Chase Elliott

I dont know about owes one.. but he would have been smart to at least seem slightly regretful. He's not as good at driving aggressively as Joey is and I won't be surprised when this bites him in the ass.. the only difference is Joey knows how to do it so that he'll still finish ahead of the other guy. Something Chase obviously hasn't figured out yet.

Either that or he was actually dumb enough to think that move had any other outcome.

Here's the deal with the Joey and Chasey thing....Joey no longer gives a **** about what people think--that's Champion stuff....Chasey thinks what he thinks his fans think. Chasey pulled what KB gets **** for---ironically, KB pulled a Chasey in Darlington. I am not sure who owes who anymore because all these guys do is talk ****, and nothing ever happens.

He’s a JGR fan. He can’t comprehend that a driver can be “likable” to fans. Being a petulant a-hole isn’t a requirement to succeed in this sport.

My driver is likable to me. What the hell else matters? Kyle Busch Championships: 2......Chasey: 0

Tell Hamlin that Chase doesn't know how to be aggressive and still finish ahead @SlicedBread22...

Oh yeah, Chasey showed him. Such a big deal made out of that. This is what has Chasey blaming a cut tire. He wanted to be that big ball guy for his fans. I doubt that is who he is....but he did it anyway. I think the bow after he beat Kyle in the Truck race is who he is....I think that was a fair, friendly jab. I don't think he wanted his fans to be disappointed because he ****** Bristol up...so he made **** up. The hard working, hard trying, Bill's kid, Dawsonville Pool Hall, blah, blah, blah bull**** is the Claire B. Lang "Chasing History" dog**** narrative. He also isn't the flip a driver off kind of guy. Let the kid become who he wants to become. I believe that he is a huge star in this sport, but I despise what the fans "need" him to be just as much as those fans who despise Kyle for what he is.

Race you how you race me.

That line means nothing. If it did, and you believe the bull**** you hear around here, Kyle Busch could not make a lap without being wrecked. Why doesn't that happen?

You've put a lot of thought into this I can tell.

All of the things you listed are literally what we call "progression". Chase isn't TRYING to be anything, he's going out and racing and acting and reacting according to whatever comes at him. The biggest example of progression I could give you would be Kurt. And the best example of the complete opposite of progression I could give you would be Mr. "Wahhh, I don't have any money for my charity now".

Oh wait, yes I do because Mr. phony I don't know what I want to be tossed me some sympathy cash. What a guy.

Toyota's are phoning it in this year. KDB's move that wrecked Chase was a move of desperation. Chase's move was to win the race.

You’ve actually done it. I’m broken. I’m pulling for KyBu to win a race for your mental health. I’m genuinely concerned for you.

Welcome to Rowdy Nation!

Of course. I think it's a step you didn't call them Yoters. Therapy is working. Stay with it.

Whatevs on Chase..."....progression...." Got it. Outstanding. I agree with you on the charity deal. 100%. I think it is complete bull**** to compete with charity on the line anyway. Poor taste. Like, if this dude wins, then these disenfranchised people, get this, but these over here don't. Didn't like what Kyle said one bit.

You should thank Nascar for giving them the Bondo can back

Could have saved the time by just letting them build a new car....but that would be bad with all of the cost reduction stuff going on....Wait.

Looks like the Yoters will need more Bondo to catch the Fords and Elliott in his Chevy.

I'll let the pool room say it

Whatever you think of Logano, THIS is why it matters that Chase kind of blew him off after the wreck. If that situation was handled a little more tactfully, maybe the Homestead deal doesn't happen. I STILL think Hamlin was going to win the race either way.

Elliott couldn't dive down to the bottom to pass and Hamlin had him blocked up top. Really wasn't intentional like Logano getting in the way, it was the fastest way around the track hugging the wall. Logano just gave Chase a wake up call. Those two should be good to watch from here on out.

Thats pretty arrogant.

Denny had a better car and caught Chase from 2+ seconds back, was going to pass him anyway, and Chase walled it trying to push and went to far. Joey didn’t cost Chase anything. How far back was Joey in the closing laps?
Yeah I know. That's why I said I'd bet Joey still doesn't think things are "even". Though they really are. I did enjoy Chase throwing shade and just referring to him as lapped traffic tho lol.

I realize you tend to give up pretty easy just by how many times you are ready to throw the towel in because of rain or lightning delays on race day. Maybe Chase still couldn't have beat him or maybe Chase could have kept the heat on enough to cause Denny to make a mistake. None of us will ever know if Chase could have won or not...but I bet he sure would liked to have had the chance to keep trying. You look at it as no big deal but I look at it as Chases actions in Bristol may have cost the #9 team a win. Hopefully this will be a lesson learned and next time he will be a little more apologetic if he walls someone. It's hard enough to win in NASCAR but it's even harder racing with enemies...Especially at the next track where everyone is looking for drafting partners.:)

This is a fairly close comparison to Mayfield moving Dale out the way to win at Pocono.

Did they ever have a history or previous run-ins? Nah. But Jeremy knew that Dale had a history and would do the same to him in that position. Similarly, Logano has a history of driving in too deep for the lead at the end and washing up the track taking both the leader and himself out. Chase just raced Joey how he’s raced everyone else.

Dale gave Jeremy the middle finger and Joey stole Chase’s line. Yet Joey had an awful day and Chase still finished P2 with stage points to boot. It’s not a loss.

Chase got beat. Denny had the best car all night. Logano cost him nothing, but gave him a great excuse.

That's because he has fallen in love with his popularity. Who wouldn't? We saw that in Martinsville when he couldn't hold onto Denny's bump, and started waving his arms at the crowd. That self deprecating stuff was a PR move. Claire B fell in love with him...."He tries so hard...." (Tear). Once he tasted some success, the crowd started cheering....he became entitled. When Chase loses, it is just so awful...Drivers who are up front get screwed out of wins all of the time. OUR Champion could have had 10 wins last year, but we don't lament his loses--we celebrate, right? Chasey on the other hand.....He just tries so hard....and he is such a good boy.....just the way his Daddy raised him. Barf.
It's the fan base, and ironically, a lot of Kyle fans have a same sort of attitude towards their guy..

I prefer this Chase. I think it's more authentic and in a way, more human. He's dropped the cooperate persona, and let me tell you..Chase drives hard. He uses his bumper as much as anyone. Chase isn't the good ol boy. He's a young talented driver who has become aggressive, firey, a bit entitled and quite confident. He's got some spice now. Hes comfortable in his role and I think it gives him a bigger personalty. He's still quiet, but there's more of a fire there now.

Taking out the obvious jabs towards the fandom, I think you are pretty spot on with you takes on Chase.

I just don't think they are bad qualities. He just isn't what he's advertised as, and that's okay.

I have noticed earlier in the season the 9 car was not unloading fast and Chase was doing a good job of being patient while getting it dialed in, but the past few races they seem to unloading with pretty good speed. Which crew chief do you think is better the 9 or 88 crew chief?

One of the crew chiefs, I think it was Chad was saying that after the break were using older cars they built off season because they weren't able to work on any new cars because of the virus. He said they were still learning and improving on the new body. He said the other teams with their older bodies have had a couple of years to tweak on them and they had a lot of data they could go by when they started back. That could be the reason they are unloading faster as they get more data they are improving.

Gustafson by a country mile.

Gustafson by a country mile.

If for no other reason than pure experience, Gustafson, but despite the occasional head scratching strategy call, I've ALWAYS been a big on Gustafson. I've been a little lukewarm on Ives, but I think he has done a good job with that 88 bunch and will only improve.

Gustafson was fast with Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and has had his best career consistency with Chase Elliott. Dude is a genius when it comes to unloading with speed and usually does a great job of adjusting the car for the driver. He’s had his off moments when it comes to set ups, but in recent years he’s been on fire.

Greg Ives was solid in the Xfinity series and won a championship with Chase. Although he’s not done much of note ever since moving up to Cup. He’s done some good homework this season so far. As an engineer he’s brilliant. As a crew chief he is still trying to find his comfort zone.

I find it humorous that two guys that quite clearly do not care for Chase at all are in here telling us their professional opinions of what and who Chase really is as if we've got some sort of skewed opinion of him. Gold.

It must be starting to set it that he's actually becoming one of the best in the sport and they no likey.

I was just going to post something similar. They can't post the whole "hasn't won, overrated, yada yada" that they did before. He won 3 races a year in a time when the Chevy was absolute dog s___. Now he's a threat every week, and they're lashing out. I find it funny. The most vocal of the bunch is nowhere to be found in race threads, only posting when it's safe afterwards and things went HIS way.

Young gun arrives and starts kicking everyone’s ass. Veterans and fans dislike it.

Music to my ears.

I think Gustafson is a little better also. Ives brought some pretty fast race cars right off the truck earlier in the season but lately he seems to be struggling to hit the setup. A few races ago I was thinking damn I would like to see Bowman in the 9 car once just to see how he would do and then it wasn't to long after that Andy posted that he would like to see Chase in the 88 car once. I think over all they are both really good crew chiefs and Chase and Alex are very good drivers that will only improve, plus they are very good role models. You add all that together and that is a win win for HMS and Chevy...and the reason they are my 2 favorite drivers. :punkrocke
