pull the plug on them "buying" engines? Do they buy engines only with the stipulation that they move out of the way when his "self made" super star grandson is racing nearby. Stenhouse and Biffle have won championships in lesser divisions, do they get the same treatment on the track that Dick seems to think his grand baby should? If Dillion runs over somebody on the track he needs to learn to face the repercussions himself rather than having Grandpa getting on the radio threatening to cut off another teams engine supply if they try to seek a little justice for the same, it's called racing, but Dick seems to think by holding engines over there head he can be some kind of Pit Box mafia boss.

Nope.

His business but it's a bad business move. If Childress follows through and ends support, every other team that pays him for engine support will take notice and would definitely consider going to Hendrick or anyone else.
