NASCAR - Television Ratings Thread

Are the ratings from the Indy race on peacock going to be reported?
Yea, I'm sure Racer.com or Adam Stern will announce the few hundred people who tuned in and watched the race on Peacock here before the EOD or perhaps tomorrow.

Cup bounced upwards from last year’s rain-effected race at New Hampshire, drawing 2.403M viewers on USA. Xfinity dropped from 1.079M on NBCSN to 860k on USA.

SRX finally cracked the barrier with 1.058M at I-55. Still low relative to last year, but a season-high with a promising one to go.

Interesting that the by far worst race of the year for SRX, got the highest viewership. But that's good to see stability for SRX.

Good number for Cup, last years race being rain-effected isn't a great comparison, but up is good.

Some people might say it's the Deegan popularity that spiked viewership...

I'd expect SRX to be a little higher this week as well. They have a pretty good points battle going on

2.59M for Cup at Pocono. Last year they were in Olympic break at this time, it was higher than both Pocono races a month before in June with the failed doubleheader format.

Xfinity came in at 914k on USA, Trucks 706k on FOX. Friday ARCA chipped in 252k on FS1.

SRX finale was about on par with last week at 1.064M.

Those 18-49 numbers are abysmal. F1 had a higher 18-49 in the morning.

Also worth noting that IndyCar had a higher 18-49 rating than SRX. SRX is probably safe for renewal though, those numbers ain't bad for a Saturday night - especially when you consider how much of the SRX's target audience is at their local short track at the same time.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Chase Elliott isn't the answer to increasing NASCAR's numbers with younger people.

Trackhouse and 23XI are the best things NASCAR has going right now. And I really wish Hailie Deegan was better, because she could infuse some serious energy into the sport if she went to Cup and was able to contend.

I don’t know if you have the same experience at other tracks but I noticed a LOT of people I would consider young, and a lot of kids at Pocono. Maybe it’s an outlier but the TV age brackets don’t represent the crowd I saw on Sunday.

I would not reach that conclusion. The numbers are poor for CBS on Saturday night. CBS hasn't aired a rerun throughout June or July on Saturday nights that didn't rate considerably higher. Reruns cost them very little to air.

I don't think there will be a third year. If I'm wrong, I'll eat crow. It seemed to be a successful promotion at the gate, with relatively high attendance and support. I doubt that is enough to pay the bills of such an operation though. National TV exposure drives that interest, and unless I'm missing something, I don't see why CBS would be on board for more.

Every venue was packed to overflowing. It wasn't relatively high attendance it was high. The series wasn't designed for the "organic" crowd, it was designed for a fun time. Mistakenly thinking it was going to be different when obviously it was never intended to be that way misses the point.

SRX continually outperformed F-1, Indycar, Xfinity the Trucks and ARCA. In other words everything but Nascar cup racing.

I imagine it’s a time buy, so I’m pretty curious as to whether or not CBS tries to charge more for a third season when 48 Hours reruns get better ratings. How many more sponsors they can get on board and help pay for that probably determines a lot.

Great in-person attendance for sure though.

Xfinity would clobber it in that time slot on a major network. Trucks would roughly equal it IMO, and so on.

If SRX is back next year on the same network, then my analysis is wrong. I agree that attendance was high. The only one I can recall that wasn't was Knoxville last year, and that's probably why it didn't return.

Highly doubtful. Xfinity has a really good week if they can get to 1 mil of viewership. Almost all numbers are below that

Xfinity is almost exclusively on cable. IMS this weekend is their second race on FOX or NBC the whole season so far. And it’s much easier to sustain viewership for six weekends than for 18, 24, or 32.

everybody whines and moans about lower ratings when it comes to weekend night races. SRX pulled good numbers period. Outperformed all but Cup in better time slots. I'll guess Xfinity at Indy will get 1.2 million on big NBC at the highest.

Youtuber Black Flags Matter once said that the lack of a good NASCAR video game could be a factor.
I think it makes sense. Playing the F1 video games has turned a lot of kids and young adults into fans of the sport. NASCAR's recent video games have all not been very popular.

Yeah, I think it's a HUGE factor. Half the kids I grew up with got into the NFL from playing Tecmo Bowl and Madden. One of my buddies credits MLB The Show with renewing his interest in baseball. I've met people who got into soccer from playing FIFA. I'm sure it's the same for hockey and basketball games.

NASCAR console games have been mostly crap since the mid 2000's. That absolutely needs to change. F1 has a great game and a popular show on Netflix. NASCAR and other motorsports need to follow suit.

I have a hard time buying this graph. College football is no doubt the number two sport in America

Yeah...and if I'm interpreting the graph correctly.... they're saying 1 out of 5 American adults is an "avid" baseball fan????? In what year? 1920???? 🤣

And 1/10 is an auto racing fan? HA. HAHA. In the Carolinas sure or if you conduct the poll in May in Indiana, maybe.

I tried to find the details behind this chart and couldn't find anything more than the "2,210 US adults" stated on the graph. At first I had a hard time believing the college football ranking, but then considered the majority of college football fans I know are male and a little over half the adults are female. Women's basketball seems to be increasing in popularity and that might explain why the NBA numbers are higher.

What I would like to see is a breakdown of the results by male vs female.

IMS had gains across the board this weekend.

Cup was up to 3.373M (2.83M in mid August last year).

Xfinity with 1.516M on NBC, up from 921k on NBCSN last year.

IndyCar also bounced to 1.046M on NBC from 502k on NBCSN.

Surprisingly, Trucks had only 492k at IRP on FS1. ARCA earlier at IRP chipped in 219k.
