The Announcers Thread

I really can't stand the "radio style broadcast". The gerbils are bad enough doing a regular broadcast.

I said this in the other thread, MRN/PRN works because it’s a bunch of play by play guys and then maybe one color guy with the pit reporters.

If you did Bestwick, Allen, Bagley all doing play by play at different times with Jr and the pit crew occasionally chiming in it would be an amazing broadcast

We watched the race 90% with the mute on. They are the most annoying broadcasters I have ever tried to listen to. Burton sounds like somebody is squeezing his gonads every breathe he takes and sound he makes, Jr. is taking lessons from him and it is hard, at times, to tell Jr. from Burton, Steve L. talks so fast about nothing all the time, Rick, "MISTER OBVIOUS", always sounds canned and unreal.

If you are listening to a Race on the radio, not visually on TV, then I understand the excitement in the announcers voice and I like the way radio doesn't continually talk about the F'ing points, playoff BS.

I thought Bagley did a good job because he used the normal radio tone, and he got in, told you what was going on and got out, smoothly and didn't sound a bunch of teenage girls at a Taylor Swift Concert. Dale and Burton REALLY need to tone it down. I think one of the biggest differences is because the radio people get hired because they are good announcers. The TV people (for the most part) get hired because of their name.

Not usually a critic of announcers other than DW doing his simple thing but racing personalities trying to fit the role of a radio announcer and describing a race being watched is not my idea of a good thing. Really, now. We can see what is going on plus Burton's voice is irritating and grating (read that as annoying) when he tries to describe anything that is mediocre as being exciting.
Come on, NBC, go back to the announcers speaking when there is something to say and and leave radio broadcasts to people with much better experience.
I get that they were following orders but it was ridiculous almost to the point of gagging. I think the way if there is no change in the format is to mute the telly and listen to MRN.

It would be swell if Allen Bestwick would do broadcasts again. He's one of the best in the business, and has the professional attitude of a mature broadcaster.
I miss his presence in the booth.
He reminded me of how good it is when he announced the SRX series and how much of a mess the Nascar races are.

Good group to honor the racing heritage for stage 2. They won’t be able to top the last great blunder moments from Ken Squire…which I’ll never forget. We laughed our arses off.

”..that Jones boy” created a catchphrase for the rest of Eric’s life.

”..Suarez…the Mexican”. My wife and I looked at each other and said..”…did he just say what I thought he said?”

And that was the last broadcast of a great legendary announcer, who went one too many.

So Suarez isn't Mexican?

He has a different slant on things.
Replace Burton with Ricky and NBC would have a decent broadcast. It would be a simple change to make. One announcer, a driver (Jr.), a crew chief plus Ricky who comes from a biking background and knows different types of racing in general (including NASCAR). I thought he was interesting and engaging to listen to also. Put Burton off somewhere doing only occasional commentary.

Everybody put that suggestion on your fan council responses each week the rest of the year. Who knows, someone might read them.

The only other change they would have to make is to give Jr. a valium before each race so he doesn't go off like a rocket every time someone blows a tire.

Steve Kinser's only problem was the owner of the team. :booya:
Not really. Steve had a serious problem with trying to learn the handling of the car. He couldn't seem to get the "throw it into a corner" syndrome of sprint car racing out of his reaction. I don't know what Bernstein thought Kinser would do in that car but Steve couldn't make the transition from sprints to something weighing nearly three times what he had been used to. .

Well, we will agree to disagree.

Now that Football season is upon us, just imagine, for a second, the Gerbils calling a Super Bowl game....

Not about the announcers, but the coverage itself:

What a strange demand.

Bring ESPN back.

I suppose the Gerbils will be moving to the USA network. I received a letter today from my cable company saying that after Jan 1 because of higher rates they won't be paying for NBCSN anymore.

NBCSN will no longer exist as of January 1.

But your rates won't go down.
yeah they called me after I "communicated" with them and that was one of the topic I discussed. So you are eliminating 9 channels which means a rate hike and all we get is an apology? I have a wait and see for the time being to see if Peacock will pick up the slack. They don't even mention Nascar on their web site at present. It was tweeted by Justin Long that they would stream three races.. Whoopie, two of the three will be on NBC anyway. I'll do a dish something if I have too. Trees will fall if I need to do that to get a dish to work properly. What a bunch of B.S. money grubbing sob's
