2022 Silly Season

I'm just tired of people pointing to JJ every time a driver with a mediocre record comes up to Cup (and yes, I've done it a time or two myself). Ya know, most of those guys have the records they have for a reason. Hell, there are plenty of Busch / X champs and ROTYs who do zippo in the big show. Johnson was the exception, not the rule.
I don't pay too much attention to it. It's more of a story of circumstances as to why Burton is in cup than anything to me. Good driver bad driver blah blah. Keselowski quit suddenly. Cendric was supposed to take the Wood brothers seat. What's Penske going to do now that Kez bailed? Penske decided to put Cendric in THAT spot. Another into the fire pick.
That left a hole at Wood Brothers. It seems wierd that Burton would be considered at Penske at all to me at the time.

Now we find out that DEX for whatever reason had had enough of JGR and was wanting Burton to join Blaney who they already sponsored at Penske (not to mention which organization uses more of DEX products), no brainer Penske wins.

Can't say for sure but I would bet Burton was supposed to drive Penske's Xfinity car with DEX as a main sponsor. Penske and DEX probably decided to run Burton to fill the hole in cup and with what Penske saved in costs and manpower it made sense to scrap the Xfinity car.
JGR has cut their Xfinity program one car this year.

i think penske is way in head of the game, they have run australian supercar for years, those cars are close to the new car,

He was saying he was working on some Xfinity stuff when he was on the front stretch sunday morning

It must be a money thing in my mind Grala is good enough for a full time ride somewhere.

Nothing about Howie DiSavino III impresses me.

Good for Bohn I saw him at the trade show the other day and they were giving out stuff for that sponsor.

I like Grala, but he has had some pretty good chances in decent rides, but he hasn't any backing to keep them. If a driver doesn't have any backing as a rule they have to set the track on fire when they get the chance. I hope he does well with this next chance.

According to Jordan Bianchi at The Athletic, you have the story right, including the part about Harrison Burton being planned for the Penske #22 Xfinity car. And I regard Bianchi as an excellent source for silly season transactions because he puts a lot of time and effort into tracking the silly season silliness. He's a fine journalist, and he doesn't report on unsubstantiated rumors like so many Nascar "reporters" do. He goes after confirmation before publishing... like real reporters do.

Bianchi also delivered a scathing summation of why Matt DiBenedetto was not considered for another year at Wood Brothers, even after Keselowski left and Cindric got re-slotted into the 2 car...
Inexperience aside, Burton gives the Wood Brothers what they need after the breakup with Matt DiBenedetto. He won’t make waves, won’t criticize the team publicly and will accept responsibility behind the scenes when the team’s performance isn’t up to par. All of which will be appreciated within the Wood Brothers after a somewhat tumultuous 2021 season. This alone makes this a positive hire.

I don't know about y'all, but I hope this outfit stays home. New entrants are good for Nascar, and I certainly don't begrudge an opportunity for Kaz Grala, but Floyd Mayweather has a history of beating up women... over and over and over again. I've got no space in my heart for serial woman beaters. And Nascar has enough reputational problems without being tainted by that scumbag.

Mayweather was the highest paid athlete in the world for a number of years and a scant 450 million is his net worth. It isn't Jordan's around 2 billion mark, but I think he will last over 3.5 races.

I'm sure you meant 'under the bridge'. That's where 'our kind' traditionally dwell.

I wish Kaz well; how could anyone not like a driver named 'Kaz'? I'm not confident about even the short-term performance of a team that doesn't announce a driver, chief, sponsor, manufacturer, etc, until less than a month to go before Daytona. It feels slap-dash to me.
