2022 Silly Season

After his run today maybe Matty D can drive Cindric’s souvenir hauler next season
After the race he said that because they didn’t have the desired speed last year, they took a huge swing on the set up without practice and totally miffed it. Car was garbage all day no matter what they adjusted in the pits. I hope they can get it together soon. That playoff window is terribly tiny right now and they basically need a win.

I guess they don’t use Penske simulation data.

The other 3 cars do.

Logan finished best of the rest. I think the other two were 12th and 16th. Whatever ... laps ahead of the 21.

The reference was to Penske Cup team simulation data.

Says Brad would take over the #6 and have a large influence over the competition side at RFK or whatever it’d be.

Voluntary leaving Team Penske is ballsy, but it’s possible he’s become disillusioned with the team over the last couple of years and this sets him up well for a larger ownership interest in the long term. That’d be pinning a lot of hope that Next Gen helps tighten the field, otherwise you might be forfeiting another couple of years of his prime. He and Buescher could be a solid pair if his knowledge can help take the team to the next level.

Whoa:

This will be a massive shake-up, if true.

Wowzers. Obviously a big step for Brad, if he has full Ford support (which I couldnt see why he wouldnt) and he gets a Tony Stewart deal like when he went to Haas, I say go for it. You have everything you need in place as is, I think he can add some good people and go from there. This will be great for Roush.

Honestly, I wonder where Newman falls into the picture? I cannot see Roush expanding anywhere past two cars. They would have to attain another charter, which is a tall order with the likes of Kaulig and JTG needing a second charter.

This is purely speculatory, but Newman moves behind the scenes with Roush with his engineering prowess and knowledge. Or maybe Roush brings back the 26 or 97, if they attain a third charter.

Also, this will be big for Penske. This means they either promote DiBenedetto to the 2 or Cindric... Or here is a sleeper pick, Penske decides to move Matt D and put Cindric in the 21.

Kurt Busch back to the 2. This is the last year of Kurt's contract with Ganassi.

I wonder if that means Jack Roush is selling out? I mean don't forget the Fenway people have had new partners come in LeBron James technically owns part of the team. Perhaps Keselowski Fenway Racing?

I would think this means Jack is getting out. He's getting old now and his son Jack Jr has no interest in the NASCAR part of the family empire.

I just realized if this happens, imagine if somebody had told Bob Keselowski 20 years ago "your son is gonna own Roush Racing someday". This is like NASCAR's version of Charlie inheriting the Wonka factory. Remember, one of the reasons why Brad says he was always jealous of Kyle Busch is because they both tried out for a Roush truck ride and Kyle got the seat. What a crazy turn of events to then be able to put your name on that building.

Let's be honest an ownership stake going into next year is pretty much ownership stake in a charter. Very little equipment will be used again next year and people are people. Yeah people are an asset, but you don't own them. Yeah a few would be under contract, but beyond that they can go wherever they please.

Until more comes out "ownership stake" is pretty vague. Remember Bubba supposedly had a stake in RPM and see how that turned out.

I could be wrong about this, but I seem to remember hearing a few years ago that Roush was the only major team owner that has been around a long time without a clear line of succession in place. It's not surprising that he's searching for someone to follow in his footsteps. Keselowski wouldn't be a bad choice at all.

When Tony Stewart took an ownership role at Haas, the organization had been in Cup for 6 years with no finishes better than 5th and a season-best point ranking of 28th. In their very first season together, Stewart won 4 races and both drivers finished in the top 10 in points. Solely based on stats, Keselowski would be entering into a much better situation than that, though it's hard to know what it would be like behind the scenes.

There is also a lot of irony in this for Ryan Newman, who left Penske to join Stewart at SHR but could now potentially lose his ride if Keselowski leaves Penske to take this ownership role at Roush. Then again, with the new car coming in 2022, Newman could be thinking about retirement anyway.

Blaney to the 2
Logano 22
Cindric 12
Matt D 21

But remember, Gene Haas put his money where his mouth was and Jack Roush is spread thin already

The irony of it all.

Keselowski has his own automation business as well in KAM.

CNC machining and all. Brad took Penske's advice and ran with it in creating his own business. Brad I think could help elevate Roush, for sure. It's just as long as Fenway stays involved with the operation. I think they will be better off in the long-run.

Jack handing the torch to Brad would be cool to see.

No, he was supposedly / reportedly being offered a stake in the team to stay.
I'm almost certain that it came out that he already had an ownership stake. Just was offered a larger one to stay

This has to be a "long term goal" type move for Brad K if he does it. I see that ride as such a step down from what he's in currently. Gutsy, gotta hand him that.
Same deal with Stewart. Haas fielded midpack cars until Stewart came along and they started getting cars from Hedrick. If Kez does this, he'll align that team with Penske or he'll use some of his pull with Ford to step things up for RFR to get them competitive. Right now, the only competitive Fords are the three Penske cars and Harvick.

The question I have for Brad is sponsorship. I would assume the sponsors on the 6 would stay on to get a chance to work with and promote Brad. Next is Discount Tire, is that a Penske sponsor or one of Brad's? I think Brad can bring in some new sponsorship blood to the team much like Tony brought it in Old Spice, Office Depot, Mobile One and Rush Truck Center for SHR.

I'm not sure the sponsorship front is that great. The way brad was kinda talking that Miller was done for the year and he didn't know if they'd be back

He never had a stake, he was offered a stake as part of his next contract offering that he declined in favor of the move to 23XI.

I don't see Roush getting out completely. At minimum, I would expect it to be similar to Felix Sabates kind of sticking around after Ganassi bought his team.
Jack Roush is 79 years old. He'll be out completely sooner than later, maybe not by choice but by default.

They won't need to align with anybody, that's the point of the next gen car. SHR used to buy all their chassis' from Hendrick before going Ford/in-house but next year starts the spec chassis anyway so they'll all have the same one and same springs, same shocks, same controls arms, everything. You won't really see alliances anymore except for setup sharing most likely.

Took a little digging but I found it. Knew I wasn't imagining it

Whoa:

This will be a massive shake-up, if true.

Brad had a check list of things he wanted to accomplish, on that list was Daytona 500, another championship, and wins at Michigan and and road course.

IMO he drives for Roush and basically all of that goes out the window, save a Daytona 500. They are leaps and bounds away from Penske level of competitiveness.

Bob thinks it’s gonna happen

Everyone wants to be Tony Stewart or Alan Kulwicki but you could just as easily be a Bill Elliott. Imagine how many more wins Bill could of had if he had 1995-2000 back

I posted this in another thread, but while it's definitely possible, I remember lots of similar rumors with Bubba last year (but for different teams). That being said it does seem like Roush is improving a lot this year, and they could be banking on the new car evening things up next year. Also Brad closed his truck team a few years ago because of costs. Will he be in a better position to afford ownership at the cup level now?

What happens to the 2 if Brad leaves? Cindric is already signed for the 21 next year. Does Matt D move to the 2, or is there another up and coming driver ready that I am forgetting about? Do they move Blaney to the 2 and go down to two cars until Cindric moves over, choosing to focus more one quality instead of quantity for next season?
