DW to call it quits?

DW sounds better this year than he has in the last few. Looks better too. He didn't look healthy last year, JMO. Might be a good time to walk but he's like all these guys, they love it too much but there comes a time for everyone.

Jamie Mac or Bobby would be great replacements.

DW's 72. That's usually about the time broadcasters tend to step away.

I caught the tail end of his "relevant" driving career ('88-'93) so I remember him more as a broadcaster. With that said, I'll always remember being a young kid and watching him do the "Icky Shuffle" after winning the '89 500. No one can question his passion for the sport. He's definitely one of the good guys!

Honestly.. I'm going to miss "boogity boogity boogity!"
We all make of fun of him, some of us could not care less for his commentary, but you know... as you say, it won't be the same without "boogity, boogity, boogity!" Oh, and man, I hope no one else attempts to replicate his catchphrase, lmao, there's no saying it like he does. :lol2:

I hope I never here it again. I will be able to un-mute the sound when they are coming to the green then

I just started watching NASCAR 10 years ago so I only ever known him as a broadcaster..

"Boogity boogity boogity" means the start of a new NASCAR season to me.. theres no replacing that. I know a lot of people don't like him but I always have and I'm really going to miss that.

I think Jamie Mac would be a good fit, but I also wouldn’t mind a crew chief in there.

Love ya DW but thank God. Enjoy a cruise with Stevie or something.

It's up there among the best. I always liked cars that ran flags for gas, oil, car parts, etc.

I agree. We need more tool cars too. Snap-On/Bluepoint, Matco, Cornwell, etc.

I love everything about that Western Auto car. The white fading to black separated with the gray stripes, the chrome numbers, the red-orange at the bottom.....it's all so well put together. Hell, even the contingency decals are done right. Look at the layout, the decal placement is so clean looking. The decals don't cross any stripes. They run kind of parallel along next to the first gray stripe and they are all above or below the white/rorange break without any overlaps.

Yes I'm weird for noticing stuff like that lol. All in all it's just such an awesome looking paint scheme.

I really hope this is his last year, I mean, he has a good run, but its time, please, for the love of jeebus, hang up the headset DW.
Knaus hangs it up after '19 and goes in the booth. One can dream. Would make sense since he's frequently on Racehub
So much this right here, I really like TV Chad, and I am really looking forward to the day that he goes full time with NASCAR TV , and I think once he is free from HMS, we are going to get a treasure trove of info that he just cant really share while being a CC( not talking about HMS proprietary stuff) .

I like DW. I never liked him in the booth. Happy retirement DW.
This. I've always hated 'Boogity', he favors some drivers, and he's too quick to jump to conclusions that the replays eventually show to be wrong. He hasn't been in the seat in almost 20 years and at least three different 'generations' of cars. I like him personally, out of the booth, and even during P & Q, but once the anthem is sung I have little use for his broadcasting style.

I hope his replacement is a crew chief. I like Craven, McMurray, and Labonte, but one recent driver in the booth is enough. How long has it been since Bobby sat in a Cup car? At least 10 years. Get someone from the other side of pit wall, please.

DW has some goof moments, but he’s been a great part of the race team. Brings the southern accent and historical perspective to the broadcast, great storyteller. Agree he seems better this season than the previous couple when he was trying to find chemistry with Jeff.

I would suggest Dale Jarrett as a replacement. He’s done it before, has a voice tone that would be distinctive in the mix, and does a great job as a former driver well connected with the team’s.

Same here. I remember his first "boogity" and thought that was the most childish thing I ever heard at the beginning of a race after following it since the early 80's on TNN/ESPN. Couldn't believe it when he did it again the 2nd race. Now nearly 20 years later he's still doing it. Like you, I always mute the TV just before they hit the green flag.

I have never been a big fan of "Jaws" in the booth, but as someone else said, he seems a lot better this year. Maybe mellowing in his old age. After putting up with hyper-active chatterboxes Steve LeTarte and Jeff Burton, Waltrip is much more tolerable.

I'm one of the few here who likes dw in the booth, but at 72, it's probably time. Many people lose there filter as they age and he's probably about ready to start calling it as he sees it!
I'm guessing that whoever his replacement is , they'll just be a place holder till harvick hangs up his helmet.

Dale Jarrett please. He's awesome.

Once Harvick is ready to retire, I think he will be fantastic in the booth. The first time I heard him call an Xfinity race, I was blown away by how good he was. He's a natural.

Harvick is calling the Xfinity race right now and doing great. So calm and informative. Not hyperventilating like Mikey or Burton.
