Once again, I'll be keeping track of the average ratings we give the races in the "Rate the Race" threads here. I'll be doing this with the same guidelines as last year:

- Races will be counted on a 1-10 scale. If your rating is less than 1, it'll be counted as a 1. If it's more than 10, it'll be counted as a 10.

- Only race ratings will be counted, ratings for the broadcast or the winner will not.

- You will have to have seen at least most of the race for the rating to count. Ratings like "I only saw the last 10 laps, but I give it a 9" won't go into the average.

- Overly convoluted ratings won't count. For example, a rating like "I give Stage 1 a 7, Stage 2 a 4, and Stage 3 a 6 except for the last 10 laps, which were a 9" won't be counted.

- Ratings will only be counted out two decimal places. So in other words, a 7.71459875257 will be a 7.71.

- The highest and lowest ratings will be dropped. This helps counter the "always a 1" or "always a 10" voters. If a race gets three 10" ratings, two of them will count toward the average

- I'm only tracking points paying races. Exhibition races like the All-Star Race or the Duels won't be part of this.

- I also had a chat with @Johali , since he's gonna do a Rate the Race thread for all the Xfinity races this year, I'm gonna track those as well.

Having said all that, here's the Daytona ratings:

Cup:

1. Daytona (2/18): 6.71

Xfinity:

1. Daytona (2/17): 7.22

I will never understand rating a race. Ever. I find it as fascinating when Martin blows away the field in Fontana or nobody can get within a second of Clint (At Martinsville!) as I do the side by side stuff to the line everybody seems to crave. How the hell does one driver/team dominate in a series designed for parity? Fascinating. Additionally, most of the time side by side to the line means many think the race was great when the rest of it could be complete ****.

Rating a race is like judging ice skating, in that there is no concrete guidelines on what to judge. Some people let where their favorite driver finishes effect their final judgement. Others judge by how close the finish for first was. Yet others judge on how big of a track the race was on. None of these are the wrong way to judge a race. The one through ten system gives more detail of how much you liked, or didn't like a particular race, as opposed to just a like, or didn't like a race. There will never be complete agreement as to if a race was good or bad, but it does let us know how entertaining it was for everyone.

Yep. And It's entertaining to see what other people think of any particular race.

Looks like we rated Dover quite a bit higher than the general population.
eh hard to say sometimes with Gluck's yes or no way of doing things. I know why Daytona 1doesn't do well around here and it's low rating is opposite of the rest of the fandom. Cowboy hat and the plate haters...double whammy :p. But most of his race ratings are pretty close to yours. I like your setup much better.
