2021 Silly Season

I'm not saying that Brad won't go to the 48, but part of me still wonders if there's still any bad feelings left from when Brad was pushed aside by HMS to keep Mark in the car. At that time Penske gave him an opportunity

MAYBE they have patched things up now, but for the LONGEST time, Brad seemed pretty darn butt-hurt about the whole deal, and was pretty snarky about it or pretty much anything else that had to do with HMS. Also given the fact that I would think he would have a certain sense of loyalty to Roger, I just can't see him going to the 48. Of course I could be all wrong.

I just can't see Larson in the #48. It just doesn't seem like a good fit for him in any way.

Thats a prestigious ride and Rick wants to keep it upfront. I dont see him putting someone without a proven track record in it. Larson said he would be interested.

I don't care who the driver is I'd think they're foolish if they're at least not interested in it

That interest has to go both ways.
All I was trying to say was if HMS calls you up you'd be foolish not to listen to what they have to say. Weather or not you take the offer

I got ya. I just dont think thats a very long list right now. I'd be willing to bet they have a target and maybe 2 alternates.

We're back to the question of whether Hendrick would tolerate Larson's extracurricular activities. Again, he didn't with Kahne. I don't see Larson sacrificing dirt to get in the #48.
I'm sure they could come to an agreement if Hendrick really wants to put him in that seat.

I dont know why hendrick would want larson. hes over rated and i can not understand why every body loves him so much. Larson barely ever wins and hes no rookie any more so whats the excuse.

It doesnt matter because larson doesnt want to go to hendrick anyway. He wont compromise his dirt racing and he seems loyal to ganassi

Brad K has no reason to leave penske and he seems like he doesnt like hendrick. So who are we left with. Eric jones. Thats your answer it will be jones in #48 next year

Exactly Kurt Busch does better in Ganassi equipment

I agree

Kurt busch is the only other guy i can see going to hendrick if its not jones

Kurt busch is a way better driver then larson and it isnt even close at all

The only question is will hendrick want kurt busch at this point in his career. maybe maybe not. Kurt may not be a good fit there. Jones will be

Didn't Kurt just sign a multiple year contract with CGR? You think they wouldn't put someone else in the car for a year while he finishes out his contract with CGR

Jones isnt doing anything just like suarez didnt do anything and bell wont either. Gibbs cars make anyone look good in xfinity, even no name drivers are way up near the front in those cars. (April 5, 2019)

Jones ended up doing something in winning the Southern 500 and making the "Playoffs" -- and got another year in the main house.

So, the great part of watching this play out over the next 9 months is that the process tends to be interactive, and the best we can do is speculate.

Now enjoy what might be considered the unofficial start of the 2021 Silly Season with the Blaney announcement. :D

You must know something that those in the industry dont. You wont find one that says hes overrated.

Well, how many people (including myself) thought Kasey Kahne was the second coming, and how did THAT turn out? The 24 was a prestige ride too, and it ended up in the hands of two rookies, one after the other.

I think if you can say that after this year of finally having a competitive car you might be on to something, but I myself think another year is needed. Many weeks Larson was either the top Chevy or the second fastest.

Brad Keselowski denies retirement rumors, discusses contract renewal

https://www.jayski.com/2020/03/07/b...retirement-rumors-discusses-contract-renewal/

Interesting quotes from above....

“Honestly, I haven’t worked on it but I’m really happy for Ryan that he got his deal done,” Keselowski said. “I understand that probably puts a lot more eyes on me. … So I’m really happy for him, but I haven’t talked to anyone or gone through any of those steps. I’m sure it’ll be coming up soon. I want to race and be in contention to win for a long time. I think I’ve got a pretty good car right now and that’s certainly not always easy to come by. There’s also a lot of really good rides out there, too, so we’ll see how it goes.”

With Jimmie Johnson retiring at the end of the season, there has been speculation that Keselowski could be a favorite to replace Johnson at Hendrick Motorsports next season. Asked if he expects to talk to other teams, Keselowski said, “I’m not dialing out, but if someone dials in, I will certainly listen, for sure.”

I don't know if you can read much into this, it could just be BS to gain leverage in his talks with Penske, but he certainly doesn't seem like he's a lock to stay there.

The way I read it is at face value. If he was concerned about his job at Penske, seems like he would be trying to find out if he had a job there next year. Instead he has been hanging with the family, working with his new team, and BTW if somebody calls offering him a job (for a heck of a lot more money and somehow a better car?) he would consider it, but he isn't looking.

'Prestigious' doesn't always remain 'competitive'. The #3 or the #43 could be described as 'prestigious'.

Boy, that's a lot of posts generated out of one guy re-upping with his existing ride.

Here's how I see the 2021 Cup Silly Season playing out

48 -Brad Keselowski
14 - Kyle Larson
10 - Chase Briscoe
2 - Ryan Blaney
12- Matt Dibenedetto
21 - Austin Cindric
42 - Ross Chastain

Jones to the 48, Keselowski to the 14. DiBenedetto and Blaney stay put

Bowyer's auditions are going well. But I don't know which Team he will join -- Fox or NBCSN.

The longer this shutdown drags on you would have to wonder how it effects Silly Season. Some sponsors might not have the money to put into a race team. Drivers, owners, teams and sponsors haven't had much time to how things are going this year to see if they want to renew.

I would think we'll see a lot more deals put together very late in the season and even in the off season compared to other years

Will 7-Time reconsider?

I know it's been a while, but I'm starting to think SHR letting Suarez go was a mistake. Sure, he didn't set the world on fire, but he did finish 17th in the points standings with some decent runs. It certainly wasn't a bad first season @ SHR.

The play should've been to replace Bowyer with Custer & leave Suarez in the #41. I think Daniel is better than people give him credit for.

you could be right, but Custer is in his first year and Suarez had 3 full years. Custer has a total of only 7 races. Too soon to tell IMO. Comparing Boyer's record to Suarez, Suarez could only dream of doing that well.

Suarez could only dream of doing that well.
The other factor is that Bowyer is at the end of his career and he is not a magnet to sponsors. Without the #4 team SHR is not a top team and their prospects are poor.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Suarez back @ SHR, this time replacing Clint Bowyer in the #14. I think Suarez still has some upside. Clint shouldn't have a top tier ride @ this point in his career imo.
