This BS point system takes away from the teams that have done everything right so far this season, and gives to those that haven't, in an effort to create suspense that otherwise wouldn't have happened.
It's kinda like getting on board with margarine. If you pretend, it's really butter.

I was perplexed when I found out the 17th place car whose not even in the chase can finish 5th in points.

At that point I just gave up.

Yeah. Makes sense if you don't think about it.

There's been some confusion about this aspect of the Chase, but actually those outside the Chase can't finish higher than 17th in points, those in the Chase can finish no lower than 16th. The four guys eliminated today are all still listed with 2,000+ points while all the non-chase drivers are still in triple digits.

Good.

That other way didn't just make sense at all. Even for a Brian France. :p

I swear to God if Gordon has another season where he scores the most points all year but doesnt win the 'ship... look for me on the news.

What Ive never understood is why have this playoff format & keep the teams out of the playoffs on the track (field)? Playoffs in racing is stupid.

Yeah I duno why people were saying that driver eliminated can finish 5th in points... the drivers who werent eliminated after Dover now have 3000 points while the ones eliminated have over 2000... I assume after that it will be 4000 etc.... so when ur eliminated you really only can move up in your bracket. (16th-13th, 12th-9th etc...)

Nope. The drivers that are eliminated after the next round will fall back to the 2000 plus points scored through the first six Chase races.

nascar, the sport that says stick-and-ball is just a game, finally has a stick-and-ball playoff system.

Dover was disappointing. I was expecting it to be much wilder and more competitive up front.

Confusion caused by something the announcers got wrong a week or 2 ago.

You need to look up the definition of conspiracy theory

Well it just sounds so much like "Man, our government isn't the real government. It's just a puppet government being propped up by the Illuminati!"

Let's face facts here, honestly if we want to get down to the nuts and bolts, every championship is made up. Why? Because honestly the whole points system is arbitrary made up. When Bill France Sr. started NASCAR, he didn't really have anything to go on, so he just said "Okay, first place gets x amount of points, second place X amount of points, etc." He could have said, "Okay first place gets 500 bananas, second place gets 400 bananas, etc." and it would still be the same thing.

Before every season of racing begins, every driver is told what the rules are, and they all agree to the rules. They didn't have to, no one is forcing them to, but here we are. The Champion of 2014 will be a real Champion, just like every other Champion since 2004 when The Chase began. Including Jimmie Johnson's Six Pack.

Would there be bonus banana's for wins?

I don't care who the Homestead champion is. Wait till some random yellow flips the field and we get a champion who has limped thru the year.
