Summer just up the beach at Fort McRae. Accessible only by boat. I posted some of these pictures but they were lost in the meltdown.

I researched it and couldn't find one like it. Everything is original but the missing radiator and grill. This is the motor and transmission.

Awesome.

I took my three year old son to the airshow here in Knoxville a few weeks ago. The Blue Angels performed and were amazing. The whole show was great and seeing my son get excited when he finally saw the Blue Angels in the air was priceless. He may not remember it, but it's something I'll never forget.

Well planning our next vacation as my mom is on the ship for 75 days.
Get on board Aug 16th
We are just going to get on in Honolulu and get off at home in Auckland but will be great to spend time with her and my bro. How are your plans going @Whizzer

I'm lucky. I get to watch them practice every Tuesday and Wednesday from my backyard or boat. They do the entire show both day's. :D

The pics I enjoy taking are often of dilapidated things or things people have forgotten. I roam around looking for abandoned cars and trucks, farm equipment, schools, buildings, houses.....well you name it. I also like scenery and wildlife and things that remind me of my youth. Today I have an old Chevy C/10 sitting on an abandoned farm and an even older Ford sitting in the middle of a field.

Absolutely. I like the way the thread is being used. :)

Cool truck btw.

I think it is cool too and hope more people jump in and post pics of things they have taken or things relating to vacation or travel. I will post them sometime but just the other day I saw a 1960-61 Econoline Curbside that was sitting on a person's property and a Citroen DS that was sinking in the ground and rusting out. There was a newer Citroen (SM?) on the property that was also out of commission but I could not see it as there was a dilapidated 1977-79 Corvette blocking it.

2 old Citroens? I thought it would be hard to find ONE up in the states.

I hear you and to make it even more strange they were out in farm land. There were 4 newer Saab's on the property that were all licensed for the road.

The only Ford Curbside's I see any longer are ones at car shows that have been restored so I was surprised to see this old gal just sitting beside a barn. I can't tell the year of this model but I am guessing it as a '62 or '63. Next up is a Citroen DS trying to hide behind a tree. What surprised me about this is that it was in farm country where every vehicle is a Silverado K2500 or a F250. I have not seen a DS on the road for decades although there was a program on TV not long ago where the lead character occasionally drove one.

I was like Elmer Fudd yesterday as I had to be vewy, vewy quiet while photographing this Great Blue Herron. If these birds hear a twig snap they take flight so I was happy to be able to accomplish the mission.

Well I don't have a picture - but I will try to weave the story so folks can see it in their minds - if they have seen a big skunk in their lifetimes.

Dateline 1995: I was up at about 9500 feet camping around Dillon Colorado with a couple buddies. It was sort of a "scouting trip" since they were deer/elk hunters - but I had a truck and brought extra beer so I was invited :).

We brought steaks also but wanted to get some fish for "surf-and-turf" and we managed to catch a few trouts out of the local stream. Anyway we caught them late in the day and decided to clean them back at camp (note to everybody: clean your fish where you caught them - do not clean them back in camp).

So to make a long story short...Tim was the cook and he fired up the cooking mechanism...Gary was the fire-wood getter (big strong guy)...and I was the fish cleaner. Thing was, it was dark by then and Gary had the good flashlight, so I just cleaned the trouts fairly near the Coleman lantern we had set up in the middle of camp (I wanted to see enough not to hurt myself with the knife)...and then I just threw the fishy guts out into the vast darkness...mission accomplished !

Thing was, the darkness wasn't as vast as one might think and big skunks are apparently fond of Brook Trout innards :dunce:.

...add to that when I gave the innards a heave it basically created a "trail" for the skunk to look for more innards (he/she didn't realize that was all we had...apparently). So Tim is cooking and Gary has brought in the firewood and I am sitting around the campfire with my legs on a nice chunk of pine and along comes the biggest skunk I had ever seen. I yelled (well actually I sheepishly muttered) "skunk in camp".

Of course we all semi-panicked. Gary wanted to shoot him but Tim and I disagreed. Gary said if he hit the skunk right in the brain it would be dead before it could spray. Tim and I had to be very "tactful" in talking Gary out of the shooting option. We didn't want to actually call into question his marksmanship skills - but we did have a combined batch of a thousand dollars worth of camping stuff within skunk-spray range and we knew that if we got hit too we wouldn't be "welcomed" by our wives for a couple months ;).

So we just let the skunk do as it please...Tim even left the fat he had trimmed off the steaks before we hit the sack...live and let live :D

Oh, yes --- I can see it perfectly. Sure glad you didn't shoot it.

Yeah...sometimes doing nothing is the best option ;).

When we got into the tent that night and the fire was dying out we took one more look and ole "skunky" was still circling around the fire - looking for leftovers. Luckily we all remembered our Boyscout training (no food in the tent).

We're leaving in a week, Mon. 6/6, on the first part of our summer vacation. We'll be gone about 4 weeks. I hope the weather straightens out before we go. It's been nothing but a mess over there for several weeks now. It's a pain in the butt pulling the RV through the mountains, especially in a storm. Below is a map of our itinerary. Each stop is a State or National Park Campground. I made our reservations last January because they fill up quick. I located each stop so everything we want to see and do is within an hours drive. Stop B is Beaver Dam, C is Kiowa Park I, D is Palo Duro Canyon outside of Amarillo where we'll be visiting my MIL. Stop E is Cochiti Area, F is Junction Creek, G is Black Canyon S. Rim, H is Cheyenne Mountain, I is Minooka Park, J is Buffalo point Campground, K is Leroy Percy Campground. Time to be like Willie Nelson, on the road again.

Outstanding as that trip will be loaded with scenery and is a guaranteed good time. Looking forward to seeing pictures.

I took a jog over to Lake Michigan the other day as I never tire of the Great Lakes which in most respects are just fresh water oceans. The first pic is of a beach area that for some reason was not crowded like a couple of other areas I saw. The second pic is from a bluff overlooking some trees and 50 miles on the other side sits the big city of Chicago.

While I was at I figured I would post a couple of pics of some old Chevy Pickups. The first is a 5 window and looked pretty good and the second one was a runner.

Earlier in May, my dad, sister and I took a trip to New England. We came from Kansas so the drive was long and we didn't get to see everything we had hoped. However, we still did see several different attractions. Below is a lighthouse in Rhode Island, Niagara Falls of course and a random waterfall in New Hampshire.

Located about 5miles south of Ocean City, MD. Assateague Island may certainly not be for everyone. If you are an RV'er and prefer the more secluded beaches and are okay with limited amenities then this is your place. We've been coming here a long time. We make our reservations a year in advance. Price is about $30 per night. I can throw a stone on the beach from my campsite. I can listen to the waves breaking on the beach all night long. Very relaxing.

That sounds like my kind of place as I prefer tranquility and the sounds of nature and by nature I am including the sound a bottle of beer makes when the cap is removed.......:D
