No brand stays on top in those categories for generations. Just reality. It’s nothing but “what daddy drove so I drive it too” mentality.

Hate it for everyone that drives a Fiat Chrysler product.
 
For me, it is driver first, then manufacturer.
Truex obviously drives a Toyota, but Chevrolet is my favorite manufacturer. The other drivers I like, Jimmie and KuBu drive a Chevy and Ford, respectively. Yeah, I put the driver first.

Both are wrong. And Hendrick used his money/influence to get preferential treatment from the manufacturer way I understand it. True, he wasn’t first or last to do it but it says something about his integrity.

Eh, he embarrassed me a few times when Mark drove for him but can’t deny his work ethic and competitiveness. Built an empire on his own and was a hands on owner, still tuning his own engines race day until he lost sight in one eye from his recent plane crash.

I wouldn’t fly with him so there is that....lol.
 
Some of this is delving into subjects best fit for the podium. I don't mean to put a damper on things,
but opening up a can of political, financial, or religious worms in open forum is just not a good idea.
People have very strong feeling about such things and it can get ugly --- very quickly.

Don't misunderstand me --- I am NOT forbidding you to pursue this line. I'm only saying that it needs to be talked about in the place the owner has set aside to discuss "hot-button" topics.

BUT, if the Honda officials let it be known that giving them freebies was the way to get cars, then that amounts to extortion. There is also the point of view that to TAKE a bribe is a far bigger crime than to OFFER one.

I have to watch what I say otherwise my post will be deleted again, so I'll just say this: anyone can do about 10 minutes of research on Henry Ford and/or Rick Hendrick, and draw their own conclusions about the type of people they are. I find it laughable that anyone can badmouth Rick Hendrick's business ethics while they applaud Henry Ford's moral compass.

But you didn't live in those days and have no idea what it took to start a huge business.
If you check any of the rich back in the day you will find they were all cut throats.

That doesn't make sense on any level. One of the interesting things Ford did back in the day was to make their fasteners non SAE standard. You had to buy a Ford wrench at inflated prices to work on them. I have one of them with the old F script on them. It backfired. Can you imagine if every manufacturer had their own sizes.

I'm referring specifically to Henry Ford's personal opinions on other groups of people, the way he treated folks, and the people he associated with. I really can't say anything else without getting censored, so I'll just leave it at that.

I guess it didn't work so well for Ford and he changed things. What was his goal................... make more money.

The story of the Ford family and Ford Motor Company is truly fascinating, in my opinion it's better than any TV soap opera you could come up with because it REALLY happened. I suggest that anybody interested in cars or American history read these books: Ford, The Men and the Machine, and Wheels for the World. I would also recommend that people so inclined also read Lee Iacocca's first book, as it tells a lot of the Ford story from his perspective, although it often differs quite substantially from the version told by the first two books I listed. When you boil it down for THIS discussion, Henry Ford was a native genius, but a very flawed one, and he in MANY ways was no different then the fat cat tycoons that he so disliked and often competed against. Henry II was a fascinating character study of his own, a man with many fine qualities as well as some awful vices. Poor Edsel was the lost generation, a truly decent man steamrolled by his father, and eclipsed by his son.

Have read these...and six more. Some of the authors have their opinions weaved throughout the contentions, much like MSM does today.

Suffice to say, if it was not for Henry Ford, it would have taken much longer for the average person to have access to a motorized vehicle. And some of us probably would not have acquired the opportunity to be middle class.

No argument there. There were MANY MANY good things he was able to accomplish, and he had a pure natural instinct in so many cases that set him on the correct course for success when everyone else was sure he was wrong. He also did many fine and honorable things that are worthy of note. All I am saying is that he was an EXTREMELY complex character with many sides, and SOME of them were most unsavory. I am completely fascinated with the guy. All I am suggesting is that we look at the WHOLE picture of the man, good and bad, and keep it in the proper perspective. I also would ask the SAME consideration for Mr. Hendrick.
 
Why can't all the cars body's be the same and the manufacturer logos just be stickers? That would eliminate any possible advantages and would allow for the talent of the driver be the deciding factor. Just my 2¢

Your right, i just think the drivers talent (and to some extent the crew chiefs and pit crews talent) should be the main factor in what position the driver finishes in
 
Driver all the way,glad all the manufacturers are in that are in, but, I am a driver guy. Heck, on the road you cannot tell one from another anymore.
 
I was born in '96. I grew up as a Chevy guy because my dad was/is a gigantic Dale Sr. fan. So naturally I rooted for the Bud Chevy that Junebug drove. And when Gibbs switched to Chevy I rooted hard for Tony, and Bobby, even though he was past it. Basically I just went with Chevy guys until recently. I think manufacturers need to play a bigger role in the sport, rooting for makes has started dwindling out. It was just another rivalry that makes this sport fun
 
A single manufacturer would help racing as this year the Fords are beating everyone.

That was the game Nascar used to play until they got Toyota a championship and it was nevver fair. If chevy won this week they cut or added to the spoiler. Now all manufacturers race the car they have worked to get approved and that car stays the same. Problem is Toyota and chevy developed cars for a specific rule book and Nascrap keeps changing that.. Ford took the hit last season after Joeys win.

Manufacturers Standings are close. Harvick is beating everyone. Yet.....look at the Drivers Standings....

Driver. Cause the way I look at it, if you pull for the manufacturer you're not really a fan of said driver you pull for. A true clfan sticks with his driver no matter what they drive. I like at least one driver from all 3 manufacturers.

True. Us Brad fans had to watch Penske go from DODGE to just another Ford further making Jack rich ( richer ) with his engines.

If Kyle Busch moved to Ford I'd find a new driver real quick.

I did in 08 when the preacher switched to the ricers, but Tony let it be known he was out of there so it was only for one year. I root for Bell because he is from Oklahoma, but nothing like if he was driving for a Ford or Chevy organization/team. Lesser guys I rooted for Carl and Matt, when they went over to preacher, I didn't root for them..they should have listened to me. :p

No I'm a Kyle Busch fan but I couldn't support him if he drove for Ford. My best friend is still on the fence about Harvick driving one now. Wants to pick a new driver but Kevin is not making it easy on him.

This isn't like other team sports where you like a player cause he's on your team or whatever. If you're a fan of a driver you should be a fan of that driver no matter what he drives. Other wise you're like just pulling for them because of their car.

No I'm not pulling for him because of his car though. I'd be rooting against him if he was in a Ford.

That's almost the same thing. :XXROFL:If you like someone, you like them no matter what car they drive. I don't like Fords either, but my all time favorite driver drove a ford(Jeff Burton) I'm a Harvick fan, still cheer for him in a Ford, in fact I cheer for all of SHR cause I like the drivers and couldn't careless what was on the front of the car and all of that. That's a fan.

In your opinion maybe but I don't see it that way. I'm a fan of 1 driver and that's it, I don't have multiple drivers I root for. Just won't root for a Ford no matter who's driving though.

What? Kyle's the only driver I'm a fan of. As I said I don't have multiple drivers I like. I'm not sure how you justify not liking Ford but will pull for them. That makes no sense at all.

Cause I like the driver and don't care about the car? I wouldn't drive a Ford, but if a driver I like goes to Ford I'm not going to be like "oh well got to get a new driver now." :XXROFL:
