Cup RACE thread --- Sonoma

Dude's family is loaded.

Hard work, but the Chastain family is not short of coin.
Thats the one thing almost everyone on the Ross bandwagon likes to overlook .
What's your point? I'm a fan of Ross Chastain (although I don't like how he won COTA, which I regard as dirty driving). I don't overlook that his family money secured a truck seat at B Kez Racing circa age 19. What is wrong with that? I just don't understand the widely-held view here at R-F that anyone earning over minimum wage is somehow tainted and unworthy of success.

I don't remember anyone complaining about Jr. or Chase coming from deep-pocketed families with strong connections in the sport. Family money and connections didn't keep them from becoming 'Most Popular Drivers'.

Nothing.

He's just a simple dude, very low-key and is legit about one of the nicest dudes you'll meet. His brothers are cool, too. Just another example of it taking money to get into racing.

That's just racing in general. Don't have an issue with it, Ross is legit as humble as they come.

GMS definitely deserves more attention than what they get
GMS is crap this year. Jack Woods can't find his ass with both hands in 23rd place driving for a championship outfit. Deegan is two spots below for reference. Enfinger is struggling in 9th place.

The shop don't win races, people do. Marks was in the game before buying Ganassi
A lot of CGR employees were retained by Trackhouse.

Ganassi never got the chance to compete on a more level playing field like there is in Cup now. In other series where that’s already been established, Chip has had no problem competing against guys like Roger Penske.

What a bizarre discussion in this thread, trying to pit Trackhouse against 23XI... as if one is good for Nascar and the other is not... as if one is worthy and the other is just rich guys spending spare pocket change. SMDH.

There are unspoken agendas involved here. I don't know exactly what they are, and won't speculate. I'm sure they aren't pretty.

Personally, I am thankful for Rick Hendrick and Richard Childress and Roger Penske and Jack Roush and Joe Gibbs. These guys are all pushing 80 years (or beyond), yet they continue to bear great financial risk for meager ROI. Without them, there is no Nascar. They won't be around forever. And there is no established track record of racing teams being successful after transitioning to the next generation.

I'm thankful for Justin Marks and Pitbull starting a team and expanding and building it into a contender. Sad that we lost Ganassi in the process, but Trackhouse a net upgrade for sure. They've garnered tremendous media spotlight, and it has all been deserved.

I'm thankful for 23XI starting a team and building it into a contender. I didn't think Hamlin had the commitment to the sport that it takes to be a successful team owner. He has definitely shown me an additional facet that I didn't think he had. And he also brought Michael Jordan in... an legendary athlete and iconic cultural figure. They've also gotten a lot of media spotlight, and it's well deserved. I can't fathom any fan of racing thinking this is a bad thing.

I'm thankful for Matt Kaulig starting a team and building it into a contender. Remarkable progress has been made in a short amount of time. They get a lot of media too. What's not to love about that?

I'm thankful for Maury Gallagher moving up to Cup and putting together Petty GMS Racing. They deserve more media coverage. Hope they keep improving, and stick around for the long haul.

The sport of Nascar desperately needs all these new team owners and more. Anyone who can't see that is no fan of major league stock car racing.
This is my favorite post of the year so far. Well said. It’s amazing to me that fans are actually cheering against these new teams. What good does that actually do? Craziness.

People forget that Chip was competing for a championship from day one in NASCAR. Sterling Marlin came damn close to winning it in '02. He led the points for 26 straight weeks or something crazy like that.

His teams seemed to get less competitive over time, though.
That was a time of enormous parity in the sport. 19 different winners in 2001 (Sterling 3rd in the championship), and 18 in 2002. Sponsorship was flowing like crazy and cars weren’t super well-developed yet.

Over time it got harder to win without at least a major technical alliance, and cars were engineered much better than they ever were before. Different ball game now.

Very good point! Well said

I hate to say it but at least Austin is competitive most weeks. Same can't be said about Custer, who is in better equipment by the way.
Uh, disagree on the equipment part. Just driving the manufacturer alone gives Dillon an advantage IMO.

Totally. The way it was stated was "say something in Spanish!", which I personally felt was forced. I could be overly sensitive to it, for sure, I just took it as a bit exploitative, or disrespectful.

In any event, it's not important - i know there was no harm done or intended..and with how fast he's been this year, I don't think it will be the last time we see him in victory lane this season.

Way, way, WAY overthinking it. Seems like an opportunity to make Daniel a victim. Thank God he isn't that type looking for those opportunities.

They’re loyal to their manufacturer? I appreciate people like Revman who are loyal to Toyota and their brand

Am I exaggerating when I say that Suarez's win might be the most popular victory since Dale Sr.'s Daytona 500?

Depends, I believe the Amigos and many Latinos would agree with you, Others not so much. At any rate, is was a fine day at the Sonoma race for me. I enjoyed every minute of it, thrills, spills and all.

Maybe Chad takes over for a few weeks? Would definitely be an interesting combination.
I’m holding out hope for Lance McGrew. But in all seriousness it’ll be probably someone I myself am not familiar with from HMS

There is a good chance of that happening. I think they are going to choose carefully, Larson has had a string of bad luck the last two races.
It doesn't matter, and we all know that. Spare me the drama. Stupid ass rule....shouldn't be happening anyway.
