2021 Silly Season

Yeah, the Jr. and Jr. show never really worked, at DEI or HMS. Dale Jr. was never quite the same once Tony Sr. quite being his crew chief. I know this won't sit well with those that love to loath him as a TV analyst, but Dale gives Steve Letarte TONS of credit for salvaging his faltering career and being the first crew chief in his life to truly hold his feet to the fire and make him do what was expected of him to help the team improve. The days of Jr. sitting in the bus playing video games and wandering into the garage area five minutes AFTER practice had started ended the day Steve climbed onto the 88 box.
Yes. You got to give Letarte that.

Yep. Steve was the closest thing to a crew chief since Tony Sr.

Tony Jr was nothing special at all. The 8 had an underrated season in 2006 and that was about it. The wheels totally fell off partially because the cars were absolute trash once Tony prepared them in late 2008-early 2009.

I definitely remember watching all of this at the time as a life long Dale Jr fan (well before he got to cup). I remember noticing a huge difference nearly as soon as Sr left as his crew chief and for years wishing he would come back.
I never knew for sure why Eury Sr left, but I do believe Jr was at his absolute best with him and would have been a champion had hesitated, and I agree that he was never the same.

Also I just noticed the typo/autocorrect there, I meant for it to read that I believe Jr would have been champion had Eury Sr stayed.

So nothing to base this on but on Door Bumper Clear they were talking about Toyota and when listing the Gibbs Xfinity drivers they said Daniel Hemric

I saw that in a racing-reference comment section last week.
Most likely would be less races than he had with JRM this season but landing a part-time JGR ride after such a bad season would be great for Hemric.

The difference is the other drivers at JRM actually get results. Honestly, how many of the competitive Xfinity drivers AREN'T bringing money to secure the ride? Even Briscoe had to go out and get a deal done to even race this year. Annett is a convenient target, and nobody would like him out of that ride than I do, but if you look at it objectively, he isn't doing anything most of the other guys aren't doing. It's the nature of the beast. There aren't that many teams sitting around with funding in place just waiting for some hot shoe to climb in. Not on a full time basis anyway. I look at Annett as the loss leader that probably helps keep the good JRM cars on the track with the dollars he brings in. Economy of scale you know.

It's pretty much chicken feed for Pilot/Flying J to sponsor Annett. Pretty sure Jr and Hendrick have Pilot/Flying J cards for truck fueling..probably maintenance also.

I'm sure it's chicken feed to Pilot/Flying J, but I'm sure it's not chicken feed to JRM. I wouldn't be shocked if it were the most lucrative sponsorship they have.

I wonder if Ty Dillon & Corey Lajoie are headed to Spire Motorsports or if Ty will be headed back to Xfinity? They’re supposed to be being more competitive in 2020, getting some Hendrick equipment along with RCR/Hendrick working together might make some sense for Ty to be in the 77.

Sounds like we need to throw Brett Moffitts name in here for some series. Most likely Xfinity?

He's performed so well in the 02 for Our Motorsports, I don't see why he doesn't move to that car full-time next season.

Just sponsorship will be an issue for the team, hopefully Brett could keep Destiny Homes and such with him next season to move up the chain.

I think this grain of salt is large enough for us all to share.

This answers a few questions for me

Edsiel Ford has the last word at the end of the day.

Should have figured Tony tried to eek Larson into the fold. At the same time, I'm glad Custer and Briscoe have been promoted from within. I just hope they both work out long-term for SHR as they need that next face of the organization. Harvick isn't getting any younger and after this season, I wonder how much he has left in the tank.

You'd have to wonder what Ford has had against Larson for the last couple years? I mean I could understand not wanting to touch it now, but before that?

I think I will like the way it turns out as long as Briscoe runs as hard as he ran in Xfinity. SHR is a one driver team, Almirola hasn't ran that hard since he broke his back, but with Smithfield floating his boat, all is well there. Custer is still green as a gourd and Briscoe is a question mark. Harvick's bunch finished the season on a down note. It's hard to operate at the level they have for as long as they have and keep coming up short.

Assuming Edsel Ford was actually the stumbling block, I would think given his own family's history, he would be more open to a redemption story. For those that don't know, Edsel's father and great grandfather both had a complicated history regarding race, religion and ethnicity, and there are more than a few demons in the Ford family closet that they have had to overcome, some more successfully than others. Whether missing out on Larson was a mistake remains to be seen, but I think this is a good time to remind everyone that our new champion was there for the taking, and they whiffed on that one too.

Nothing like social media for shooting your mouth off when you don't know what you're talking about.
we've had 4 years of that, what is one more :idunno: I had a mental block about s&h. I keep reading that as shipping and handling. Seems like if young einstein is clacking around on a cell phone SHR is a hell of a lot easier for readers to understand and to hunt and peck.

The future is here. Chase winning the title is good for NASCAR, but it hardly moves the needle. But it's a necessary piece.

I feel that for NASCAR to take off, we need the following to happen, in terms of drivers.

Chase needs to continue to succeed. (He's a Champion, so that's always there).

Chase needs a foil. Gragson is the next villain of nascar and him getting a good ride, and becoming a cup title thread would be HUGE for nascar. Don't sleep on this. Gragson's personality may be the future of the sport.

Briscoe is cut from the same cloth as Chase..without the last name.

Larson's redemption story.

Bubba winning races.

I think these 5 drivers are the future of NASCAR.

Kind of a re-peat on the Jeff Gordon Deal
