2017 IndyCar Stuff

IMS expecting Indy 500 attendance to easily top 2015's and will be disappointed if it doesn't crack 300,000. Corporate inventory and the Snake Pit should sell out.

ABC’s plans are still coming together, but the longtime broadcaster of the event expects to continue to find new ways to showcase the race and to focus more on the future of the series this year after focusing more on the past during last year’s 100th running.

“The 101st we’re sort of looking at as the first of this next century and, ‘What is the next step for IndyCar?’” said Kate Jackson, coordinating producer for ESPN’s Indy 500 coverage. “Any time a sporting event has occurred 100 times, you’re always going to be connected to the history. But … I think now that you’re looking at the 101st, you have a little bit more freedom to look at the future.”

Anyone ever go to the Belle Isle race? I've never been to an Indy car race but sure I would enjoy it. Just a big racing fan as a whole

@KevinWI used to come around here a lot and he's been before. Any of these street weekends have a ton of on-track activity. IndyCar, IMSA, Stadium Super Trucks, and I think they switched out PWC for Trans-Am this year. The Friday is usually free, possibly with free paddock access.

As an American fan, this would be fantastic if it became a trend. I don't see how F1 or its teams could tolerate very much of it though. Active drivers skipping a race as prestigious as Monaco to race at Indy? This is bananas.
Yeah, this is a special case because Zak Brown has an interest in Indy, especially as an American, and McLaren are in a position where they have to allow Alonso to pursue his other interests to keep him pleased considering how things are going with their F1 program right now. As long as you're actively in a Ferrari or Mercedes it won't happen.

Interesting details as to how this came together. Michael Shank Racing finally got a Honda engine lease for the 500 after winning the contract for the Acura GTD program and were going to ally with Andretti to run Stefan Wilson until Alonso and McLaren came into the picture. Stefan and his backers were asked to defer their entry to next year's race, when IMS will "add to the value of his program". MSR will now help Andretti run Jack Harvey's program next month.

Very cool deal in so many ways.

Would make for the "Warm and fuzzy" team on the grid, I mean thats if Shank has any desire in starting up an IndyCar team. IndyCar, especially with the new bodykits, has an opportunity to grow at a dramatic rate. This is some positive news, I'm loving this for the sport.

It's a shame that Shank got jobbed so badly back in 2012. I think he's still an open wheel guy at heart.

Bet money it was Massa or Hamilton. Maybe even Rosberg with interest....
I think Hamilton (and Button) said a few months ago that they weren't thinking about attempting the Indy500 because they think oval racing is too dangerous.
But Barrichello said the same a few months before it was announced that he would run the 2012 IndyCar season.

Lewis will wind up in a Cup car at some point, I think. He's mentioned the Daytona 500 but I'd rather see him run just about anywhere else.

So, basically, they will enter Indycar once they start winning races in Formula1. Good luck with that. Will never happen.
Lots of speculation they'll link up with Mercedes again at some point. Ferrari had plenty of lean years, McLaren will get it turned around eventually. It's just a matter of when.

10:47 a.m. Helmet on ! Can't wait to see his reaction.

OMG they used duct tape on a side head pad. There probably isn't a roll of duct tape
in the whole F1 paddock. They were calling it GP2 tape on the youtube comments.

on track 10:55 a.m. EST

11:30 a.m. Everything going as planned. 213mph lap fastest so far.

Andretti Autosport is getting that fat check from Mclaren.

Must be nice, but I hope to see more of this in the future with the crossover. It would have been amazing for Schumi to do this, just imagine the support behind that.

Should be interesting this last run. Going to open up the aero a bit.
Be fun to see a 23o mph, but doubt it.

I was there for Mansell. Truly amazing. I was on his radio the whole race.
