The 4 team playoff is a joke. Bump it up to 8 so we can see what Cincy and Coastal Carolina got and keep the regular season important

Pretty simple, but it’s all about politics in college football
Hell, at this rate CinciNatty is going to make the CFP. Big teams keep losing and they just need to keep doing their thing and have Notre Dame keep winning.

Now I have to go to bed, and wake up to have my excitement ruined when Falcons drop a huge L to the ****** Jets.

Just seems like there’s always an excuse why teams like UCF, Coastal Carolina, and maybe Cincy can’t make their way in. Only way is to win year after year and hope a better conference invites you. Disappointing to be a Boise State fan for sure.

Ive been on the 5-1-2 (5 Power conference champions, 1 G5 highest ranked, 2 “wild cards”) for sometime. The G5 schools can figure out how to play tough schedules against each other and boost their schedule.

#1 Alabama/Georgia vs #8 Coastal Carolina would be a great watch. I’d tune in to the 1st quarter to see what’s happening.

I don’t really watch the National Championship game unless the committee does it’s job.

I think the biggest differences this year are the additional chaos (still the most losses by ranked teams at this point ever) and winning a big nonconference game. Those teams usually never had more than some fringe Top 25 wins over Memphis/USF type teams, Notre Dame’s schedule sets up for a realistic 10-2/11-1 record and Top 10 ranking that’ll look really good for Cincy. The Boise and TCU teams back in the day had those wins and probably could’ve made a four-team playoff under different circumstances.

Unfortunately it sounds like they can’t compromise on 8 so it has to be either 4 or 12, the latter is too much IMO.

I’d rather take 12.

Kinda comical they can’t compromise at 8 though

Thing is, 12 makes upsets like yesterday’s mean a whole lot less. Alabama could lose to Georgia in the SECCG and easily get in at 11-2 if they had that many under the prosper format.

I like 8 more but the hangups are if they expand before the TV deal ends the money doesn’t increase since it’s seven games either way, and the bigger conferences plus Notre Dame want more at-larges while the smaller conferences don’t. So the only way to make everyone happy and make more money sooner is 12.

Oh no doubt 12 makes the regular season less important.

Just do a G5 championship and move on if they want to keep out the lower half of Division 1. Maybe do a split.

8 team playoff is easy to do which is why TV and the execs just ruin things as usual.

Bama will get in at 11-2 in this system. They might as well give Bama a damn bye.

I am happy that, so far, Ohio State has looked stronger each game. It reminds me of a duplo or a Lego set tower. One on top of the other, slowly.

I can’t wait for an 8-4 Texas SEC season to make the newly expanded 12 team playoff. 🙄

As long as Coastal Carolina and Cincy have a shot.

Who does Coastal Carolina play? Their toughest opponent was Buffalo for chrissakes. They would get smoked by anyone else in the top 25.

I still think 6 teams is the perfect number for the playoff. Reward #1 and #2 with a first round bye. 8 teams would be OK, but anything more is unnecessary. But of course it'll be 12 because of $$$$$

They beat two top 20 teams last year. Why would they get smoked this year?

Just my guess. I think it's silly when people fall in love with G5 teams playing a soft schedule. Put them in the playoff and I think they would get exposed.

You’re right their schedule sucks but last I checked they did beat BYU last year? That wasn’t my point though…….. and man has the perception changed on the new Boise State type teams.

Why is it a problem to have a 5-1-2 system where the highest rated G5 conference champion gets a spot just like March Madness?

12 teams would be great if they invite all conference champions tbh.

8 team playoff with a 5 P5 champions, 1G5 champion, and 2 wild cards is what I would like.

The last thing I want is for college football to try and be anything like March Madness, but I understand your point.

I'm one of the few people who didn't mind the BCS. I don't like to minimize the regular season, but I understand that times have changed and nobody cares about bowl games anymore outside of the playoffs. I'm in favor of a playoff, I would just prefer they keep it exclusive among the true elite. I don't want any 3-loss team to have a shot at the title. Unfortunately with all this "superconference" realignment, we're heading that way.

I agree with your points. Just feels to be this new “access bowl” isn’t the same as it used to be.

I don’t want it to be like March Madness, but at the same token a 5-1-2 system would actually keep things actually like that, keeps the regular season important for everyone but manages to not water things down. The G5 would still need to have a schedule worth beating the rest of the G5.

Nothing wrong with having a 2007 Hawaii for every Utah or Boise State.

San Diego State off to a 6-0 start.

The Lack of Money 5 should do a bracketbusters type of deal in late November.

In some ways I liked the BCS better than this +1 system too, but then you had teams like Auburn who got screwed over.

I just think the “Access Bowl” is dumb as crap for the G5. Sure let’s throw them a bone, but never give them a chance at a playoff.

I just wish they’d expand to 8 for the sake of some Boise State, App State, Cincy, you name it. Make a provision for any top rated lower conference or conference champion that can be in the top 12 or top 16 of the rankings. Idk.

Why do they call it Divison 1 if you win all your games but never even have a shot at the title?
