College Football 2019

Man it looks ugly in Columbus right now. If it looks bad on TV I can only imagine what it’s like in person.

Weird day in the Big XII. Now Baylor has sole possession of first place and is a game and a half up on third place.

<<<scurries to see Baylor and the Golden Gophers unbeaten. 5 unbeatens at the top. SMU will get the UCF treatment.

Oregon has good SOS rest of the way but they probably need 1 of the top 5 to lose twice and Oklahoma to lose again, plus style points.

Bama and Clem are blasting people. What a log jam for the top 4 spots. This is really shaping up.

I am confused why the AAC doesn't deserve a guaranteed NY6 bowl game. I realize they usually get the G5 best of NY6 ranking, but it is a better league than the MWC and definitely better than the MAC, Sun Belt, C-USA.

I would love to see App State run the table though, they're a legitimate college football team no matter what conference or division they are in.

I think it'll be hard for either Oregon or Utah to get in with one loss. It's pretty stacked at the top right now and I don't think they'll get the benefit of the doubt against 1-loss teams from the SEC, Big Ten, or Big 12. Oregon stands the better chance with the loss being a last-second one to Auburn though. If Clemson manages a loss to Wake Forest, SC, or in the ACCCG I think Oregon would have the edge over them because Clemson's SOS is just embarassing but it's hard to see that happening.

It won't change until all of the contracts between the conferences, bowls, and ESPN expire at the end of 2026 unfortunately. I get why we (putting my USF fan hat on here) lost the auto bid when the Big East collapsed because it was only the three Big East leftovers joining a bunch of C-USA teams, but I think it's evident the conference is only getting stronger each year. The AAC West is ranked ahead of both ACC divisions in Bill Connelly's SP+ ratings and the conference as a whole would be ranked higher than the ACC if UConn were removed from the formula, which bodes well with them going independent next year.

If the AAC ever adds a school to replace UConn, even if for football-only, App State would be a great addition. If they can beat SC in a few weeks and the AAC beats itself up they should be in the driver's seat for the NY6 bid.

Agreed. Utah seems even worse to me. I'd be shocked if Oregon got in over a 1 loss Clemson. They're going to need some teams to fall flat on their face imo. As it stands, Bama Clem tOSU PennSt LSU Oklahoma I think are eye test better teams than them.

Still unbelievable from last week.

BIG games for Georgia, Florida, Oregon, Utah today

Been on dvr for most of the day... Not looking good for Utah or Oregon so far...

Committee is going to have their handsful with 1 loss teams if that's how it goes down.

I’m almost certain the committee will find a way to get two SEC teams in the playoff again. I’m hoping the LSU-Alabama game is a blowout regardless of the winner, although I’d rather it be LSU that does the blowing out as I’m a little sick of Alabama. If it’s close I’d say it’s almost guaranteed that the loser of that game goes to the playoff too.

As it should be. Really think it should be 1. Bama- LSU winner 2. Loser of bama lsu 3. Georgia 4. South Carolina

Bama better not lose at home with their SOS either. I still think Bama is the best team fwiw, until they prove to me otherwise.

We know for sure 2 of those top 4 will have 1 loss by the time it's over. College football is beautiful.

Lol I can't take college football serious enough when the defending champs are undefeated and not in the top 4. That's just me.

Also the SEC may be great, but they have such a cupcake OOC schedule for many of their teams. Duke, Southern Miss, Western Carolina, New Mexico State? Lol.

Its coming down to money. Alabama vs. Clemson every year is causing boredom and no one cares about it anymore.

Ranking Bama at #3 ensures they will be out of the top four with a loss. If they were ranked #1 and LSU #2, they both would be there at the end of the year.

Its pretty simple, the playoffs need to be expanded. I've always had a problem with how they declare a champion, the current system is a step in the right direction.

I went to one of those cupcakes you mentioned (Western) and they are hands down a cupcake, theyre in the FCS and they play those games for money. They're a horrible football team even in the FCS, its embarrassing how bad they are. My wife went to one of the others you mentioned (Southern Miss), id argue they arent a cupcake as they have beaten SEC teams in the past. They aren't what they used to be now though.

Honestly, if you're not in one of the power 5 conferences, I don't understand why you'd play in FBS. I get it, its money, but you have zero chance of winning a championship at that level. Central Florida is a perfect example of that, they went 12-0 two years in a row and didnt get a shot at the championship. It's a joke.

I agree that it’s hard to bet against Bama until proven otherwise. I’m really high on Ohio State too though, although this early in the standings I think they tend to lean more towards deserve and that’s why Bama is behind both. At the end of the season it will probably shift a bit though. I don’t think Bama necessarily deserved to be in in 2017 but they were the best team.

Clemson is getting the same treatment 2014 Florida State got. If you win ugly or play a poor schedule it’s very hard to be rewarded in this system. At least Alabama hasn’t had someone like UNC a two-point conversion away from beating them. Penn State nearly lost to Pitt but at least they’ve also beaten Iowa on true road and Michigan.

I don’t think the committee has the gall to rank a 12-1 Oregon or Oklahoma ahead of Clemson should it come down to that but it’s an interesting scenario to think about. Otherwise if you are going strictly off of record you’re essentially punishing Oregon for traveling to play Auburn rather than playing A&M, which is the exact opposite of what the system was intended to do.
