Cup Championship RACE thread --- Phoenix

The race I watched they didn't bother to say any cars that were in the mix. They just showed time and again the racing order of the 4. Example: Brad was shown in 4th place of the four and yet he lost many positions in the pits and raced his way back to the front.
MIA ? missing in action? How come he passed Joey for second place and was faster the Chase at the end?
Not to be "that guy" but... because Joey burnt his stuff up trying to hold Chase off, and then Chase had an almost 4 second lead and Eddie was telling him on the radio to be conservative? There's an in-car recording with spotter audio of the last few laps on youtube and you can hear just how early Chase is lifting at each corner.

That said, it would have been quite a nailbiter to have had a caution and given Brad a shot at the 9.

Unless there was a piece of debris the size of a car hood the tin foil hats would be flying around here if they had dropped a yellow.

I do think you made a good point about the possibility of ‘playing troll’... They sometimes have taken the ‘opposite narrative’ which gains a lot of steam from social media and then I’ve noticed they take a hard stance against it the next week on their show. It could be to troll and get the fans stirred up. I’ve caught that a couple times.

I have no idea if that is accurate in this case, because I seldom listen to their show, but I DESPISE people that pull stunts like that. Say what you mean, mean what you say. If you have to purposely stir people up to get a response from them, then what you have to say probably isn't very interesting or valuable.

I think thats a good way of treating situations.

I generally like their discussions, just every now and then it feels like someone throws an agenda out there they want someone inside the garage to hear. But there’s no way I can prove that, just the way i hear them sometimes.

Bret is the one, I usually like to ‘Pass’ on. He has a bunch of hot takes that are odd at times haha

I still want to check out the new show and see what they get into

I don't see much difference to what happens around here. They are just as opiniated and biased as anybody.

I don't have a problem with ANYONE having an opinion, as long as they genuinely believe what they are saying.

We're not official representatives of a sport or teams involved, but yes. You are 100% right.
I think part of it is who is paying their check. An independent team isn't Nascar. Who knows, their views could be brown nosing their boss's or sponsors take on things but overall like here, the way some see the racing and the way I saw it are what makes it interesting. Like I can't believe the ratings for the race considering Chase won it around here. I'm betting Jeff Gluck's survey reaching a much larger audience will be much higher partly because of the Chase factor.

I don't want to mischaracterize what he said, so listen for yourself (if for no other reason than to enjoy the salt) and see if it was malicious. There may have been some inside joking there in that, making the podcast, THEY WORK FOR JR.

they seemed pretty salty. They can easily just argue “ahh not what we meant” to a bunch of stuff... they give him some credit for fast car, then a minute later they kinda make a sarcastic dig at it

Im hoping to catch this episode a little later. Guess TJ might be a bit upset they got beat?

Normally TJ and Freddie seem to be the most rational guys on the show each week. I’m not surprised to read that quote from Bret... he likes to say a lot of hot takes like the one you quoted... then one has to remember he spots for a guy that spun out on purpose to manipulate the infamous Richmond race. And he’s still very sensitive over that, acts like it was no big deal.

I do think they should be careful using their platform(DBC) to insinuate such ideas though. It’s one thing for us fans to go back and fourth over, but I’m a little surprised to hear that they step on those areas in the new episode

Looks like to me Chase just opened a can of kick ass on the other 3 opponents.

I would have liked to see the other drivers on the track race harder, thats the only issue I have from the race... but make no mistake Chase flat brung it at Phoenix

You know they arent racing hard when Newman lets Chase drive right by him without any fight at all.

speaking of passing. After Elliott has just about passed everyone on the track in the first stage from last up to about 5th, Burton pops off and says that Chase will have to learn the top lane. This B.S. of Burton's might work for a kid racing go karts, but c'mon this is cup racing. Elliot had just finished passing some of the best race car drivers in the world...learn the top lane?

Bummer. Ratings down. Even with Chase.

not that much of a surprise. It's freaking hard to listen to for me no matter how good the racing is..they just talk more if that is even possible, louder, and with more nonsense when it is a good race

You know what's funny?

Chase Eliot's Championship isn't what it would have been 6 years ago. And it would have been.

He would have won it under EVERY Chase Format. (Harv was like 4-6th in most of them). And he wouldn't have Rick Allen, the playoffs, and the other gerbils calling it.

Then he would have been on ESPN, Good Morning America, Tonight Show... absolute rock star. Now? He'll have to settle for Redneck Jesus 2.0 with a Cup. And, frankly, I think he's ok with that.

Really? So noted.

Not sure what your point is, but it is a fact that some people, especially some in the media throw out "hot takes" just to stir up reaction and draw attention to themselves. It's also true that some people say things for the sole purpose of getting under someone else's skin. I have no time or tolerance for either.

Oh I agree, but there is a ton of this kind of crap here. I have been accused of such BS more times than I can count even though I have openly admitted time and again that I have to be one of the most biased fanbois on the face of the planet. Yet, I still have opinions that I believe in.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink.

Yeah, well, that is pretty much what a message board is, right? There are some here who misinterpret their opinions as statements of fact. Those stink more IMO.

I guess that's why I've never had a problem with you. We often don't agree, but I know where you are coming from and I think you know where I am coming from. I love that you are passionate about "your" team. That's what fandom is all about, and what makes it fun to banter about. I feel the same way about "my" team, and I have strong opinions about them, but I'll NEVER BS you or anyone else about them. I call it the way I see it, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I've been to a Hooters maybe five times in my life, and the one in Fort Wayne closed several years ago, but every time I DID go, my waitress was totally smoking hot. It's almost like they had been hand picked to match my taste in women. :) For the record, I'll take the one on the left.......

Fair enough. Thank you.

DBC is glorious this week. TJ is SALTY about Chase and keeps dropping insinuations that it was fixed. Freddie Kraft said "when we saw he failed tech we said 'oh crap' because we knew they came loaded for bear." Brett responded "yep, channeling our buddy Cole Pearn and the putting 3 obvious illegal things to get caught so the other 6 get by."

Just to close the loop on this, I listened to the whole episode, and honestly, I didn't here ANYTHING that bothered me.

I keep seeing DBC posted here but don't know what that is. Can someone tell me?
