IndyCar: ABC Supply 500

I hope like hell that Robert is okay. After Justin Wilson in 2015 and this crash today, (and Bobby and Davey Allison in the 80s and 90s in NASCAR) I have a very, very hard time with races at Pocono.

Its racing bro.

It doesn't matter what track it is, racing is extremely dangerous. We have lost many of drivers over the years and as terrible as it is. The worst thing to do is to quit it all together to be reactionary to the situation.

I'm not being an ass, I'm just trying to be realistic. Even at the lowest of karting level I was at is dangerous, it all is, but we love to do it.

I don't even know what to read into that. Doesn't matter I guess, we'll know soon. Really hope it's good news, but the looks on some of the faces are not encouraging.
 
Wickens car destroyed RHR’s roll hoop on the way over after hitting the fence. Wow.

I mean that might be true, but some of these tracks are way to damn fast for Indy Cars. It's why they stopped going to Vegas, I mean honestly the only track I'd really say keep that's fast is Indy.


But good news is he's awake and alert, so let's hope that stays good.

Vegas was due to the field being too big. There were 33 cars on the track that day and drivers were against having all of those cars in the field at Vegas. Listen to the interviews after Wheldon's death and the drivers were LIVID about all of the cars being on track.

I don't need to see them on this track though, Texas either really, the speeds are crazy fast and they are too close to each other on these configurations.

Give me more road courses, this isn't F1, the racing will still actually be entertaining.

Well, if it was the cars why did they stop going there? Maybe it was just a mix of both, all the cars and the high speeds? I mean these cars are already way faster than what they do in NASCAR, don't really need these really super fast tracks IMO. But hey we all got an opinion I guess.

Street course have exactly the same risks due to closeness of crash fencing. The fence is the issue. Wilson's death was a bit of a freak deal. But racing is dangerous. Zhit happens.

No doubt Blaze, we all have opinions.

Cars are getting faster and faster as well, its crazy, but this is why IndyCar are pushing safety forward especially with the lack of downforce in the cars this year.

No issues with the big tracks IMHO, but the schedule variation makes IndyCar great and keeps it refreshing.

They don't have exactly the same risks, at all. There hasn't been a death in Indycar/cart since 99 on a road course.
 
Just caught up....holy $hit that was a bad one. And RHR almost got decapitated...... I knocked the Halo in F1 but it’s time these cars are way too fast and driver needs protection. Been a while since I seen all the drivers shaken up after a wreck. TK looked not shaken on the outside, but everyone else looked rattled.

They all are pushing it's why its lap 8 and we haven't completed one under green.


The crews are cleared out of turn 2 fence is good to go should be going in a minute

I play collegiate golf and have won tournaments so I know the focus it takes to go out and get sh!t done and I’m a mere mortal compared to Carptener? The worst driver out there? There is a reason he only runs ovals. You must have had been watching a different race if he was trying to maintain focus in his interview.
 
Still very worried about Wickens. Something I didn’t really notice earlier but watching replays and reading discussion on r/Indycar, it’s clear that immediately after hitting the fence, his head slumped way further forward than you would normally be able to in that situation. Something seemed to break in the ****pit.

Yep, that looked really bad. I remember hearing the words "awake and alert" after Allan Simonsen's crash at Le Mans in 2013.
 
So I take the first incident is why the race re-started late?

I tuned in about 20 minutes to 5 and the race was barely 22 laps in. I figured it rained and that was why.

I really like Wickens. Guy is gonna be a winner. Couple of chances that he should've had a win by now.
