Dirtrackr (Justin Fiedler) on YouTube has at least softly broke that Corey Day will be running additional pavement races including an ARCA start at Salem. In addition to that, he has passed along the rumor that Day is already signed to a developmental deal with Hendrick.

I updated my status thing on here last week before knowing of this but yes, please feel free to jump on the bandwagon now. There will be cider and donuts later.

I'm gonna try to make it again this year, had tickets, hotel room and everything paid for but we got pregnant in December and my wife was willing to go with up until about 2 months before race day so I had to sell everything as my brother couldnt go because his own wife is preggers and my dad has gone to enough of these, my friends dont care for racing so sad face. It'll be awesome to see a reigning Brickyard 400 Champ in the Indy 500

True. He’d win 3 or 4 titles in a Labonte or Kenseth fashion in the old style points imho. In this format, I think he’s gotten his one and only already.

At this point, I'm gonna let Corey Day do his thing. If Corey Day does Corey Day Things in ARCA/Trucks/Xfinity, he's gonna be a bonafide star. Like a STAR star, the kind NASCAR hasn't had in a minute. Or he winds up being Kenny Irwin Jr. That's the floor.

What does he race now, strictly dirt ? Apologies as I hope I’m not coming off condescending just trying to learn more. I’ve never heard of him until I think it was you that brought him up. I see he won WoO at Knoxville, that’s insane. He’s only 18!

He primarily runs dirt 410 sprints in the High Limit series; last year he ran the full NARC schedule, which is basically the regional 410 series for the west coast and won the title in dominant fashion. To my knowledge, he has only one appearance on a pavement track: 4/27/2024 at Hickory where they ran Twin 40 lap late model features. He finished 7th out of 12 in the first feature and won the second feature: only person I recognize from the short list of participants is Landon Huffman. Jr Motorsports put him in for that one off.

NARC races are all on Flo and highlight packages from them typically wind up on YouTube. Here's one from Day's win at Kings Speedway from April 2023. I'm pointing at this because #1 he's 17 years old in this racing mostly older and experienced professional racers (yes Dom Scelzi is Gary's son) #2 I use the phrase "Corey Day Things" because more often than almost anyone else in racing, when watching Corey Day, he does things on track that no one else can seem to do. You don't need to know all the ins and outs of sprint car racing to see a guy absolutely slice and dice the entire field of a race en route to winning like this and realize you're seeing something special. When Kenny Wallace said, "Who's that?" to Kyle Larson earlier this year when Kyle called Corey Day "the next me" I knew that somehow, someway, people in NASCAR land weren't hearing about him. Day is in the Black #14; only 6 cars finished in the lead lap of this race.

(Larson also admitted that Corey Day was better than he was when Larson was his age, but did cite that Day's equipment is generally better too, so YMMV with that)

 
Also, here's a full race if you want that from this year: Corey Day goes 15th to 1st and just dominates this show against a ton of heavy hitters including Larson himself.

It's only fitting that he is good. You know what kind of race car drivers comes from California. I think they made a movie about it once. ;) :D

Doesn't hurt that California is the most populated state in the Union lol. :idunno: Oh we got some good Okies from our only 4 million tops state. 😁

I did. Kenny didn't get a chance at a full career but he didn't manage to make waves with Roush when Roush was ROUSH. Swap in JJ Yeley if it makes you feel better.

Well, it's been 24 years, I don't think it's too soon to point out that Kenny's NASCAR career was indeed somewhat disappointing. That's not a knock on Kenny, it's just a fact, and some times facts are uncomfortable, but it doesn't make them any less true. It's also quite possible he would have found his groove at some point and become a great NASCAR driver. Sadly we'll never get to know. Side note to the OP, Kenny was with Yates, not Roush, and then he went to Sabco.
