Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

I also wonder if it's a bit of an attempt to tap into the dirt fanbase as well. Some hardcore fans may follow that much more closely than nascar etc.

Edit: didn't really mean to quote you, removed the quote.

good point. A lot of dirt racing fans follow both. We have more than a few here that do. Buddy Kofoid the reigning USAC midget champ in the trucks is going to pull in dirt fans, and of course a lot of dirt fans follow Larson and Bell. Weather permitting they should draw a good crowd for the races.

Problem is the dirt fanbase tends to always crap on pavement racing
Not a problem, there won't be any pavement racing there for them to crap on unless maybe it is the bicycle racing on the pavement in the parking lot and they have people to clean that crap up.

Yea. A lot that only follow one of the other too probably. I'd say maybe they are hoping to draw in some of those who don't follow both or don't like pavement racing. They probably figure at least a few of them may continue to check out some future races.

Also not saying it's right necessarily, but with all the talk last year (mainly by the announcers I think) of "old Bristol", I'd bet the choice of venue for the dirt race is intentional in an attempt at doing so while also trying to appease fans who are against it by saying "but it's still Bristol".

Drivers continue to develop, or they don't stay around...Use your brain
....and dirt is necessary for that to happen? Taking modern racing tracks back to horse racing venues from the 20's? Dunno. Stuff the snark. Someone with a brain would see that that kind of BS comment is starting to become somewhat unpopular.

So, honest question....Is the dirt crowd happy watching cars that heavy on a pavement track turned dirt? Seems like a big stretch for a purist.

The whole Bristol dirt thing is just so counterintuitive. What is the first thing that track owners look at in a remodel? Bathrooms and seating comfort. So, where in the hell does dust and dirt flying into the stands fit into where NASCAR thinks it going? The whole thing feels like such a stretch to me.

Probably not. Just an idea that that could be what they are hoping for. Could be wrong.

Royal Mounties 300 in the Woods

Kind of like "at the Glen".
The Dudley 400
On a serious note, I wonder if they bought out the Pinty's series. My second guess would be going back to Canadian Tire. The blown away pick would be they are going to race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve at Montreal

NW to dirt, while extremely disappointing, makes the most sense. SMI spends money once to update it and make it a dirt standard versus spending millions every year to ruin a Bristol race. That said, I was hoping against hope that NW would return as a paved track.

It's leaked out that NW is going to resurrect as a dirt track? Why is everyone on social media saying this?

I can understand that but it's been almost 30 years since the last Cup race there. I hope NASCAR has been able to attract enough new fans that most of them never saw the paved configuration and so aren't nostalgic for it. If that isn't the case, NASCAR has a demographic problem beyond what I'd previously imagined.

Maybe they will bronze the thing

Fwiw, @savethespeedway has been downplaying the notion of a dirt track conversion a lot today.

And…

If SMI continues the trend with the Bristol Dirt race in the spring, there will not be a need to make NW a dirt conversion. I feel as if it would be fine as is, I'd go down there in a heartbeat even if Modified/ARCA/Trucks were there. That's enough for me to go, honestly.

I’m shocked this Wilkesboro news hasn’t leaked at this current juncture. I can’t even speculate as to what it’s going to be, I have no earthly idea. The only thing for sure about Wilkesboro....is nothing is for sure. I do know I’ll be there when racing is coming back. Got the okay from the wife, she’s coming along. We’re trying to figure out if we’re going to drive or fly.

me patiently waiting for Adam Stern to drop a bomb leaking the Wilkesboro news or today’s announcement to drop.

fans on social media already bitching about:
1.) Wilkesboro coming back....... Im guessing thats from the younger folk that think NASCAR should keep the gimmicks and race everywhere but where they race now. and Im gonna stop on that note for this point because I dont wanna hijack this thread.
2.) If Wilkesboro comes back and it's dirt, they are saying they wont support it.
You cant ever come to a meeting of the middle with this fan base... half of em will be happy and the other half are always mad, no matter what you do.
