Unfortunately, you cannot compare post-Chase Championship stats to pre-Chase Championship stats. If that were the same, Jimmie would have two less Championships under the old point system.

Well, this will be his 8th year participating in cup, and he has 21 wins.
So in another 20+ years, at this pace, he should be there.
The suspense and wait is incredible:rolleyes:

i thought i was done here, but i guess not. i'm calling complete bull$hit. i heard the same drivel when jeff gordon won his second championship. and he has far better staying power than kyle, but will never get an 8th championship as predicted by the same type of fans that now spout kyle busch love.

kyle's racing skills may be better than gordon, but there is no way he keeps a ride (read: sponsor $$$) with the top tier cup teams to keep up the pace to catch earnhardt. i'm reminded of when sportscasters state in may that so-and-so is on pace to hit 89 home runs. time will tell. but if vegas had a line right now, i'd bet a chunk against the kyle bandwagon.

Um...Kyle has only raced in 6 full Cup seasons. It took Dale Sr. 22 years to get those 76 wins.

Jimmy Spencer says Childress was wrong: from a Jimmy Spencer article on SPEED - But take it from someone who has been there  Childress crossed the line in punching Busch. No one should ever hit or physically confront another individual. Arguing, hurling insults or yelling at someone is okay, but you shouldn't touch them. I picked the wrong way to handle my problem with another Busch brother, Kurt, years ago, and I still regret it. I think Kurt learned something from me punching him but I learned more, and if I had the chance to do it over again, I wouldn't have hit him. I've been in several brawls in my time and nobody ever wins. Childress got off too easy. NASCAR should have come down on him harder than a $150,000 fine. They should have suspended him for three races  that would get his attention. He took responsibility for what he did but never apologized because he's really not sorry. I speak from experience when I say that situations like last weekend's affect the younger generation a lot, especially the kids watching our sport. My biggest problem with what Childress did stems from the fact that he is representing major corporations with thousands of employees. Yet he let his temper get the best of him and he assaulted someone. That gave the sport the biggest black eye it has had in years. Fans and folks inside the sport may think it's funny, but these companies probably aren't happy about having a car owner representing them who assaulted someone.
And believe it or not, I think that Busch's sponsors can be proud of the way he handled himself. We're usually criticizing Busch's behavior, but I admire him for not fighting back and also for staying in the car at Darlington when Kevin Harvick came up to his car on pit road. Busch is the most exciting driver in our sport right now. Yes, he ruffles feathers, but so did the late, great Dale Earnhardt. But Earnhardt didn't outright attack other drivers. I admire Kyle for respecting Childress enough, although he got punched, to not punch back. It takes a strong person not to retaliate.
I still don't really see what Childress was so upset about. Busch wasn't out of line in bumping Coulter's truck on the cool-down lap. Rewind a few laps to when they were putting on a hell of a race for fifth place and Coulter slid up in front of Busch. If Busch hadn't lifted and let him go, both of them would have wrecked. Coulter was the one at fault there, so Busch bumped him after the race to teach him a lesson. That's just part of racing and how you teach younger drivers who are coming along. Sure, Busch did a little damage to Coulter's quarter panel, but he also did the same to his own truck.(in part from SPEED)(6-9-2011)

Kyle has staying power. Other than that, you bring up some good points. When Gordon was racing, everyone said he would win 200+ races and 8 championships.

Kyle will probably end up winning 200 races in all of NASCAR, but that's comparing apples to oranges. Kyle's running twice as many races per year compared to the people he's being compared to (with the exception of, maybe Carl Edwards).

A guy wins four or five championships, like Gordo and Johnson have, then I'll think about them winning eight.

When Gordon won his fourth title in 2001, everyone thought he was on his way to setting every record, but he hasn't won a championship since (despite scoring the most points in 2004 and 2007).
 
Fastest to 10 Cup wins, Kyle already beats out Earnhardt by almost 50 races.

Most Sprint Cup Series wins before 26th birthday:
Jeff Gordon, 26
Richard Petty, 22
Kyle Busch, 21.(5-7-2011)

Not my problem. Sr. would've needed to start winning sooner to be able to compete with Kyle Busch.


Statistically, Kyle will surpass Sr.
He is already tied with (49 yr. old) Earnhardt in all-time wins among all 3 series.

Plus, competition is a hell of a lot tougher now than it was when Earnhardt and Petty were driving.

There we go with the "among all three series" crap again. Once again, Kyle runs 2-3 times as many races per year as Petty and Earnhardt did... most of them minor league events.
