Who has won with the most car numbers?

A lot was made of Kurt winning now with nine different crew chiefs. Got me to thinking about how many different cars he has driven (97, 2, 22, 51, 78, 51, 1) and has won in five (97, 2, 22, 41, 1) of them.

I know no active drivers have taken so many numbers to victory lane but wondered if he holds the all-time distinction as well.

Good info. Well before my time. What I do know is it's been expensive over the years buying all new gear every time Kurt got fired / switched cars.

I always got attached to the car scheme/number. It was a ton easier years ago to get behind drivers. Cause they’d be racing the same car ‘most’ of the season.

I don’t sense much attachment to some of the teams today. With so many sponsors sharing the season, it’s ‘lost’ something that fans use to have. Just my thought there

Yep. If I recall correctly, the first special promo paint scheme was Earnhardts 95 Winston Silver Special Monte Carlo. It was a one off to honor RJ Reynolds 25 years as the series sponsor. After that it seems the flood gates opened for everybody. I miss the days of one paint scheme for the season. It ain't coming back.
 
Among active drivers Kurt has won with the most different car numbers at 5, Bowyer and Truex have each won with 4 different numbers (07,14,15,and 33 for Bowyer; 1,19,56,and 78 for Truex).

Can't imagine anyone having more than 10.
 
Tim Flock won in a car with 3 numbers...301. That is the most I can find. :) Buck Baker won in car number 500B, you could make an argument for 4 digits and he would be tied with Speedy Thompson in car 300C.
 
Bobby Allison was going to be my guess as soon as I saw the topic title.
 
You have to wonder if and Bobby and Junior Johnson had found a way to get along, if those three consecutive championships (or more) that Cale got wouldn't have gone to Bobby instead. Even though he won races, those years driving for Penske and Bud Moore were kind of "lost years" when Bobby was probably in his prime.

Junior johnson himself said if he could, or would have kept Bobby, they would have won more races than the Pettys. Junior, Bobby , Herb Nab with Coca Cola money could have been a lethal combination. It didn't work out, but those three guys are much respected and definitely winners.

According to the interwebs Bobby won 5 times in the 28 for Rainer Racing in the Tuf Lon Monte Carlo. One of the wins was the ‘81 race at Riverside.

OOPs, I not only missed that one when I typed the original post, I looked at it several times since then and didn't catch my mistake. Shame on me! The car started the year with the Tuf-Lon sponsorship, but I'm not sure the money ever came through, because the car quickly transitioned to Hardees. If you search You Tube, you can find a somewhat funny commercial Bobby did for Hardees, where he runs into a couple of dufus local short track guys at the local Hardees and they don't realize who they are talking to. In typical Bobby fashion, he had five primary sponsors and three car owners over a four year period, 1980-1983).

I missed something too and your comment about sponsors cleared it up.

He only won one race in ‘81 for Tuf-Lon, the Riverside race which was the first race that year.

After that, his next win in May at Talladega was for ‘The 5 Racers’. Then later in May he was driving for Hardee’s when he won at Charlotte.

Believe in one year Bobby won with three different car numbers in three different makes...Chevy, Ford, and Dodge.

I would take some of those numbers from before 1965 with a grain of salt, because many drivers drove for different teams over the course of a year, as some teams and some drivers did not go to all the races, and in the case of Buck Baker, by my count in 1956, drove under as many as six car numbers for SAME owner. That's not quite the same as what guys like Allison, Pearson or Rudd did.

that is picking the fly specks out of the pepper and changing the topic. The original post says:

I'm just pointing out that there is a pretty big difference between driving basically the SAME car for the SAME owner in the SAME season with different car numbers and winning over several seasons with 11 different car owners. Statistics are nice. Statistics with context are better.

In fact, the second scenario is / was much more difficult.

Well for one it’s only listing teams they won with.... Newman hasn’t won in the 6 car yet...

Jones also isn’t even on here as he only has 1 win. You went to far down if you saw Jones. That was something totally different at the bottom.
