Phoenix RACE thread ----

You can say that for every driver though.
I can say every driver has 11 top 5's and 18 top 10's this season? Wow really because I thought there were only 3 that had that or better. Auto Club, Bristol, Kentucky, Atlanta... all races Joey could have won with a VERY slight change of fortune. There's more but I forget lol.

Read the quote. Every driver can say they would be higher in the standings if they had better luck.

My sister in law is here, probably the most irritating person in the world, so if I start typing things like:
All work and no play makes Jack a dull dull boy, repeatedly, there may be a problem.
lol Lock up the axe.

Well, my take is that a softer tire would be faster. Just like the repaves and all the aero widgets, the car in front would be faster and harder to pass and probably would mean more single file races that stock car fans don't like.

It would be more about which driver manages their tires better. You would see a lot more passing late in a run, no matter what the aero is.

If I were Joe Gibbs I'd be seriously evaluating my crew chief options for the 20 car. It's one thing to completely miss the set-up on the car, but Ratcliff choked big-time when the pressure was on yesterday.

To tell the driver there's nothing he can do for him in that situation was ridiculous. Then to be seen strutting through his pit area with a big smile on his face just after their disastrous pit stop was bizarre. It was his fault the tire changer didn't know if it was a 2 or 4 tire stop.

If they want to seriously contend for championships I'd be thinking of someone else for the CC job.

Kyle was pushing the front all weekend and recieved little help from his team. Kenseth started the race with a reasonable car but it got worse every stop. Phoenix is a tough place but Kyle knows how to get around there as good as anyone. With a half decent car Kyle would own the place just like he does in the Nationwide series

Kyle Busch has driven HMS and JGR cup cars at Phoenix. If he doesn't have a win there, it's hardly the fault of the gear he's given.

kyle has to do with Kenseth's CC problems... how?

Well I am going out on a limb here and saying that its obvious ALL the Gibbs cars sucked. Ratcliff has done a good job all year so I doubt the problem was all him. The cars were so far off that adjustments werent helping. Kyle had a top ten car at best. Kenseths must have been similar.

I should say, that KyBu did win at Phoenix in 2005 and the cars which JGR drivers were given yesterday does leave one to scratch their head.

They were probably using that "group setup" again. At least TRD wont get the blame this year for building junk engines.
Its pretty cool to see which of the JGR drivers shines when they all are driving slugs :D

Need pics of SIL to be sure.

Their practice speeds and qualifying were good so something got out of whack somewhere, somehow  Hamlin starting dropping immediately, like he tossed an anchor out or somethng.

Short run wonders for sure. pushing the front wheels like a skateboard. It wasnt pretty to watch

It's simple, the Yotas decided to take Sunday off.

weather is different today, wonder who missed the setup
Here ya go, almost the first post. All three of the Gibbs cars were slow, Hamlin dropped like a rock, Kyle never was a threat for anything, and of course the one they had the camera stuck on the 20, we all know what he was. It happens, teams miss the setups, and as close as the racing is that is all it takes from 1st to worse.

Yeah, it doesn't often happen that the bigger organizations miss the setup with all teams but obviosuly it does and we seen that yesterday. It has happened a few times this year with a few different organizations and in the end, JGR isn't exempt.

Last year, same track, Johnson and company missed the setup, blew a tire, cost them a championship. Hendrick's weren't that good last year, Kahne was 4th, Jr was 21st, Gordon and Johnson in the 30's. Gibbs cars on the other hand were 2nd, and 3rd and the Joey was 27th. This year Hendrick hit the setup 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 14th place compared to 7th, 23rd and 28th for the Gibbs cars. I think the Gibbs cars were set up really loose at the first of the race anticipating a warm and getting warmer day, but it was cloudy and cool so they all were struggling from the first. Hamlin spun out he was so loose, and the best driver out of the bunch with a loose car, Kyle did the best out of the three.

You can count on Knaus and the rest of the 48 team as well as Hendricks to keep a close eye on the Forecast for Homestead, they know what happened to the Gibb cars, and they know it can happen to them as well.

Phoenix is a very un forgiving track. Kenseth cant deal with a car that isnt perfect, he has been blessed all year with some very good cars. His performance in the Nationwide race wasnt much better. Gibbs should have listened to Kyle :D

What was Kyle telling Gibbs?

Does anyone know what happened to Cole Whitt? Everyone checked up in front of him and he flew into Reuti and DP sideways at like Mach 10.. I assume someone punted him from behind? Otherwise he is trying way too hard to be Steven Wallace.

yeah right, Gibbs would be sponsor less and out of Nascar by now if he listened to that hot head.
