Might be two weeks out but may as well get this up and going

The Sunday race will be the first Darlington cup race in the day since 2004 (Not counting the rain-delayed race in 2007)
The Wednesday race will be the first mid-week race since god knows when
Even though the iRaces have been fun, I’m ready to see cars back on the real track

So stoked - sure hope nothing mucks it up.

side note* watching the inaugural Brickyard on FS1 for the first time since race day. What a race!

I think that they stopped midweek races (except for a few rain makeups) back in the early 1970s - when R.J. Reynolds became NASCAR's sponsor. It was part of their new marketing strategy.

Jesus, that's when my parents were born...

Near as I can tell, the last scheduled non-weekend race (besides races scheduled on holidays) was in 1971, the last year before the number of races was reduced from 48 per year to 31 (in 1972).

A race at Columbia Speedway in Cayce, South Carolina was held on Friday, August 27, 1971.

It was preceded by a race at Talladega the previous Sunday and followed by a race the following Saturday, August 28th, at Hickory Speedway in Hickory, South Carolina.

Two races in a week (and sometimes three) wasn't uncommon in those days.

Hey @pjmolo that’s Hickory North Carolina! My home track. My first NASCAR race was there in the summer of 1970 where I saw my hero Bobby Issac win. Bobby was from Catawba N.C. We had one famous person from Catawba County, and he (Ned Jarrett) lived in my hometown, but he had retired. I was 11 years old and loved racing. My dad had died unexpectedly that spring, and it was a tough time. My uncle took me to that race, and it was a thrill to see the cars and drivers in brilliant living color that I only saw in photos. We listened to the race broadcasts on the radio whenever possible. I did that for many years.

i have a story about Darlington I will share as we get closer to this race. It was the site of my first big speedway race. Everyone may be surprised who took me to that race.

No I wish I could. Lived in SW Florida for the last 7 years and 14 years in Missouri before that. I haven’t been back to Hickory Speedway in a very l o n g time. Sounds like a great event...will look it up!

Other than cars on track...I can't wait to hear Mike Joy. I'm sure he'll open the broadcast with something eloquent, somber, and uplifting. If you're under 25ish (and can't remember a pre-9/11 world) this is a generation-defining event. With NASCAR re-opening the sports world, millions will be tuned in, and he...and only he...can make what will be "the sports call heard around America".

I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see Ford bury everyone here. They’ve looked real fast this season, and especially Penske will probably unload fast. Brad K has to be the favorite

If the Fords are fast, maybe Matt DiBenedetto can get himself a win. Would suck for him to get his first win in front of no crowd, but damn I bet he'd still be happy. I know I would be.

Is NASCAR uploading that race to their YouTube Channel? If So thats pretty damn awesome. I love that track, Im sad I'll never get to see a race from there, thankful for YouTube though I've watched many races from there. I have been a fan of all the Wilkesboro Nostalgia this week, if I ever go to a race in Charlotte I will try to drive by that track.

GoFas getting ready, Capt Ron was talking about the track schedule that he got, and then said the track map he is hearing for garage stalls 1-20, its going to be every other stall, and 21-40 are going to be being truck( haulers)( parking in the RV lot is what is sounds like) if you want to hear that sweet sweet sound, the engine gets fired up at the 2:40 mark

Maybe they will come up with a fake crowd goes wild track. It's been working for years with comedies that aren't that funny.

Actually, VegasInsider.com lists Harvick as their favorite. I've seen predictions that teams will push the limits of the rules... on the theory that inspections at this one-day show might be less rigorous than normal. So maybe VegasInsider is betting on Rodney Childers having come up with... something... over the long shut down period..:idunno:

Wow at Byron 50/1 and Kenseth less than half that out of the gate.

Truex and Hamlin seem like bargain of the top names. Both are good at Darlington.

I've got a gut feeling we see the 48 back in victory lane.

Rodney is usually complaining about not being able to see his family because of Nascar's *cough* grueling schedule.

Kills me that they aren’t allowing limited fans in Darlington. Would be there ASAP

Same. For the first race back with fans I will have to check the logistics of going, wherever that may be.

Keeping an eye on Daytona August prices. NYC-Daytona beach roundtrip air is under $100, hotels walking-distance from the track are under $100, and ticket prices are under $100.

I really think Atlanta will have limited fans. Georgia seems to absolutely give zero f**ks about this virus. Wouldn’t be shocked to see fans allowed

It's almost race week. Thank God.

I have been up since 4.00 am this morning doing rigorous testing of all of the equipment I will be using on race day next Sunday and will do daily tests through out this whole week leading up to the return of NASCAR Racing. So far the recliner is working awesome, the tv checked out perfect, the refrigerator is stalked and keeping a 34 deg temp at all times. I even broiled a couple of test cheeseburgers for breakfast and they were perfect. I'm doing everything in my power to make sure there are no glitches on race day. Now it's time for a...:dpepsi:
