The Rock has been bought

I really hope they get a Cup race back at the very best. At the very worst, Xfinity and Trucks.

Even if its lawn mower racing I'll buy tickets just to support the track.

Not sure if it's been posted on here or not, but the track is hosting the "epicenter" the first weekend of may, which is the rebirth of the carolina rebellion show that's been held in Charlotte the last few years. Originally it was held at the rock the first year they had it.

Highly doubtful I'll be able to go however I've already purchased a ticket and likely will give it away. I know my little $100 ticket wont go far in the grand scheme of things but every little bit helps.

What's the "epicenter" ?

More from the budget proposal:

Once renovated, “The Rock Speedway and Entertainment Complex,” a former NASCAR raceway and 10.5 million square foot complex, will be a world class events venue and attract additional investment and visitation to south central North Carolina. The state’s investment of $8 million to assist with needed infrastructure, including but not limited to, wastewater and water extension, a pedestrian bridge, repaving the speedway, upgrades to speedway facilities and dragway, bathrooms, and Grandstand repairs/erosion control are vital to completing this $11.45 million project. A non-state match of at least $1 for every $3 from the state is required to receive these funds. Grants are subject to grant oversight requirements, including, but not limited to, providing a project description, signing a grant agreement, and reporting on the use of funds in a form prescribed by the Department.

Holy cow if all those renovations happen, I would think they are going to make a run at having a Cup race back. That'd be so awesome if true, Id do my best to travel from Chicago to attend a Cup race there. Call me crazy but maybe they do have a shot at being on the new 2021 schedule, that gives them 2 years to get things right there.

Looking forward to a potential banked dirt track at the rock. That is the only thing I can see racing related that turns a profit unless unless there is a serious ad campaign and incentives to attend plus very affordable tickets.

It pains me to stand on my principles in this case, but I still think taxpayer money shouldn't be spent on sports venues.

I hate when taxpayers subsidize sports stadiums. So I'm not really a fan of this $8 million handout. However, Richmond County needs the economic development something awful. \

Yeah, but is this going to help the area as a whole? Besides some short term construction, what jobs does it generate? Anything beyond temporary minimum wage stuff when there's something scheduled?

Generates people in the area. I mean, I've been to Rockingham and people in that area told me the entire town just went to **** when that track closed down.

Remember what happened to Wilkes County when Bruton and the Bob Bahre shut North Wilkesboro down? Those two annual races were the life blood of their economy. Closed down a legendary bullring for New Hampshire and Texas? And then added Chicago, Homestead, Kansas, Kentucky, but could never fit Wilkesboro in a date? I'll never get over that. And along about the same time some genius thought it a good idea to move the Southern 500 to California. Someone forgot about their base of fans that always supported them.

I've never gotten my hopes up so much for a Rockingham return as I have recently. It feels different this time around. What with NASCAR's intentions to go back to their roots more in the upcoming years I think a Cup weekend by 2022 or so is well within reach.

This is the catch-22 with funding by taxpayers and tax cuts to businesses also. IF it brings jobs and revenue into he community then maybe no one cares, and is in fact willing to endorse it. I'm generally against this too but it may really benefit the community. 8 million actually seems really cheap too???

I'm excited to see the progress they can make bringing The Rock back to life. It would be awesome to have it back on the schedule after all of these years, this was one of the very few tracks I would watch as a little kid that wasn't Daytona, Talladega, or Bristol, which says a lot about how good the racing was here.

I hope that NASCAR will see the importance of this, and make it a priority for them to have it back as a Cup race, when it's ready.

Not a good picture at all as my camera didnt focus while I was driving, but....

They are locked ****ed and ready to rock for the epicenter festival this weekend. Campers lined up, 80+ HWP officers are here. Tents, vendors, everything. Does my heart good.

Not going to be able to attend the concerts but did buy a ticket and gave it away. Hopefully this gets the ball rolling well.

Was gonna work the parking lots seemed like they had to make some sizable cuts to the labor budget. I know for a fact they're going to be making mad money this weekend though.

Sorry, if it's not cars on the track, I can't work up much interest.
Few people were interested in Sam Walton's first store after it took over land for a then-defunct store. It takes time to build traction but when the traction is built, watch out. Apples to oranges comparison but the fruit (pun intended) of the meaning remains the same.

They've done everything they've said they were going to do so far, so I'm highly optimistic.

Not trying to be a Debbie downer, but, they could not make it work for nascar when nascar was in it's prime, just sayin. I wish them luck.

Key markets with top notch tracks with good parking and good roads in and out with lots of Hotels close by IE: Atlanta, Charlotte, Fontana, Michigan, Texas etc etc, can not fill stands now.

While you are correct, the tracks you listed are not well-known outside of NASCAR. The Rock now has awareness outside of racing that can attract current non-NASCAR fans.

FWIW I like what they've done to keep racing possibly viable. But we haven't seen a major touring series of any kind yet.

Will that recognition bring them back for racing? My awareness of it as a track won’t ever get me up there for a metalfest. I doubt anyone goes to a venue just because they liked the last event it hosted.
