NASCAR to electric by 2021?

Interesting opinion. What's the connection? Wouldn't lower standards increase the rate of consumption of oil, reducing the supply more quickly? Wouldn't it also result in increased demand, driving up the price of gas?
There's more than enough oil to sustain the combustion engine for another couple of hundred years.

Very interesting about Nissan, they just pulled the factory support from the Supercar series, that should save them some money to put towards to NASCAR.

I just dont see how they could spend the money like the big 3 do in NASCAR.

NASCAR had better figure out what it wants to be before it does anything like this. At the moment, they have no clue. None. What would be the purpose? Is the suggestion that most people will be buying electric/hybrid cars in the near future? Even if the answer is yes, are those people going to connect with motorsport? Is that the purpose of motorsport? Before that happens the prices have to go down. A 35K Prius is a very expensive Corolla IMO. You have to love the idea, or hate gas prices.

Nissan is one the top automobile manufactures globally, I am having a very hard time to seeing a reason why they would not have the capital to invest in NASCAR . Raking wise for 2018 they out rank GM and FCA by a long shot, and are right under Ford in overall sales numbers, they are not some small time rinky dink car manufacture with no money to spend. I am sure then can spend the money that the big 2 and FCA does, but I could be very wrong.

How about a parallel series earlier or later in the day or week which mirrored some of the ...or all of the MENCS schedule. I could see Nissan investing in that

For some reason I cant edit....I meant electric series earlier or later.....

Boom Box on board to create 427 cubic inch ground pounding exhaust note, to over come the scream of the Chinese electric motor bearings?

I doubt it would be the same entity as cup, or even trucks or Xfinity

It would be like the nascar *tech sponsor* e-series or something

I don’t get the negativity from some of y’all. It would almost certainly be a new, separate series with no affect on the existing ones. It would compete with FE for attention more than with gas-burning NASCAR series. You could ignore it as you currently do any other form of racing you don’t enjoy.

Thing is, they seem very hesitant to commit to anything long-term. LMP1 was a disaster. Supercars lasted a few years and never got close to Ford or Holden. The GT-R GT3 program doesn't seem to be as big as it was before. I guess there's Super GT and Formula E though.

Definitely think NASCAR would have to introduce new tech if they were to join though. When they pulled out of Supercars they said they're focusing on EV and Intelligent Mobility moving forward, so...

I agree with Charlie, why so negative???? I think you people would have killed the idea of airplanes had you been around. There are so many kinds of racing, just the idea of a race
gets the blood running. Cars, planes, horses, dogs so why not electric cars. Before you jump on the "cars cost to much" band wagon just think every electrical device became cheaper as it became popular. Ford expects to focus on Trucks and SUV ( not sure if this includes Crossovers ) and I applaud them. They have finally realized they can't be everything to everyone. For all you sound buffs, they can have an all electric car going down the track
side by side with a big block race engine and you wouldn't be able to tell by the sound which is which.
Bring them on as a Cup pre-race special until they develop batteries that can race for 2 hours.

Where did you get those numbers from because from The Wall Street Journal sales reports numbers in the United States they have about the 6th best sales under GM Ford Chrysler Toyota and Honda you have to remember the money allocated for NASCAR for all these manufacturers comes from the United States branches not globally

So Ford of Canada has nothing to do with Nascar ??????????? think again.

How does Ford Motor Company of Canada have to do with financing Ford performance in America? You think Canadian profits are going to American NASCAR?

They sure as heck are. They have a manufacturing plant here but that is about all.

Doesn't anybody want pure racing anymore?

NASCAR going EV for Nissan’s sake and the cars going slower in a big ole’ blob for Jim Utter’s sake. One hell of a week. Lol

That's not what I meant. In the article somebody was saying something about it being racing entertainment, and not pure racing. (I cant tell you which one it was because I updated my browser, and now I can't read the tweets)
When I go to any event, racing, concert or theater I expect to be entertained.
What is racing if it isn't entertainment? That's why they have shows etc at the track.

Entertainment is relative. One person's entertaining racing is another's strung out parade, or another's enforced pack.

Being an old timer, I prefer the racing Pre-Brian. But each to his own. I never liked Indy or 1.5 miler tracks.

there are as many opinions to that term as there are racing fans.

I go by the ones who have skin in the game say about Pure, Real, Organic..If the fans call, the seats fill and potential sponsors want to get on board..there is your sign. The guessers say in 20 years 40% of the cars will be electric. Right now there is one charging station between Dallas and Wichtita, long way to go.

Formula E intentionally don't try to appeal to "pure racing" fans. They have a much different target demographic from most other series. In fact, their latest gimmick is inspired by - from the CEO himself - Mario Kart.

I think Brad is right and there is no end to innovation. Currently they use tuned exhaust so now they can use a sound production operated by the drivers gas pedal.
