Not a hate crime....

You have an internal investigation and you don't release a statement until you know what it actually was and you especially don't release a statement like they did proclaiming what they thought it was when they really had no idea.

It's really not that difficult, especially for people who are paid very well to run a professional organization.
Your living in a fantacy world if you think they could keep people from talking in this day and time..maybe before social media that would work, but not now.

What crossed the line for me is when #BubbaSmollett became a top trending hashtag and meme across social media.

I don't watch "The View", but you'll have to fill me in on what he said to the gals that could compare to what has been said about him with regularity.

Twitter is a loud minority of people. You had people using that hash tag that never even watch racing once a year let alone on a regular basis.

It was mainly NASCAR workers and track workers at the track but hey if you wanna excuse NASCAR for doing a piss poor job about this situation that's all you. We aren't going to agree.

1) The noose was there LAST FALL when there WERE hundreds in the garage area, and almost nobody noticed it or thought enough about it do something about it or at least SAY something about it. Heck, it MAY have been there a lot longer than THAT.

2) SOMEBODY opened that garage up when the cars were unloaded last weekend. NASCAR official, track employee, team crewman? Whoever opened that door would have been completely blind to not see the pull rope, yet NOBODY said a word. Must not have been have even crossed their mind that there might be a problem.

3) If I see a noose hanging conspicuously serving no valid purpose, yeah I would DEFINITELY think there was some sort of problem. If I see a noose hiding in a corner serving an actual function, I don't think ANYTHING about it., in fact I probably marvel at someones rope tying ability, because I suck at it. I have to look at drawings to do most of the fancy knots.

4) There are people in this world who are hung up on reading some hidden meaning into every little thing that is said and done. I find those people positively exhausting.

Yep SOMEBODY opened up the door who were crewman for an African American named Bubba Wallace and saw a NOOSE, reported it to their boss who reported it to nascar, they checked the building and it was the only NOOSE and it was hanging in the 43's stall.

Bubba benefited from Nascar's Drive 4 Diversity program did he not?

He used his blackness to his advantage didn't he?

That is a privilege that I aren't afforded solely on the basis of my skin color.

Then he accuses Nascar and it's fans of a "despicable act of racism and hatred....."

And yet you wonder why the indignation from some fans.

I have a problem with him going on tv and preaching to people about how nobody gets it. BTW, according to him in that interview, the FBI investigation was still going on.

You tell them they aren't allowed to talk or post about it until the investigation is over. They work for NASCAR, they have the power to keep things under wraps if they chose to do so. It's really nowhere near as difficult as you're making it out to be.

and I think you are minimizing it

Bubba Wallace was informed by the president of NASCAR that someone intentionally left a noose in his car's garage stall. This is how it was characterized to him by NASCAR's chief executive.

He called NASCAR his family.

Why would any NASCAR fan interpret that the "despicable act of racism and hatred" was in reference to them?

I know, but you apparently can't say around here. Taking it personal is the first clue.

Have you heard what espn is saying about all of you? You pay extra for that sports package too.

Are we to conclude from your remarks here that in New Zealand, caucasians are a disadvantaged minority?

Does Jacinda Ardern know about this? Have you thought about forming a protest group?

Context matters. If someone hangs a noose from a tree in someone's front yard, that's clearly a hate crime. Just like if it had been hanging in the 43 garage stall over his car, that also would've clearly been a hate time. But if it looks like a noose but is being used for some purpose such as a tow rope, sports fishing, or maybe a garage door pull loop, then it's pretty innocuous.

So somebody leaks out what is going on, what's Nascar going to do fire them? Damn good way to get your pants sued off and oh the publicity. Some of you guys aren't thinking this thru

I'm a little worried about bubba. I think he suffers from some depression and I'm afraid all this attention may have a negative effect on him. I don't like some of what I heard he said on the major msm outlets after knowing it wasn't directed at him. But I still hope nothing but the best for him. I can't imagine what it's like to be caught up in the social hurricane he finds himself in. I hope he can find success on the track and put this behind him.

I'd like to respond but my post was deleted. It doesn't exist.

Stop, just stop it. There is no room here for logic.:) Somewhere there is probably a crew member just shaking his head knowing during idle time last fall he tied a knot to pass the time.

That's the definite downside of being famous, as everyone knows. Anything you say or do is a much bigger deal than it'd be if you were an average person like all of us.

I am right there with you on this. We know Bubba has had a difficult time dealing with what life has thrown his way in the past. I can't possibly understand what he is now going through.

Bubba does seem kinda pissed that he wont be the center of attention anymore

I also find it outrageous that his “family” fed him a made up story without him seeing or knowing anything about the situation and allowed him to believe that there was someone in the garage out to get him and making serious threats.

Idiots on social media posting repulsive things about him? Celebrities deal with that often and he decided to put his face at the front of NASCAR’s unity message so he understands the social media backlash.

But someone in the garage, that may travel with him on a weekly basis? That’s terrifying. To make him believe such a story before the conclusion of the investigation is heartwrenching.

I am so glad that Bubba does not have to think twice about looking behind his back while walking through his place of work.

Is it possible that some rouge Republican redneck tied a noose in a rope a year or more ago out of boredom or showing off or maybe even hoping a minority would see it? Yes. It is possible.

Is it possible that it is just a knot? I would say that is also possible.

The question is, which one is possible versus which one is probable?

The answer to that is entirely based on your political perspective.

Well, I'm surely not a supporter of the Republican party, but I don't think it was that first one.

The second one yeah, that seems what it is. But I can also see why someone who saw it could've gotten the wrong idea with everything going on right now.

Misunderstandings happen.

Well - I have plenty of opinions on this, so I guess I will throw my uneducated two cents into the party.

First off, I feel the confederate flag has as much right to be at the track as someone wearing a BLM shirt, a MAGA hat, etc. Either regulate them all, or none of them. This is why I was so agitated with NASCAR's stance at Atlanta. The extent of NASCAR's view point should have started and ended with ALL minority employees in the garage. Unless something was really off, they should have simply been mute. Know your demographic. This would be the on par as an NBA star coming out with his support for Donald Trump. While not necessarily wrong, it is against the views of the target audience. Whatever. That's just purely my opinion. Every politician, activist, celebrity, etc. that says something, with a reasoning of bringing "unity", brings "divisiveness" every single time.

As for this past week, there is plenty of blame to go around. NASCAR and the original crew member initiated it, by failing to use common sense. I personally think NASCAR wanted this to blow up, just so they could pat themselves on the back for bringing awareness to racial discrimination. It backfired, because they came out so strong and had so much media support for something that was literally nothing.

As for Bubba, he has intentionally made himself a target these past few weeks, but he was innocent on the initial findings from the weekend. Where he messed up was going on all media and doubling down and basically playing the victim card. I am not sure who his PR guy is, but good Lord, get him off social media and away from television. He already struggles with mental health, this is adding fuel to the fire.

By the way, I think the confederate flag crew, the BLM crew or any other group of people lobbying for political or selfish interests in sports are all idiots.

During the CNN interview with the rope, they ran a recorded telephone interview with Steve Phelps.

Mr. Phelps said he ordered an audit of all overhead doors in Cup garages at every track on NASCAR’s schedule. Of the 1,684 doors inspected, including those in the Talladega garage, 11 were found to have a length of rope attached at the bottom. None of the remaining 10 had a loop or a handle tied into the bottom of the rope.

Make of that what you will.

Had that loop appeared only AFTER it was known that the #43 car would be in that stall, I would be willing to make something of it. Since that's not the case, I make nothing of it. Perhaps this door is out of adjustment and is hard to pull down. Who knows?
