The weather had a HUGE impact on the racing product at Bristol Dirt last year!
There was 100-year flooding at the track that weekend!
If any of you have been to the track, you know you have to cross a 15-foot-wide creek to get to the main entrance. The creek swelled to totally inundate the entire lower parking area with roughly 4 feet of water! Campers within a couple of miles of the track had their vehicles washed away and some had to be rescued. Vendors were forced to gather their wares in the middle of the night during a storm. It was a horrible weekend weather wise.

All that being said, it would have made for a bad weekend for any dirt track in the country. I was still glad to be there and can't wait to leave for Thunder Valley next Thursday!
Pray for decent weather and maybe some good racing will follow!

That lot always floods. We stay at Rogers Gardens directly across from the main entrance, and watched those poor people get instant swimming pools a couple of times in those lots...

“But we also have to be patient and understand that where some areas are going to be great and much better, some areas are possibly going to be worse. And we need to, all of us, including the fans, work to make this thing better. Not just keep pointing out where every weakness is. We also need to focus on some of the good things.”

How many complete cars do the teams have these days? I believe the initial target was 7 cars per team. At the beginning of the season, it seemed like most only had 1.5 or 2 cars. Obviously no one has run out of cars so I would expect the teams inventory has increased?

What I read was that the hold up is 5 star bodies. That is the reason they didn't have practice for Xfinity and Cup at Talladega. 5 Star makes the bodies for both series

That is an awful lot of bodies, do they make the car bodies also?

Was listening to stacking pennies. They said there's only 2 other underbody scanners besides the 1 that nascar uses. One of them is owned by GM and is currently housed at the Track house shop. Might explain some of the performance

There are only a few teams that have wind tunnels and they lease wind tunnel time to other teams. I can't see the drama here unless they prohibited other teams for using the scanner.
I have a hard time swallowing that story in the first place. If a scanner was important, all of the large teams would already have one.

Thought no one was allowed wind tunnel time this year?

As far as the rest of the story what's so hard to believe? GM owns one and likely Ford or Toyota own the other. There's a lot of other reasons why not everyone would have one, at least yet. Money and supply chain issues would be my first guess. I'm not sure what system they're using but when we ordered our last laser scanner in December it was 130k and delivery was about 4 weeks. Talked to the sales rep earlier this week and he said we got lucky on the delivery because they can't get anything right now.

Yeah I'm sure the data is all being shared at GM, but when you can set things under the car and then run it through the scanner again for a second tweak I'd imagine it's a pretty big advantage. Not everyone else has that option right now

You said there were only two scanners in captivity quoting Lajoie

"They said there's only 2 other underbody scanners besides the 1 that nascar uses"

I think much of Trackhouse success stems from who they are partnered up with and a whole lot of good luck and being in the right place at the right time.

So what's so hard to believe about this?..................

a whole lot of things. I tend to think Trackhouse's advantage? if one could call it that, isn't because of an under body scanner. It's sealed up completely for one thing. On the other hand, who was Ross fighting for the win at COTA? A.J. was running a RCR affiliate car, same as Ross was. Who came in second at Talladega to Ross? Austin RCR Dillion.

Performance gains or losses caused by changes made to the underbody tray can only be measured by load cells in a wind tunnel or wheel load transducers on the car.

Is there enough wiggle room down there to justify the cost / effort?

Not a lot of wiggle room for engineers.

I've forgotten about the exact numbers, but its really tight. GM houses engineers in the Trackhouse facility as well.

I think it's just like everything else when they close the box in tighter the more the smaller things give you an advantage. Who would have thought teams would put those huge wiper blades on to run in the sun?

Maybe they found something in the under tray, maybe not. I just like that teams are trying something

Trackhouse's advantage is in the people. Period. This is a brilliant story. I love this team--although I won't root for them for one obvious reason.

It's all about people. Jimmie and Chad said the same thing. Tony said the same thing. You're only as good as the people who help elevate each other, both in work and in life.

This probably has a lot to do with it, they aren't going to lose anybody while they appeal

I hope everyone realizes this is nothing more than a strategy move right? Darlington is a pit stop heavy race, so why not appeal it to keep the "A team " together for Darlington?

I wouldn't be shocked if they came out next week and said "after further review we've decided to accept the penalty"

Man, where did you come up with that idea lol.

Rodney Childers is whining again.....Fords can't pass and they have no power apparently (per NASCAR Radio). First, with a spec chassis and a body that was approved, that sounds like a you problem....and with regard to a lack of power....again, a you problem (SHR chose the Ford pony)....never mind a driver that can't seem to find his way anymore. I wonder if ol' Rodney is playing the old fashioned lobbying game with NASCAR? Worked for Chevy a couple of years ago, and get 'em a couple of Championships.

^Didn't Ford have to modify the Next Gen nose due to an aero advantage before the season started?

You're still going on about a change that was made prior to the freeze.
