Logo on plate racing - when will it stop

Classy response in his interview. Doubt NASCAR thinks so but he didn’t blame the players, he blamed the game and he’s correct....

Oh, and how many hands does Joey have? Lol....

I’m curious to see what the Next Gen cars do on plate tracks. Especially so since they haven’t done any pack running and part of the change is to reduce the number of cars in your fleet.

Cars getting hit while sideways at those speeds will often take flight.

I wonder if the rear diffuser and hood vents will have any effect on drafting at the superspeedways.

My issue with this is that they put an effort into making these cars stay down when they turn but then they put a giant spoiler on them and here's what we get.
Happens with smaller spoilers too. It just seems more often than not that when this car gets hit from the side, it lifts and nothing can keep them settled.

I honestly thought that he was joking when he said this....and I thought the joke was distasteful....then I realized he was serious. The way he drives on these tracks? He knows the answer to his own question. I have Hamlin better than him at super speedways, and honestly, Denny doesn't drive like that IMO.

um.... did you watch yesterday?

But in all seriousness, I also noted the irony in his (Logano's) crocodile tears given his actions on plate tracks.

He is still under contract to drive for the win at every race. I think he is 100% right, there is no reason to race cars under those conditions unless your part of the Guts and Glory crowd who haven't the guts to try it themselves.

But you have to drive that way. NASCAR puts them in a box with the aero package and out of bounds rules and so on.

NASCAR has done a lot for driver safety but these two tracks always push the envelope.

The thing is...blowovers and flips are MUCH safer than contact with the wall. Plus most wrecks at these tracks are in big packs, so a lot of energy is usually dissipated before wall contact is made. It has always bothered me how these tracks get a bad rap for being unsafe when in reality there are more than a handful of other much more dangerous tracks on the schedule. The only legitimate danger regarding Dega and Tona is a car getting into the fence, but that can happen at any track if the stars align.

Why does nobody talk about the pit walls at Indy, Pocono, and other tracks? What about the inside backstretch walls at intermediate tracks? The outside wall gates and "safer" barriers at some tracks? Retaining walls at road courses? Etc, etc. Instead, all I hear is "the big one will kill someone" when that is actually unlikely compared to something bad happening elsewhere.

I think one of the most dangerous spots on most tracks are at the beginning of the pit lane entrance... and there is not a lot you can do to make it much safer. Here was one scary crash Kevin Cogan had in the Indy 500. Thank god he didn't hit the end of the wall first and he was able to walk away from this crash.

granted he did flip and we don't want that

The car didn't start lifting until he hit the apex at the bottom of the track, this allowed more air under the car

my guess is, had the car not crossed the apex it would not have flipped

the technology works as intended.........until

Any time a car gets sideways and another car t-bones it in the side at a higher rate of speed, the car is going to flip or at least rollover. I've seen it on 1/4-mile dirt tracks. Not much can be done about that. But they can lessen the chances of those if they can figure out a way of eliminating pack racing.

The clip of bubbas in car is already making the social media rounds.

It seems a lot of fans like the danger dega brings.

Until fans vote En mass with their wallets this is what NASCAR will do.

It’s not just fans. NASCAR used Newman’s Daytona wreck for promotional purposes. They don’t care.

They're safe until you get hit in the roof like Newman did and Joey came close to. Also these cars are not designed to come back onto the ground....see Aric Almirola's back injury at Kansas a few years back. Last weekend a 17yo kid in a modified got in the air at Stafford and had to go to the hospital as he hurt his back on the landing. These cars are designed to take hits at the front, the back, and the sides. There is still a tremendous amount of work to be done absorbing energy at the roof and the underside. NASCAR is improving but there's still work to be done. Look at the driver's ****pit where their head is on a pre-COT car and a current car...massive difference. I remember reading that in the old cars, Michael Waltrip's helmet could actually brush up on the roll bars there was so little wiggle room.

When someone dies or suffers serious brain trauma

Yea, I can see why Dale Jr. retired when he did, the threat of CTE is very real especially at tracks like Daytona and Talladega. The Austin Dillion Wreck of 2015, Ryan Newman wreck and now Joey Logano's wreck have been the three scariest wreck I've witness live on TV.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of plate track racing, I think it's nothing more than putting 40 cars into a lottery wheel and seeing who comes out on top, it's a lottery race. So I wouldn't be too sad if NASCAR in the future decided to either race the Road Course at Daytona only, or either build a road course at Talladega or close it down. However, these races draw big crowds and big money, and NASCAR absolutely use these super speedway wrecks in their promotional materials. So I doubt anything it going to change anytime soon.

Those are the 3 scariest? I would put Preece at Kansas, McDowell at Texas, Truex at Martinsville, Allmendinger at Darlington, Hamlin/Reutimann/Gordon at Watkins Glen, Patrick at Talladega and many others ahead of your 3 in that time frame. Plate tracks generally aren't dangerous until the catch fence gets involved, and even then it is the fans who are most in danger.

Clint Bowyer had one of the best responses to one of these that I've seen yet after a 360 flip. Typical Bowyer: "she landed, when she came back down, she was still headed in the right direction and still running so I just grabbed a gear and drove on back to the pits".

The only unsafe thing here appears to be the window net being cut by the impact? Everything else held up fine from what I'm seeing
There is another photo that shows how far down the roll bar was crushed and impacted his helmet. I believe this is the same thing that knocked Newman out and caused his brain to be bruised.

Some of these comments on here are unreal. You guys would horrified of a sprint car race if you think that was bad. Haha my god you’ll see that Logano wreck 3 times in a night usually.

Guess we better stop racing sprint cars

Sprint cars don’t go 200mph and weigh 3400lbs.

Sprint Cars don't go 200mph, they don't race in a large pack and they usually go to half mile track or shorter. Comparing Sprint Cars to NASCAR is literally comparing Apples to Oranges.

I hear you, but Joey and Denny attack this form of racing differently IMO.
