Silly Season 2024

They did venture out to the beautiful state of Sachsen-Anhalt and made their EuroNASCAR debut with Ryan Vargas driving at Oschersleben.
Are they gonna make it to Cup? Not in a million years.
They brought a young NASCAR Euro driver, Max Mason, to test at Hickory this past summer.
They've been doing some late model stuff as well.
Time will tell.

Dale also kinda spoiled on the DJD last week that it would in fact be Ty Dillon in the 16 Cup car.

Big opportunity for Josh Williams if so.
Huh didn't expect that...is he bringing money?

private Rumors is saying Dinger and Williams will be the full timers for Kaulig in Xfinity
I was always surprised Dinger agreed to run Cup in the first place. His returning to Xfinity won't surprise me at all.

Someone must think they're getting their money worth with Ty Dillon, but I couldn't tell you a single sponsor he ran for last year.

Their lineup for '24 is Hemric and Dillon? Talking about taking a step or two backward.
I've been a fan of what Kaulig has been trying to do, but this these moves just completely befuddle me. I would LOVE to know what the motive and theory on these decisions were. Looks like a HUGE step backwards to me. Dinger had his limitations, but he's a guy that could certainly win a race and maybe get into the second round. I don't see either one of these guys being in the same ZIP Code as the playoff drivers.

I’m pretty curious about that myself. I would assume so, but it’s hard to tell where from.
As Jordan Bianchi said on the Teardown with Jeff Gluck maybe he sold a bunch of shirts after Atlanta in the spring.

I have no issue with them taking a shot with Hemric. Maybe his second go round in cup will be better. Dinger is a better driver than Ty Dillon…no question. My guess is Ty is getting his ride as some type of quid pro quo Kaulig has with Grandpa Childress. Ty has always been the black sheep, but RC seems to keep him employed somewhere within the sport (Other than on HIS team).

...and Dinger was marketable.

Hemric is a great guy who has won a single race. Period.

Lineup isn't a world beater, but Kaulig is probably expecting to struggle a bit more until they get a long-term plan in place in terms of drivers.

I see them as placeholders, but you never know in this business.

How much money is Gragson bringing to SHR? Because he isn't the one I would want if I had sponsorship holes to fill.
I could care less, it isn't a dime out of my pocket, but Gragson stands a hell of a better shot at doing something than Hemric or Ty Damn Dillion. I'm constantly surprised Hemric or Dillion aren't driving late models full time somewhere.

Hemric isn't much of a winner but he's insanely consistent. In 5 full time seasons, he has 3 Championship 4 appearances (and the 2 he didn't make it were when was with Kaulig).

He has earned his way into a consistent Xfinity ride and I am at least curious to see how he does with a second chance in Cup.

Ty Dillon would bring a lot to Kaulig. Clearly their oval program needs to be improved. Ty is a veteran who knows crappy equipment, and presumably, how to make it better.... or he would've been out long ago. AJ was similar-ish.... but his last Cup run was the dinosaur era.

Think Michael McDowell, Buescher, Stenhouse...

Where is the evidence that Ty knows how to make crappy equipment better? If that were the case, one would think Pop Pop would have put him to work at the mothership instead of always farming him out. At one time, many of us thought Ty was the more talented brother, but as average as Austin has been, when was the last time Ty got more out of a car than we had a right to expect?

238 Cup Starts, 2 top 5s, 7 top 10s, 87 laps led, average start 27.1, average finish 23, Running at Finish 211, Lead Lap Finishes 101.

So he finishes races but other than that not much to write home about.

The top 5s are at Daytona and Talladega, all but 2 of the top 10s were as well. The 2 that weren't were Vegas and Bristol Dirt both 10ths.

He's made starts in 10 seasons, 6 full time, which have come in the last 7 years.

He's made starts for:

RCR
Leaving Family Racing
Stewart Haas
Tommy Baldwin
Germain (Full Time) 2 top 5s 6 top 10s
Gaunt Brothers
Petty GMS (Full Time) 1 top 10
Spire (Full time)

Ty is who Ty is, the results don't say he gets more out of the equipment.

I wouldn’t bet on Ty Dillon to be the one to improve Kaulig’s oval program, or anything else in that outfit. Those 3 drivers you mentioned have displayed some iota of talent or know how over the years, Dillon has demonstrated to be a moving obstacle each week…I don’t think he gives you much more than a hope to bring home the car in one piece

And that's the Honky Tonk Truth!

So he gains an average of 4 positions per race and finishes 90%+ of the time? I think that's exactly what all those teams on that list, plus now Kaulig, are looking for. (ok not SHR or RCR but those were sub rides iirc)
