The Announcers Thread

Not sure about the pit reporters being embedded with some teams. It has potential. But I didn't think they added anything they couldn't do my listening to the scanner and reporting it.

I had to laugh when Larson gave them a big welcome back during the pace laps. Sounds like he's not a fan of the Fox people.

So what?

Got to ask yourself, how important is the racing to you?

I have a hotspot with unlimited data through AT&T, grandfathered on an ancient old plan.

I've done satellite internet before. I get Starlink is better than traditional satellite internet, but it still sucks compared to LTE, 5G, cable, or fiber.

I agree it didn't add much this week. Maybe they'll come up with a way to get value out of it. If they don't by the time the playoffs start, it'll be time to put it on the pile of Good Ideas That Didn't Pan Out.

Good for you.

That is all fine and good, IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO ALL THAT, many folks do not.

I have friends with Starlink and they love it, crystal clean. I use Verizon for cell and internet, works great. I sh*t canned Centrilink, they are a sucky sucky company.

Satellite internet, it's expensive but it makes up for it by being unreliable. Strictly for those with expense accounts or who are charitable recipients.

I totally disagree here, It is an entertainment option that is available to you and anyone else. It is up to the individual, to decide what entertainment options they can afford. It may take eliminating other entertainment activities, if you current budget will not allow you to get it.

My friends with the Starlink say it is worth every dime and some of these folks are real hardasses.

You should have seen the tweets from media personalities and other industry insiders yesterday.

Marty Smith would be an excellent addition. I never thought he'd leave ESPN, but he is very good friends with Dale Jr.

I might be reading too much into this, but it looks to me like Prime and TNT are going to share announcers (at the very least) like CBS and World Sports Enterprises (TBS) did back in the 90s. If so, that makes a lot of sense seeing as they only have five races each.

The most disappointing nugget in that article was the possibility that Adam Alexander goes to The CW. If Rick Allen doesn't go back to Fox, you almost have to assume Jamie Little is indeed the one Fox plans to replace Mike Joy.

On another note about TNT ... while their 2001 and 2004 music packages were both excellent, I'd love for them to bring Edd Kalehoff's music back. TBS' music in the late-90s is the most underrated and one of the best music packages ever used on a NASCAR telecast.

This music just screams "NASCAR!"

Although, the only NASCAR intro music I've actually hated is the FS1 theme. Absolutely frickin' terrible, and made even worse when you remember Fox has THE most iconic NASCAR TV theme of all time and only uses it for a handful of Cup races.

While it is possible that Marty Smith might be toward the end of his contract period with ESPN (he signed a "multi year" extension in 2021) it would have to be a massive offer to lure him away from ESPN

I don't know, ESPN is not the king of sports like it used to be, I wouldn't be surprised if people started to leave.

ESPN is a trainwreck.

It's been discussed in some of the downstairs threads, but ESPN really is every bit as bad as people who harbor certain social/political/religious beliefs say.

If it wasn't for Caitlin Clark, I probably wouldn't even know that network exists when it's not football season.

You mean People like you, correct?

No joke

I cannot imagine how social / political / religious beliefs influence one's opinion of a sports network. I would think dislike of a network would cross those boundaries. I have no use for it except the first two rounds of The Masters every year; I wonder what demographics that puts me in?

I definitely don't want to know badly enough to go downstairs.

It's kind like up here but change the proper nouns in Andy's posts from racing things to politicians.

I’d be surprised if Marty left ESPN, he’s one of the faces of their college football coverage and as the sport shifts of conferences becoming the big two of Fox/Big10 vs ESPN /SEC, Marty is going to be the go to SEC guy for ESPN. I’ve said on here in the past he’s the “Country Bro” reporter and with SEC exclusively on ESPN he’s going to be even more so the face of that coverage. I don’t think he leaves for NASCAR and frankly there’s better options. Make an offer to Adam Alexander, I think he’d do great as Cup play by play guy.

I was wondering what he'd do with the rest of the year if he left for someone else's NASCAR coverage.
