Carl Edwards retires

I don't know why it's so hard for some people to Fathom that when you're sick and tired of doing the same thing even though to all of us it's probably a dream job it's still tiring and still exhausting you're still missing a ton of time with your family and when you're only 37 and may seem weird but still young enough for he can do whatever he wants spend time with his kids and retire because he's multi-millionaire. Trust me if I was a multi-millionaire I could definitely keep myself very busy with many hobbies. This has nothing to do with TV nothing to do with illness just simply a tired man walking away on his own terms. now would I be surprised to see Carl come back in maybe two three years and do it two or three year stint...no. or come back and do TV absolutely not. but for now he's going to live his life how he wants to. I think people need to get used to drivers retiring earlier now because the demand is much more than it was 20 to 30 to 40 years ago drivers are not only drivers anymore they are spokespeople they're doing appearances they're marketing tools they are on high demand all year long it's not like it used to be. Excuse the grammar and the spelling of some words possibly this is off of voice text

I said essentially what you said earlier and it was universally ignored and I believe it is because most people think that being a Cup driver is the panacea. Wanting to do something other than drive a cup car does not compute.

Yeah I bet. I don't know what I'll do when Jr retires. I got a few others I like but gotta be sucky when it's your favorite.
Especially considering he was 37. I thought he was more likely to race to 50 than retire before 40. Wish I would have known it was his last year because I would have went to a race. I think he'll probably at least fill in at some point, hopefully.

Yeah I can see him doing another race or two at some point. Surely if any Toyota team needs a driver to fill in for someone.

I enjoyed his performance. From things he said, he is still under contract to Gibbs and must get Joe's blessing ( and maybe his sponsors) before accepting any gigs this year. Did anyone notice he got reprimanded for mentioning Subway twice?
A strong feeling ( gut feeling) that he was/is still pissed at the last caution that cost him his championship.

My brother in law said he read something online that Edwards is sitting this year out and then intends to build a team with Ford next year.
Well unless Carl lied during the presser that's not true. I heard the same thing but with Dodge not Ford. But Carl said if he raced again it would be with JGR and Toyota.

To be fair he'd say he'd ask Joe first. He knows that it's unlikely Joe would have a spot.

He has been asked about family several times now and he deflects. He has not said the word family once. That bugs me for some reason.
He's just a very private person. He always has been. He doesn't like talking about his family much.

What part of Carl rejecting Nascar for the life he wants to live are some having trouble grasping? You hear his words but don't believe him.....why?

We've got some real headcases that's for sure. People who reject factual explanations in favor of their own preferred rationales.

Carl wants to live his life. Allenbaba said it yesterday and we've now heard it from the man himself. He's tired of the grind. Ready to move on.

That's not to say that Carl couldn't come back and race someday. I wouldn't be surprised.

But this isn't some conspiracy. He isn't leaving to go to another race team. He isn't dying of some rare illness. He isn't running for the US Senate.

He is tired of racing NASCAR. Pure and simple.

Barry Sanders retired in his prime. So can Carl Edwards.

He's a good dude. He's got a huge farm, 2 kids and a wife, loves to fly. He wants to be able to enjoy that stuff while he's in the prime of his life. He's made all the money he needed to in NASCAR. He's set, and he's ready to go back to his simple Missouri life, albeit with a bit of a twist in that he's still a public figure and has enough money to buy Columbia.

I understand that Carl leaving Nascar was more surprising than Pope Benedict stepping down to some but the continued speculation, even after Carl has plainly said why he is leaving Nascar, is insulting and makes Carl out to be a liar.

IDK. Speculation at this point has nothing to say about Carl. The ones speculating..... That's another story.

I agree completely. It's disrespectful to a good man. Gotta accept the explanation we've been given.

I've always liked Edwards and will miss the guy in NASCAR. Huge loss for the sport not having him around. Huge talent behind the wheel, and class act.

That said, what's done is done. Carl won't be racing this season and I've accepted his explanation as to why, and respect him for placing other things above racing.

One thing I got from what was said by Carl and Joe is that he will be involved with JGR, just not in the car. He will also participate in mentoring the new driver.

I also got a hint that Carl may take a position with Nascar itself and if he does, I think he will be a great asset to them and the fans also.

Seems pretty hard for him. You can tell there was probably a big *sigh* on his part when he made is decision

I'd have to agree with that. On the flip side, he'll still be involved with the sport and that'll draw him back in. I bet we'll see him back racing soon, maybe doing some less intense stuff like Trucks or Xfinity. Of course, FRR has open slots on their roster if he wants to make a Cup return with Toyota....
