2021 Silly Season

Love Clint as an announcer but the dude can still drive. Why would you leave if you’re still a Top 10-12 driver?

I like Clint too, but it doesn't sound like it would be up to him to leave the 14. If he's not able to land a ride equal to that (and I don't think that he is), then I can't foresee him sticking around to log laps in worse equipment than he currently has. There's a lot of talent about to be available with long-term potential.

If I could put up with an addictive carcinogen sponsoring the Cup series, I can tolerate drivers' personal opinions. I care far more how they drive on the track than what they say off it.
For what it is, I mean coming out of the RCR stable could be a good thing. Bubba is having a career year and I think he's getting the most out of what he's given. To think, he should have more than five top tens in a mediocre car is not bad.

Even though he has been outspoken, his driving is doing a lot of the talking now as well.

He’s good for a top 15 finish any given weekend. Enough to get some air time for his sponsors. Enough to make the playoffs. Enough to stay halfway relevant due to his personality. His days of consistently threatening for a win are long gone. He’s a sponsor wheel holder.

Clint has taken any ride he could get his whole career. SHR is the best ride he has had but IMO he has shown he is not the caliber of driver you can build on. SHR would be better off searching for the type of driver who can replace Harvick in a couple years.
Larson is not that driver.

Larson is not that driver? Don't know about that one. But there's a sure load of talent that can hold the wheel as good if not better than Bowyer long-term... Briscoe, Larson, Jones etc.

IMO, one risk as far as long term stability with Larson is that even though he is relatively young, he could and likely will retire at a younger age than some/most in order to race dirt, even after taking this year off from cup (albeit not voluntarily).

I had to laugh at this. While my comment was referring to the opinions of all drivers, Bubba wasn't the first one who came to mind. Or the second. Or even the third.

Depending on the price tag, I would say that Jones should be #1. With proper coaching
by Tony, I think this lad could be a top 5 driver.
Sorry to say this but like Joey, I think JGR is a very bad place for any young talent. I feel sad to see Bell be the next victim.

Tony rarely shows up at the track any more or even the shop. Not much coaching going on.

I still think Jones ends up in the #48 and Wallace ends up in the #42. If the SHR lineup being the same is true, I guess Larson will have another year on dirt. One a side note, Jones posted a question on Twitter today asking which type of racing you prefer, asphalt or dirt. Don't know if that means anything or not.

Bob Pockrass seems to think Hamlin is trying to buy Germain and that Bubba may be going there. Apparently nascar has clarified the rules about 4 teams that make this possibly.

Daniel Suarez is a free agent after 2020. Don’t forget to put his name in the hat for a solid ride.

some drivers even with multi year contracts must be a bit nervous knowing Daniel is on the market.

I like the concept of new ownership in the sport, but not really under these circumstances. Unless it's a non Toyota team I feel it will be just a 5th JGR car.

The way Toyota runs it all the technology is funneled thru JGR. Look at KBM thats the Toyota/JGR truck team. I guess I don't know the internal workings at KBM but from past info it seems all technical knowledge is passed to KBM thru JGR.

Imo if the car and team is competitive and makes for more parity in the sport, why not?

You are probably right about Larson being on dirt for another year but if he is going to come back I hope it is either with SHR or HMS.

I am curious why you think he gets a shot at another solid ride? Does he bring sponsorship? He has had a shot at 2 top level teams and I personally cannot think of a reason another top tier team would want him.

To be fair, Suarez wasn't given a fair shake @ SHR. He had a very solid season, barely missed the playoffs. The only reason he lost that ride was because Custer was waiting in the wings. If that wasn't the case, he'd still be in the #41 today.

I think Suarez would perform well if given another chance @ a quality ride.

Let's be honest he lost his ride because the money dried up. Which in all reality was the only reason he was there in the 1st place.

He's about as nice of a guy that has come along, but the money behind him got him those seats at SHR and JGR

JGR Xfinity and KDB trucks use JGR engines, they are to supplied like they are in cup.

And Clint is the sponsor holder.

Wow that would be a heck of sale for Mr. H to get chevy to buy back in after dropping him a few months ago

If it really is him in the 48 with all the available talent already in the Cup series, then I'm floored. It's also a foreboding sign for the trajectory of HMS.
I'm not. Rick now has lost the only two consistent championship drivers he's ever had. It makes total sense that HMS is in a complete rebuild spearheaded by Elliot

Pockrass is now saying larsen is the top choice for jimmie's ride
That would be awesome and it would complete my lineup for 2021. But I'm not going to get to excited until the the papers are signed and the official announcement has been made. :)
