Race Manipulation for the Back of the Field

I don't get why anybody would conspire to be the highest running non-chartered team. "Hey, look at us, we're first of the worst!"

"Scott Eggleston, the competition director of Premium Motorsports keyed the radio and said, ?You got a power steering problem there, Peter??
Crew chief Peter Sospenzo, sounding surprised at the revelation that his No. 15 car has a mechanical issue at first, then seemed to start playing along.
?Uh yeah, we could ? yeah, yeah. I mean, let me know.?
Well, that's an odd radio transmission. Why would Eggleston be letting Sospenzo know if there was a steering issue?
Less than four laps later, the odd steering box conversation continued.
Eggleston asked, ?You got a steering box ready to go, Peter??
Sospenzo replied, ?Yep. Yep.?
Eggleston then asked Nemechek if he has steering box issues, to which Nemechek replied ?Say that again??
Instead of asking the question again, Eggleston told Nemechek, ?Steering box issues, need to bring it to the garage. Bring it to the garage, steering box issues. He's got steering box issues.?
Nemechek radioed back, ?10-4,? and promptly pulled his No. 15 machine behind the wall and was done for the night. Chastain moved up to 37th as a result."

"While the Nemechek in-car conversation was strange and seemed full of coded speak, a few laps later things get even more bizarre, as Spire Motorsports tried to tell their driver Reed Sorenson for several laps to go behind the wall, but it appears Sorenson ignored his crew for several laps.
At lap 243, Sorenson’s spotter Joe Campbell said, “Smoke is starting to get really bad. Bring it in.”
*Note: For what it’s worth, I have been unable to spot any indication that NASCAR had posted the team for smoke trailing from their car or that they had even warned them about it. I also at the time of this post, have yet to see anyone from the track that night Tweet that the No. 77 car had any smoke trailing from it.
Regardless, smoke or no smoke, Sorenson still fails to respond and keeps clicking off laps. The competition director of this team, Scott Eggleston — yes the same exact competition director for Premium Motorsports — keys the microphone and said, “What are we doing here?”
Sorenson’s crew chief Tommy Baldwin Jr. responded, “You’ve told him four ****** times, five times now.”
Finally, Sorenson reacted by saying, “What do you want me to do? Come in this lap?”
Eggleston instructed, “Pit this time. Pit this time.”
Sorenson asked whether he is going to the pit stall? Baldwin briefly answers for Sorenson to bring the car to his pit stall, before being overruled by Eggleston, who yells, “Garage!”
Sorenson pulled into the garage and is also done for the night. This odd exchange moved Chastain up to 36th in the running order.
Then, with 15 laps remaining, Josh Bilicki pulled the No. 52 Rick Ware Racing machine into the garage area and was done for the night. This moved Chastain to 35th and gave the No. 27 the much coveted last point he needs to secure a points victory over the No. 96 team."

I'm glad NASCAR has decided to penalize the teams. And after driving backmarker cars for a decade, Reed Sorenson still wants to run every lap he can.

I posted about this 2 days ago, and it was deleted! The posting was a detailed account of how it all went down.

Here is what was deleted.

"Be original. Make up your own mind. Post in your own words. This is not a copy pasta restaurant.

If you're commenting on an article you read in the news, quote your sources clearly by including a link and using the QUOTE tags. Do not copy and paste a large part of an article, as this would be considered unauthorized reprinting (copyright infringement). Quote enough to give your comment the context it needs, and refer the reader to the original article. *THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE* "

I did not see any source cited when I removed the post.

I wouldn't say Gaunt Brothers Racing is the first of the worst, if we're talking non-chartered teams. The 96 is more than capable of some at least SOME competence on the track.

I could make a tinfoil case for KDB winning. What are the odds of Truex's and Hamlin's pit crew making stupid mistakes in the same race, a title race at that?

Holy Joe sending a message to Cole -- that Joe owns Pearn's pit crew, without limits.

Well they did that last year and gave the win to Joey.

And those "stupid mistakes" were inconceivable. :)

I don't ever remember a car getting the tire sides switched. It's pretty rare to get too much tape on the grill, sometimes they will run a little hot, but not like a steam engine. That was a big miss, not even close to a little too much tape. It was a 100% blow up or pit case

Yeah and I believe there was a pretty harsh rule about that back in the day. Now that Goodyear is in the rock making business I don't think it applies anymore, it's not a performance enhancer

I think it's still pretty much against the rules, but I think you would only be penalized if you had the softer lefts on both sides of the car, and probably only then if you finished the race that way. As for precedent, The Blue Max team accidentally reversed the tires in the second segment of the 1989 Winston. That's where Rusty, who had dominated the first segment, dropped back and Darrell got the idea he had the best car. When they fixed Rusty's car, he ran down Darrell like he was tied to a post and I think he actually spun Darrell because he misjudged the closing rate off turn four. Darrell was all butt hurt, but Rusty would have passed him by turn one anyway.

I am looking for the video of Coach switching the tires moments before the carrier went over the wall. Masterful.

You guys are awesome. Wasn't the narrative after Kyle "let Denny win" in Phoenix that the championship was set up for Denny? That didn't work out, so we go to this. Awesome how Cole played along with his disappointment on the box, and Gabehart's interview after the race must have taken a lot of rehearsal.

Kyle's team has a history of going into other's pits. The preacher will take up for them when they do, they are the chosen ones. :D

Of course. Could you please refer to Kyle Busch as "The Champion"?

Does butthurt actually hurt or is it more like a bad rash?

Does Boudreaux's Butt Paste still have a presence in NASCAR?

Other than the obvious one, of course.

Here's you champion fan boy's, the vid is compiled by Nascar of all things. Eh if that is all ya have to work with ya do what ya have to do. Personally I have never seen a champion driver in any racing series reach the level of jackassery as this guy. Nascar even threw in some older jackasseries for good measure. :D
