Rick Hendrick: "Some things are going to happen in the next 24 months" re: new schedule, OEMs

I think Stern is teasing a forthcoming article, because I can't find the full article in Sports Business Daily's site yet. This is the quote he posted:

Pretty much what I've been saying. Get through what is most likely the final year with Monster as the title sponsor, and have 2020 serve as a reset for the sport (although 24 months takes us to 2021). New sponsorship model, maybe a change in the schedule, and so on.

NASCAR GOING ELECTRIC! !!!

NASCAR TO RUN A STREET CIRCUITS LIKE FORMULA E.

FRANCE CLOSE TRACKS LEAVES 75% OF 8 BILLION ON TABLE.

Those are some strong comments to go on the record with. The next few years could turn out to be very good, or very disappointing...we shall see.

Mr. H is no dummy and he's not prone to hyperbole. So I'm glad to see his enthusiasm for the direction of the sport. And he's got actual skin in the game. That counts for a lot, IMO.
I don't know when the last time I heard a big fish in the sport say what Hendrick said. There have been some good changes in the short time Jim France took the reigns.

It's already a better year for me, going to be live ARCA races to watch for the first time. France buys out Arca and in like 6 months we get to watch a bunch of short track racing live, big shot in the arm for that series and they combine with K&N for a playoff, another new thing that has happened this year. Think it is coincidence that GMS and Jr announced yesterday they were combining and running those series this year?:D

Yep. I think better days are ahead. The racing itself is fine. I hope we see a rebound in the numbers this year.

I hope we see a rebound in the numbers too. There is good news.

I think the attendance numbers are decreasing at a slower pace so that is good news. I think more fans would like to attend races but Nascar has a lot of fans on fixed incomes and of an age where physical problems present challenges.

I guess they are throwing money from their wheelchairs as Nascar continues to make a nice profit..year after year.

NASCAR could use a new manufacture and schedule changes badly, aside from getting rid of playoffs thats their best bet to improve.
The guy that heads/owns IMSA a series that has figured out how to race multiple brands and engines office is across the hall from Nascar another series he is head of. eh probably going to be some big changes, Hendrick a multi brand dealer sure seems positive about it.

Question: In the IMSA series, how many cars does each team enter?
How many team owners are there? and what is the size of the starting field?

Nearly all IMSA teams are one or two car efforts. 47 cars started at Daytona last week. I don't think there is anybody fielding three cars currently, but there has been, at least for certain races in the past. The field will be somewhat smaller for many of the races, probably in the 30-35 range.

Spread across a dozen manufacturers.

all them thar Msay cars racing close together like that..why that is one of them Eye rock racin deals. :D Can't wait to hear all of the b.s. if something like this with more manufacturers is instituted in Nascar..well yeah I really can wait.

That is a far cry from Nascar where there are 5 teams supporting 6-8 cars each and a couple S&P teams. It looks to me like IMSA is an owner or manufacturer series open to competition where as Nascar is a sealed organization that forbids new owners or manufacturers.

I wouldn't go that far with forbidden unless you are talking about start up cost for anybody wanting to participate as in cost prohibitive. Seems to me they would have to figure a way to reduce that

How can a new manufacturer come into Nascar and start with a competitive team of at least 3 cars?? The only one close to that is RCR and they are the weakest team of them all. Maybe and its a big maybe, Penske could go back to Dodge after his contract is up with Ford but they would have to give him a great contract.

That apparently is Jim France's problem. He has figured out how to do it in IMSA and make it work successfully with manufacturers world wide.

And Ed Bennett (CEO) and Scott Atherton (President). Jim seems to get all the credit for IMSA around here - which is fine because he's probably the most recognizable name, but Ed and Scott should get the recognition they deserve as well for the more hands-on management of the series.

That said, Jim and Don Panoz orchestrated the single-biggest moment in domestic sports car racing with the merger and probably deserve the most credit of all.

if you say so, the mark of a good CEO is hiring the right people also and getting rid of the ones that don't produce.

It's a lot easier and cheaper to put together a program in IMSA, for both privateers and manufacturers.

F1 has four manufacturers and IndyCar has two, so NASCAR having three isn't out of the ordinary. IMSA's structure is vastly different from most.

If Jim France was so clever he never would have allowed his pill popping bloated little alkie nephew to ruin a series he has ownership in. That is not the hallmark of a sharp person.

I can't even make a guess but it sounds like the next couple of years are going to be interesting. Sounds good.

"Family" can be a complicated matter...

Of course, lets start vilifying the new head man and make unfounded accusations.

Jimmy and Lesa sat on their asses and let the bloated little junkie drunkard begin the ruination of a once strong entity. At best it is willful blindness (stupidity) or at worst dereliction of duty.
