Going to the races next week. Won tickets to truck, NW, and cup. Hoping the state and track are prepared better.

The state drooped the ball as much as the track with the deal last year.

Congrats on winning tickets!!!

Well they have made a plethora of improvements. I really hope for the sake of all involved that things go much better than last year.

Thanks guys!

I agree, it took us 8-9 hours to go what would of took 35-45 on a normal down. It was crazy. But looking forward to trying it again. Was in.the pits last year.

I have a feeling that those changes won't be necessary come time for the Cup race... I'd be surprised if 60% of last year's crowd shows up.

I think most fans will give it another go. I'm sure the speedway has reached out to the fans and kept them apprised of the improvements. The people in that region are crazy about NASCAR.

Hopefully the learned from last year as that was bad. Congrats on scoring free tickets and have a good time.

I'm sure there's quite a few still pissed off from last year. Less people Lap3 will have to deal with Enjoy the races and have fun. You won the tickets to all 3 so you should have a nice beer budget to work with.

It doesn't matter if the interstate is 26 lanes wide. If you only have two entrances to the track and don't have enough parking, you're going to have traffic backups. It took Bruton months to realize the problem is KY Speedway. He blamed the state, the police, NASCAR, the track workers, everyone except himself and the track.

We always tailgate for an hour or two after the race, cook burgers and wait for the lot to empty. In March, we waited about 3 hours for the lot to empty at LVMS. I'd rather wait while enjoying a beer and some BBQ than to wait on the road, in traffic.

I was there last year and it was okay because we got to the track at 8 am and didnt try to leave until the roads were clear. Everyone can find other things to b!tch about but it is a new track with growing pains. The race was vanilla but the good side is I was there for the first one. The track is sending me a lot of incentives to attend this year but we have other plans.

Actually, it's not a new track. That's the main reason for the complaints.

New to cup. New to that many fans. Best some people there did not know about the track till they put it on the schedule. I do not say it was all the track. The track can not put in.exits and make the interstate wider. KY is broke. So that's one reason it took so long to.do.

I.had to walk what seemed like an hour to get back to the car and was out in less then an hour I think. So not bad.

I'm just looking forward to.going with dad. He's never been to.a cup.race before.

I know its not a "NEW" track but its new to cup and everyone here but you knew what I meant. If we all started critiquing your comments like you do everyone else we would have to change the name of the forum to "TRY YOUR BEST TO PLEASE ANDY".
By the way were you even there last year Hmmmmm?

Our Andy is special.:)

Congrats on the tics Lap3 you and Dad have a Great Time!

Don't pay any attention to these whiners, crybaby's and complainers, I know deep down there all just jealous as hell.

As I said before, I got there early and left late and had a ball. Good track good people. You and dad enjoy yourselves.

Hey, don't go throwing your "I live in the state and was actually there" facts around. You know damn well that doesn't work on Andy. o_O

I had all intentions of going to Kentucky this year... Until I learned my local short track will be running the winged sprints.

Let's see... Drive a half an hour and watch great racing or drive four hours to watch great racing.

No brainer.

For every fan like you that thought it was awesome (free pit passes will make anyone's weekend), there were plenty of folks upset that they didn't get to see it, got turned away at the gate after driving for 12 hours, etc.

The track can (and has since) add entrances to the parking lots. You can have 100 roads leading to the track and a 40 lane highway but, when you try to funnel 120,000 people in to two entrances (where there isn't enough parking to start with), you're going to have problems because all those cars trying to get in to one place is what's causing the bottleneck. I'm not taking all the blame off the state, but Bruton Smith and Kentucky Speedway blamed everyone except themselves for this mess.

Unlike some of the naysayers on here that are just repeating what they read and heard and are trying to sound knowledgeable, lap 3 and my wife and I and many others were actually there. For some there were problems but for the majority it was a ball. A day at the races is never a bad day regardless of the circumstances.

Unless you are one of the 15,000 that couldn't get to the track due to typical SMI incompetence.

There ya go, throwing around those "I was there" facts.

Since he was there already in the track he knew less of what was going on outside the track than those of us watching the pre-race shows. In the bubble.
The Andy bubble? Nope, no gloom and doom, just some people that KNOW they were there and had a blast. Listen to Andy and the gloom and doomers, it sucked for everyone.

^ This.

I'm sure everyone who was there had a great time. But 15,000 people paid for tickets/travel/lodging/etc. and were sent home. Then, SMI refused to refund their tickets. After refusing to refund the fans, Bruton Smith blamed everyone else except SMI and KY Speedway for the cluster.

It's forgivable when a new track opens and has these problems, and the track addresses the problems. It's not forgivable when it's the third time a situaiton like this has happened at a track that's been open for ten years and the track blames the state, county, the police and everyone else.

If it was all the state's fault, why did Kentucky Speedway construct new parking lots and add more entrances?

I could respond to this with reason but I just realized that I am trying to reason with an empty darth vader mask.

#1. Nailed it again Matthew.

Traffic for the Baltimore Grand Prix was also a disaster and, since I was stuck in it for three hours, I know how bad it was. I enjoyed the race and had a blast that weekend and that far outweighed the traffic nightmare I sat in on Friday. But I certainly don't go around telling people that I had a good time and the traffic problems they had and the road closures they went through didn't exist.

In fact, sitting in traffic is one thing. Being turned away without a refund is another. I would be laying mushroom clouds if that had happened to me.

The whole thing was ridiculous. They expanded seating from 66,000 to 107,000 without expanding parking lots. Then, they said it wasn't the number of people that overwhelmed them, it was the number of cars. How the hell did they think people were going to get there? Put on blue spandex and a red cape and fly in?

You're never gonna let it go, are you? Get over it, move on. You weren't even affected in the least, and you still go on and on.

I go on and on because I don't think that track deserves a fourth chance and I'd rather see them race at Iowa.

I 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th that emotion, thought and idea but unreason will probably prevail.

Well I guess his car hasn't broke down in a while so he has to have something to bitch about.:D

Fourth chance??? I have mssed three races at Kentucky???

This is one of the things that gets me so pizzed off with you Andy. You melt crap together to meet your agenda. The cup race has not been to KY four times.

Enjoy the day with your Dad. A day like that has a lot of value, traffic or not.
