Monster Energy's status as a sponsor of NASCAR

I believe this topic was about the status of Monster Energy's sponsorship of NASCAR, not about streaming and how many channels you get with DISH and DirectTV.
Just putting that out there.

(sighs) Is it really that bad here in the offseason? Mein Gott.
If you're looking for a forum where the moderators keep the discussions on-topic, you might want to seek elsewhere, Grasshopper. It's like this IN season, if not worse.

Ouch. I'll keep that in mind.
On the other hand, you'll have a hard time finding one that's both moderated AND has an almost-informed, reasonably up-to-date membership as this one has. It's usually worth the percentage of nonsense to get to good stuff, which is usually the majority.

Should I ask about the legality of those alternative ways?

I normally listen to races on the Sirius-XM NASCAR channel, via the subscription I pay for. Either on the radio, or using their internet stream.

Once or so a year, I see a race on the TV at a bar/restaurant, hotel, etc.

Once or so a year I drag myself to a race.

And then some weekends I just miss it completely because I was doing something else when it ran.

Otherwise, there are all kinds of sources for NASCAR news and information. Including this august forum. :D

Sorry to disappoint you, I'm not using illicit streams or whatever you were imagining.

The "DVR" a Nascar Fans bestest Friend!!!! :booya: :D

No monster signs at Rolex testing. When sprint sponsored NASCAR there were sprint signs everywhere at Daytona. They had a trailer selling Daytona and NASCAR merchandise but the NASCAR merchandise had no monster logo.

Was the NASCAR merchandise strictly 'NASCAR' or was it 'Cup' merchandise? There wouldn't be any series sponsor logos (Monster, Xfinity, Camping World, K&N, etc.) on NASCAR merchandise, only on the gear from their sponsored series.

Am I the only one who sees the initials PBR and immediately thinks of a brand of beer? o_O

I spent several seconds trying to figure out what Monster and Pabst Blue Ribbon were doing in bed together. I then -assumed- the 'premier U.S. series' that was changing it's name was NASCAR Cup, and was briefly excited to see a beer brand as the series' namesake. Even after seeing the photo of the bull, it took me a while to figure out what sport was being discussed and that this announcement was only tangential to racing.

Depends on where and how you grew-up. I see both. BTW, Monster has been involved in PBR for years as a co-sponsor with Ford. They must feel they have been getting a good return on their investment to continue and expand their marketing there.

Growing up in the 50s, 60s and 70s I am with you on Pabst...but I was a Stroh's guy.

Oh, I wouldn't drink either one of them. I just have years of name recognition for the one name and almost none for the other.

@Towmater , I don't think where and how one grew up is as much of a factor as WHEN.

You're definitely not the only one. More people surely know the initials PBR as Pabst Blue Ribbon than Professional Bull Riders, and that is understood. They had a deal that made PBR the official beer of...PBR. Not sure if that is still active.

The reason bull riding has become of interest to the racing business, aside from the Monster connection, is that it is growing steadily at a time when racing is a mixed bag. I know next to nothing about it, but it is getting hard to ignore the increasing TV ratings and how desirable the demographics are. It seems that they are doing something right, and various forms of motorsports could learn a thing or two.

Now that you mention it, they have a lot in common. Like a football play, a bull ride doesn't last very long, and there's plenty of time between plays / rides for replays and talking heads. Both are well suited to the attention-deficient.

LOL......... I always thought it stood for Pabst Blue Ribbon also.......

You can learn something every day from reading this forum if you just pay attention........

I dont like drinking piss in a can either :bleh:

Additional clarification: I don't like any brand of beer. At least, I don't like any I've tried in the last 59 years, although I quit trying after the first 45 or so.
Something we agree on.

I am sure there might be one out there I might like, and some that I want to try, but I am in no rush, I rarely drink adult beverages.

I despise alcohol in any form...YUCK!!! Tried it, couldn't imagine why anyone would drink that stuff.

I have pretty much always felt the same way, mixed drinks are the ones that I can stand, as long as they are not mixed strong, I too have never cared for the taste of alcohol, so as long as I cant taste it, I am good.

I enjoy a hard cider 2 or 3 times a week. I think some of the lighter ones (under 5.0%, 140 cals or so) are tasty and thirst-quenching. That's the extent of my alcohol involvement.

Sorry, Monster, too much caffeine.

Could be where too. PBR is a very popular in many places in Asia. The Vietnam war made it popular and it has remained popular.

First sentence of Adam Stern tweet: "Monster Energy is stepping up its presence in another sport."

Sorry it wasn't clear enough that the tweet was not specifically about Cup racing.

I thought it was relevant and interesting that Monster is significantly increasing their support of another sport. Since they're simultaneously deciding if they should continue supporting Cup...a sport that has declining popularity.

Any guesses how much Monster's bill is to be associated with bull riding as compared to the rumored $20 million for Cup? It may be that even after their increased participation, their bull riding budget may be significantly less than stock car racing.

Everyone seems to miss that the sponsorship covers multiple countries, e.g., USA, Canada, Australia, and Brazil. They have been involved since 2014. Lastly, take a look at what companies partner with the PBR - Bass Pro Shops, Caterpillar, DeWalt, Stanley, Ford, Lucas Oil Products, Jack Daniels, Yeti. Any of them sound familar? Lots of cross marketing between the PBR and NASCAR.

Thanks. I've never seen bull riding, so I'm unfamiliar with the countries they visit or the other sponsor they have.

I make my own hard cider, and have been told it's very good. I seldom take more than a taste test. I have never tasted a commercial hard cider, so I can't really say how it compares. How does a man that seldom drinks, get into making hard cider? I inherited the equipment, so I had to give it a try.

Checking the tour schedule, they dont leave the USA, so maybe he can clarify, I as well do not follow the PBR either.

"So if they don't extend we'll either swallow another last-minute offer for less than what the sponsor could field a half-decent car, or run the series out of pocket and without a title sponsor in a vain attempt to avoid cheapening the brand even further."

I am surprise Coke hasn't stepped up to the plate. I am afraid that Walmart might step in and then everything will be Chinese. :sarcasm:

As a Coke fanatic, there are few things I would like to see more than Coke becoming the title sponsor, and for a company with their marketing budget, they could dump a TON of money into NASCAR without breaking a sweat.
