Prediction: You read it here first!

I could swear I read where Roger last year around this time said they were giving Matt this year only. Maybe I’m hallucinating though
Is this what you’re thinking of?

The racing world read this is October of 2020…

They literally say Matt is out after one more year… what seems to have taken place is when the news of Brad moving to Roush came out… the internet somewhat seemed to run with a narrative that ‘this must mean Matty D is staying put…’

Penske/Wood Brothers never said anything like that during the news of Brad leaving… they have never gone back on what they said October of 2020 as far as Matty D being out in 2022.

thats it right there, well done. I knew I read it. So if this article is dated October 2020 and one reads the article comprehensively when finished the logical conclusion is The Burrito, The People's Champion is done in the 21 after this year....... my question is then What are we arguing about here?

Harsh reality ...

Matt DiBenedetto has never won a race in a NASCAR national series event after 306 attempts. There are 9 top five and 31 top ten finishes recorded among those races.

It appears his last win came in a K&N Pro Series event in 2011.

I'm going to play the Bowman card here. Before being tapped to sub for Jr., the guy had 133 starts in national series. 2 top 5s, 17 top 10s. Last win was an ARCA race in 2012

Then he was tapped by Hendrick at age 25. Starting with the 2018 season, 134 Cup starts, 5 wins, 22 top 5, 50 top 10, qualifying for the Chase every year.

So yeah, I'm in the camp that says the equipment makes a BIG difference.

You saying Hedrick has special pushrods?

Harsh reality #2

to get a top ride with the big 4 (Gibbs, SHR, Penske, HMS) you need great talent and sponsorship

rest of teams (sure all drivers have talent)
but
you bring the money you got a ride

First...Matty D is going to be 30 years old next year.

Second....it would be his 8th full-time season in Cup.

He hasn't put up results his first 237 races. And who knows...maybe he's asking for lots of money...he knows he's a fan favorite and he knows he's a veteran.
Are you serious right now? Matt has spent 5 of those seasons with basically start and park teams and moved them up the ladder. He then went to a half-baked JGR team and elevated them. His talents showed enough that Denny Hamlin praised him and Paul Menard vouched for him. He’s now in his second season with WBR and giving them the best results they’ve ever had in the last few decades, outside of Ryan Blaney.

You vomited stats without knowing a single bit of context.

You should apologize for this ad hominem nonsense.

I'll leave it at that lest I forget myself.

I really wonder what the crawfisher will do after he gets his foot out of his mouth and finishes pulling crap out of his backside.

“With Brad making his move, that kind of changed things,” Eddie Wood said. “So, we all got together, Team Penske, Ford Performance and all of our partners and we decided, with the Next Gen car in mind, and that’s a white sheet of paper for drivers, so we felt that’s a good time to bring in a young rookie.
The Wood Brothers Racing co-owner says rookies will have their best shot against veterans with decades of experience next year because this new car is so radically different than anything they have ever driven.

God bless Eddie Wood, but that is the biggest load of crap I've ever read. That is just trying to put a positive spin on a an unpopular decision.

So is it Eddie Wood that booted The People's Champ or was it Roger? You cant have it both ways: If we are in agreement that Wood is a satellite team for Penske then "the best results in decades for the Wood Brothers" is irrelevant because Roger thought there was a better driver available to plug into the ride. Null and void with the whining for the People's Champ. If we are in agreement Wood Brothers are their own, Eddie chose the driver who allegedly brings sponsorship with him (Ive been told this on here). Who are we mad at? I've been told on here this was Roger's doing......now we're mad at Eddie Wood when I think we are in all agreement the Wood Brothers are a satellite team. Good grief Iam confused. So its Roger's Fault, Eddie's Fault, Ford's Fault I read, but it isnt Matt's for going 0/2 years in the car. Huh.

Nobody booted him. His contract ran out as scheduled. No owners were obligated to sign Matt to a new contract; not Eddie, Roger, or anyone else.
Poor choice of words on my end... He was elected to not be resigned.

I thought we were retiring Harvick in this thread and now we're fighting about The People's Champ once more. Cant we stay on point??

Speaking of spewing vomit... DiBenedetto has *never* driven for a start & park team. You're making stuff up. And speaking of "context," why do you keep comparing Wood Brothers results from before the Penske alliance to the current situation? Not even remotely comparable.

Let me ask you a serious question... Have you seen those data overlays of Matt's data traces overlaid with the data from Brad and Joey and Blaney? No, you haven't, and neither have I. But you can bet your bottom dollar that Roger Penske and Tim Cindric and Eddie Wood have seen 'em.

Mike Joy has repeatedly told the story on-air about how effusive Leonard Wood is in his praise of Ryan Blaney. "Blaney pushes the button... HARD," says Leonard. He should know. He does know. That's what they're looking for, and if they don't think Matt is it, they go a different way. Case closed.

If Harvick has notions of a TV career after racing, now is the time to do it. Fox has an opening, I don't see NBC making any changes any time soon. Just thinking out loud.

That may be true for some teams but not necessarily true for Hendrick.
I don't think Brad had any money when Penske tagged him.

Thank you.

I think Dibenedetto will be the next Landon Cassil/David Ragan....I hope I'm wrong. I think he can have a solid career driving for underfunded teams, getting equipment home, and communicating what needs to happen with the car.

Each of those drivers has had decent equipment at some point in their careers (although for Cassil it was at the Xfinity level) and couldnt do much of anything with it.

People kept saying Matt would light things up if he even got in good equipment. I believed that. But he's two seasons into a solid midpack team and he's getting some top 10s but certainly isn't fast week in and week out. I would've expected a win at this point and a few top 5s a season. That's not happening.

It is so amazing to know that driving for crappy teams for most of your career means you suck. Damn, here I thought you had to have a winning car to win, nah I guess not. I am glad to learn new things everything from the folks at RF.

a good example is Erik Jones
in the 20—-leading laps, threat to win and winning
next year
in the 43– lucky to be in the top 25

I ain't buying that at all.
Blaney came to Penske sans sponsorship. Don't think Bowman and Byron brought sponsorship to Hendrick. Certainly Larson didn't bring sponsorship.
Harsh reality?

yeah I think Byron was the only one out of that bunch. He had Liberty college
