Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Then why not go to Bowman-Gray other than less seats? It would be the same track.
I dunno I wish I was apart of the NASCAR Scheduling committee because I have a few ideas of my own but..... thats not a question for me to answer I'm afraid.

I don't understand the perceived value of having an exhibition featuring something that isn't representative of what the Cup Series is all about. If you believe in your product, then put it out there in its natural form, not some tarted up gimmicky representation of your product. While it COULD be entertaining in a can't not look at the disaster kind of way, I don't see ANY way this represents the best the sport has to offer. I can just imagine the pitch: "Like what you saw tonight? Good, now we are going to give thirty-six weeks of something quite different".

What ever happened to the outcry that Nascar was stale, had too many larger 1.5 tracks and the ratings and attendence was dropping like a rock? It was time to redefine what Nascar is about. Nascar under new management promised more road racing AND short tracks. California running the All Star race on a short track (that they have done in the past) instead of Charlotte is fulfilling another promise. The majority of fans asked for it and it is getting done. It is going to be smash mouth racing for a million bucks

Well don’t be surprised if the fan response there is “….huh? Oh yeah…I might go but it’s too (fill in the blank)“. Seating after the last renovation in 2018 accommodates almost 77K. What kind of track will they install? Isn’t it still used for soccer? Would this be a flat track oval?

USC plays football there

It’s kinda silly that NASCAR is putting all this effort into a new track in LA when just 50 miles away sits a highly anticipated new short track already under construction in Fontana

The “new market” line is pure bull****.
Clearly, it’s time for a visit from @NASCAR Apologist

I’ll put the signal out tonight.

The answer is to double down on what DOES work, not replace things that don't work with more wild ass grabs out of left field. I agree with Chex, why not wait until California Speedway is done and put on a race at a REAL track? And once again, I DARE somebody to mention cost savings when they're pulling stunts like this.

you will have to ask them that. The not THAT track continues to apply.

I cannot find much info anywhere now, but I swear I thought I read that the reconfiguration was delayed until one more race there next season. I could be wrong and kind of hope so.

Edit: Found the post:

So go there in 2023 and don’t rush to get to LA. They don’t even know if they will use the 2022 car at LA if they go. What a disappointment that would be.

So maybe it's because Freddie and Brett were trashed on Fireball but on DBC Freddie said someone told him that Gateway be dirt...which makes no damn sense. Brett did say there will be 3 trips to California next year

What do Michael Jordan and Armando Perez have to do with this?

My hope is that the Coliseum race is used to generate hype for the Fontana renovation with an all-out promotional blitz the week leading up to the race. The reconfigured short track should be a real nice bull ring, and it could be difficult to draw attention to that with the one speedway race left that far away from the population center.

With any luck the new Fontana is successful enough to get a second date back.

Why don’t we go international
Say Nurburgring

I guess if this LA Coliseum thing is more than talk, looks like that will be the first "event", then go to Fontana for the first race of the season followed by the Daytona 500. The Super Bowl is in LA this February, maybe they are trying to use that to get more interest in the sport. With the added 17th game to the NFL schedule, the Super Bowl is a week later than usual. Sounds like NASCAR is trying to adjust their schedule accordingly.

Can someone explain to me how that would/could work? The NFL is a behemoth that sucks ALL the air out of any room they walk into. When the media is in the Super Bowl frenzy mode, they aren't paying attention to ANYTHING else, and the NFL sure as hell isn't going to assist in anything that draws five seconds of attention away from THEM. I think they could have the race at half time of the Super Bowl, and the football obsessed media wouldn't even look up from their cell phones and laptops to see what was happening.

The participating NFL teams will be given tickets on opposite sides of the track. At the stage break, they'll scrimmage - two hand touch only.
-OR-
Players will be randomly selected to form pit crews. Coaches, coordinators, and staff will act as spotters.
-OR-
The race will be scheduled opposite the NFL Pro Bowl, since no one watches that anyway.
