The Clash

The Clash is awesome.....if it wasn't so close to my beloved Fontana, I'd be there.

I went last year but will probably not go back. They really need to make it so the fans can roam the pit area for this event.

To me it's the circle track equivalent to racing around traffic cones in a parking lot. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

An exhibition race....in the center of the country's second largest city....with new eyes on the exhibit. People new to the sport are overwhelmed at idle. Solid idea.

I guess I've never seen the value of showing people something that bares so little resemblance to what you do the rest of the year as a means of getting them hooked. To me it's like trying to get people to like baseball based off home run derby. If this is such a damn good idea, then build a REAL track down there and have a REAL event.

No one roots against NASCAR’s success harder than its own fanbase.
We're not rooting against its success. We're questioning the effectiveness of this event to turn casual viewers into motorsports fans. I'm still waiting on numbers showing how many of the people who had last year's Clash as their first exposure to stock car racing, turned around and watched another race all season.

That's rooting against Nascar's success. Coming from the same people the majority of the time, they pretty much hate about everything Nascar.

It's an exhibition race in an historic football stadium. It was also a financial success for NASCAR. But even still, you need multiple years of data to draw any kind of real conclusions. The event isn't losing NASCAR money and it's a fun little event for the existing fanbase.

NASCAR fans need to stop being so toxic and critical about every single thing. I swear, this is the most toxic fanbase in sports. If I were a new fan, that alone would keep me from getting more involved with the sport.

I don't see the equivalency. I'm not screaming that no one will show up or watch. I'm not saying the event will drive NASCAR into bankruptcy. I don't think the racing will suck. I don't want the event removed from the schedule, and I don't see it hurting the sport's popularity.

As an individual event, I'll accept it was profitable. I acknowledge it drew good ratings and that most viewers found it entertaining. I want NASCAR to be successful; that's why I'm questioning the effectiveness of this race to grow the fan base. But that's the only aspect of the event I question.

Due to its geographical location and area demographics, North Wilkesboro Speedway‘s renovation plans do not include replacement of the metal trays in men’s room urinals. Outraged fans‘ demands have been met.

Management will provide an alternative to California ticket purchasers if requested.

It's an exhibition race. It was highly successful the first time. Your logic goes against reality. How do you know it didn't attract new fans?

I wouldn't consider it a successful race. A successful event possibly. This isn't about the race its about the event

Huh? I guess your definition of an Exhibition race is different than mine. Take the race away and what would people show up for?

My concept of an exhibition is showing people the BEST you have to offer. If this was the best, the sport is doomed.

whats more stock car racing than having an intermission for a concert by Ice Cube?

Do you have any suggestions. I'm sure Nascar would love to hear it.
The Clash doesnt really bother me that much, its an exhibition race in the middle of a long off season winter. I was just glad last year to see the cars on track. but since you are asking and I'm pretty sure NASCAR doesnt care that much for my suggestions for a musical act, but it would be (for attracting newer fans maybe) Drake, Future, Dr. Dre, The Weekend.

I haven't seen who they have for this year

I don't know that it did or didn't. That's why I'm questioning. I'd be delighted if someone had numbers.
If they decided to not have the race I would say they didn't make money. They said it was highly successful. For me it was something to watch after a long drought. I was listening to MRN broadcasting when the entertainers? Were doing their thing and B.S.ing on the race thread. I'm simple to entertain. There was a lot of buzz on social media I noticed. It was a trending topic and Nascar seldom becomes trending.

This event isn’t my cup of tea either.
I’ll wait for the real racing.

Real racing? This format is literally used by hundreds of short tracks around the country! It's a quarter mile short track race! Aside from being in a football stadium, this is as close to grassroots racing as the Cup Series can simulate.

"Real racing" has become a buzz word for "I don't like it." There's no world where the Busch Light Clash isn't a "real race."

I'd be willing to bet as many people if not more showed up for the concerts than the race

27 cars is a bit much for a feature. I don’t watch 27 car demo derbies.

I wonder if larsen will lose his temper again and wreck someone like last yr

The heats can turn out to be head twisters. Many times the heat races are better races than the main. It takes a different mind set for me to watch this format. Some dirt races using this format, mostly because of timely poor wreck clean up by the track management and forever to switch heats can drag on and on. That isn't going to happen in the Clash.
I was surprised that a first time race under a different format in a new place never raced on had so few problems with all of the logistic problems that had to be solved. Lot a work done before hand.

How is Dre any different than cube?

I don’t understand the question. Are they supposed to be different?
You said to attract the younger generation. Dre and cube started their careers together in the same group and neither put out new music anymore. Honestly I would say cube would be better known with the younger generation due to his acting.

I hear you on this, but I think that some are so deep into this sport that they have lost the ability to see it through the lens of a newbie. My first live race was a ChampCar event in Portland. I didn't know what the hell should matter, but here's what did.... 1) The sound--so cool, and 2) The speed--intense.... That was all I could handle. I think that fans at The Clash get the sound....maybe not the speed, but enough of a taste to maybe come back for more.

You cannot build a track in the center of a city because it makes 0 financial sense. 0. I will bow to the commercial realtors and financial wizards on the Board for the specific reasons why....but we can use the remodel of Fontana as an example. That space can be used for big dollar investments, and so it shall. We are lucky that they aren't bulldozing the thing altogether.

This. I worry about that. Do you hear NFL fans talk like NASCAR fans? I truly believe that the big mouths have been overindulged via social media. Can you imagine what NASCAR would look like if it made decisions based on this Board's "Johali's Rate the Race".
