Jayski has been Twittered

Jayski has been completely useless since ESPN got involved with them. I couldn't care less who's driving the pace car, singing the national anthem or acting as the grand marshall. That site's a joke now. They used to have the best up to date NASCAR news, not now though.
The site was fine for the first few years ESPN was involved, then someone decided the site needed a make-over. That's what killed it. The overhaul sacrificed the 'bullet list' format that made it so easy to read. Now it's just a mess, stylistically modern but useless. I only go there to get practice results that include 10-lap averages.

Anybody who's anybody in the sport has got a Twitter feed these days. We once used to look forward to jayski breaking the behind the scenes Nascar news. It was the go-to place for breaking Nascar news. Now there's a direct feed to the masses virtually rendering jayski useless. It was a unique site that got straight to the point where now it's just like any other old page. I seldom find myself clicking on that bookmark anymore.

The last few years Adam Stern has been a real life Jayski...however many fond memories of my youth in the 90’s in grade school through college rushing onto Jayski to check the coming season paint schemes or driver news. I was also on that site 5 times a day in 07 when Dale Jr was changing teams, what a time.

Sometimes when I'm really looking for something, I will dig through the new Jayski's, but it is work. For my practice times, I use MRN. They almost killed it with the last make over, but there's still a few shining lights.

Personally, I have about as much use for Twitter as I do Jayski. The format is awful, even worse than Facebook. The way Twitter formats on a computer, it's like only being able to hear one side of a conversation. If it weren't for the fact that so many people disseminate information basically only on those formats, I woundn't spend five seconds on Twitter or Facebook. I despise them both.

I use TweetDeck to follow Twitter. It's a great tool if you use it properly. I have columns set up for the different subjects that I follow.

For example, I have 3 Nascar columns. The first being Media, the second Driver's and the third General Nascar. I follow specific Media outlets. As info is published, it populates that column. Same with the Drivers that I care to follow. General Nascar is just that. If something captured my eye I read it. Otherwise I ignore it.

I also follow many other sports. Each in their respective columns. All in all I have mine set up with about a dozen or so topics and find TweetDeck to be an awesome tool to get the info I want.

I like that I can get real-time information on the things that I follow. NCAA DI Track and Field is another thing that I follow. My daughter is a DI athlete competing for the Ivy League. She's a thrower..... Shotput & Discus. Using Twitter allows me to sometimes watch but all the time get real-time results when she competes. By the way, she's currently ranked 3rd in the entire NCAA DI program 3 weeks into the season. Yes, a damn proud father here. She works hard year round to compete at the top level of the sport.

Twitter can be an excellent tool for information or it can be a source of nonsense. It's all in how you use it. Without a tool like TweetDeck, it'd be useless to me.

I could never figure out how to read a conversation on Twitter either, although it's been at least three years since I last tried. Maybe I'll take another look for 2019, but I'm becoming even more paranoid about my personal information on the large-scale social sites.

Jayski vs. Twitter. That's a tough one. Fortunately, there's this place. I'm content to let others subscribe to various streams and feeds; I can wait until the info shows up here. ;)

What's a DI athlete? I know what a DI is in the military, but I'm guessing it isn't the same thing.

My biggest issue with Twitter, even bigger than the format, is how to separate the wheat from the chaff. I find there's just too much I don't care about. All I want is race stuff, not favorite books or what the kids just did.

Division One.

Colleges are DI, DII or DIII. DI is the highest ranking when it comes to ranking the athletic level of the universities. That's not to say that there aren't great athletes in DII or DIII schools. Certainly there are.

Yep, with friends that are proud also. :beerbang:

yep jayski has not been the same since they got away from the drudge report style look of the site. it has gone downhill.

I've heard of the different divisions. I've never seen them abbreviated in a post before. Maybe I would have recognized 'D1' with a numeral. I would think the abbreviation-obsessed world of social media would use D2 and D3.

Thanks, and sorry if I ever repeat the question. It isn't something I expect to see often enough to remember.

Back in the 90’s and the first part of this century Jayski was essential for me. These days I don’t find the site unique in anyway so I don’t visit often. I agree the format change was a turn off.

I think the only tweets I have seen have been on this site. At times they offer value and other times not so much.

I think the way dpk describes his Twitter use especially in relation to his daughter is smart. At some future date Twitter could become essential for me but at this point it is not. Any stats or info I need are readily available from other sources. Being the first to know something or finding out as it happens has never been hot button with me.

I love Instagram and am on it everyday as it is a great conduit for what I enjoy doing. Maybe Twitter will become that way for me in the future.

Those were fun times going to the Jayski website to check out what the new rumors or news was. I like how he broke out the same exact graphics for every holiday.

It used to be Circle Track and Winston Cup Scene and then Jayski. A lot of things were in place for many years and then replaced. The replacements get replaced even quicker!

Jayski used to be great.. now I wont use it. Most of the time their links dont even work and now that nascar.com has lap averages jayski is basically useless.

RaceTrax on foxsports.com is one of the better ones. They have practice, qualifying and final race position, ave speed, lead changes and how many cautions/laps. Almost all of last years race info is still there.

I really liked jayski as well, went to it often. Took a break from it for some reason or another.....upon returning it had changed over and I was in WTH mode.

Soon as I saw the ESPN I immediately X’d out the window and have never gone back.

Discussions are sorted with the most recently updated.at the top. Home Slice was providing information Revman and I were interested in.

Oh, and now my comments have pushed it back to the top again. :p

My print media path was MARC Times (got my fresh copy on Thursday nights at Tri-City Motor Speedway, from Dick and Pat), Circle Track and Highway, National Speed Sport News, and Area Auto Racing News.
