Enough Is Enough Full Season Championship.

"Most" ....there you go again.....51%? Source? The championship gets pretty simple if SVG wins races.
I'll tell ya what. When you can keep up with the ticker on the side of the screen, I'll believe you can keep up with who is who in the points.
I have a feeling that you are just like the rest of us in that if they didn't tell us on the screen who was above or below the "cut line" we wouldn't have a clue most of the time.

With the caveats that teams and drivers would approach races differently under a different system and that Larson missed a full race, this goes to show that there’s still been a solid bunch of about four drivers at the top who’ve been more consistently successful than everyone else and could produce an exciting stretch run without all of the forced theatrics.

You’ve got the winningest driver (Larson), the guys with the most top 5s (Larson/Bell/Reddick), and the guy with the best average finish (Elliott) all in contention together. Works well enough for me.

Yeah that was my point. The competition is so close these days that all of the complicated ups and downs and confusion of this artificial points system they are using isn't needed.
It seems to me that a simpler points system could achieve the same fan interest if it was presented properly. There is plenty there for the press to be able to spin.

Supercars will debut a somewhat similar knockout format in 2025, unsurprisingly to very mixed reactions. Key differences are that the final four drivers will be seeded leading into the ‘Grand Final’ event weekend at Adelaide, which itself is made up of three races (1x100km, 2x250km).

1) +50
2) +30
3) +15
4) 0

Yeah. Kyle did what other drivers who had a 11 race lead on him couldn't do...
5 wins, 12 top 5s, 16 top 10s , 1 pole...
25 races...
And a Championship..
Kyle played by the rules and won. A conversation about the merits of his championship & NASCAR’s waiver is fair too although I think the subject has been beaten to death.

I think most major racing series will eventually wind up having a playoffs. I can't really fault NASCAR, car reliability is miles ahead of where it was even 30 years ago. The year long title does not make as much sense as it used to, rarely are cars failing due to anything outside of a crash anymore

The guy came back from a broken leg making this a great sports story.....meanwhile we worship a guy who sees NASCAR as a hobby to support dirt, and even is okay skipping a race. Kyle could have said, "Kiss my ass, see ya next year," but chose to participate, and pulled off one of the greatest sports comebacks of all time....but ya know, NASCAR fans....have to find **** in everything. Completely stupid.

My opinion on it is, he won by the rules given. But I personally don’t think he should have been eligible for it. Again that’s my opinion. But i acknowledge by the rules set forth, he did win. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.

You have the old Kyle when he drove for the freaks, and the new Kyle. Revman? well what can ya say, yota king of gaslighting?
The new Kyle is dirt racing with his son, building dirt cars and pavement cars, and once Kyle got away from the loons who live in the bin, he's acquired more fans with a better attitude despite a crappy record than he had with the rice burners.

Old Kyle won, New Kyle not so much. Get that feel good story all over yourself.

The Latford system is dead. Bury it.

This is what we have now, like it or not.

Fans wanted a points system that places emphasis on winning and got it.
To my knowledge, nobody EVER asked the fans what THEY wanted. This was all about NASCAR selling its soul to the TV networks, and having to pay up when the devil came calling. It's one of the great ironies of NASCAR. They so willingly sold their soul for a few extra shiny coins, and then when the car owners come asking for even a little bit more of the pie, NASCAR slams the door in their face.

Nobody and I mean nobody asked for this last clown show. This was all Brian France and NBC. This playoff scheme has done little if nothing for the ratings and popularity of the sport. More importantly it has taken the legitimate champion winner out of the series in place for a one in four lottery type chance against three other drivers who have earned lesser points and we are supposed to swallow the **** sandwich and be happy with it.

Sorry but as Nascar drifts closer to a combination of wrestle mania and stick and ball tournament extravaganza thanks to the TV weasels, there are other alternatives for getting your race fixes in.

NASCAR fans are the biggest complainers in sports. I don’t know how the **** to make them happy.
I mean, you know, they could’ve just gave more points for uh, winning. Guess that was to simple for them to think of. Like are we supposed to just accept everything they give us without complaining about it? “Yes Mr France WHATEVER YOU SAY!”

Before the playoff system when the season long championship was used, the championship was usually down to 2-3 drivers by September. Those drivers started "points racing", their goal was to finish ahead of the other drivers with a chance at the championship.

The playoff system is here to stay. And these things about how the points would look if we still ran the Latford system are silly because everybody races differently now.

The only instances where the comparisons between the old and new systems hold any weight are 2007 and 2010. 2007 because Jeff Gordon ran so damn good that year and was that good through the Chase too. Darth just had a way of turning up the wick in the summer and staying hot. And 2010 because Kevin Harvick's consistency that year was absolutely bonkers. Dude was a threat to win every single race.

The Latford system is dead.

I'm not a big fan of the playoffs, but I do think this system adds a ton of excitement during what used to be the most boring and mundane part of the season, the mid-summer stretch from June through August. And now, instead of drivers riding around for fifth place in July, they're having to get up on the wheel and race. And if your favorite driver isn't having a good season, he/she still has a chance to race his/her way into the playoffs.

No system is perfect.

I prefer sports car racing to any form of oval racing nowadays because it's as pure and organic as racing gets.

And what's the point of bringing up what the TV networks want? There probably wouldn't even be massive television contracts without the Playoffs. In fact, ESPN ONLY wanted to air the final 10 races when NBC ultimately took over their share of the contract. TNT adopted Denny's in-season tournament to drum up interest for their share of the next contract and, even then, probably only signed on because they knew they were going to lose the NBA and needed something, anything.

All that text just because I said they could give the winner more points if they wanna out an emphasis on winning. Nothing about bringing it back, nothing about getting rid of the playoffs. It’s what THEY COULD HAVE DONE INSTEAD.

I remember what Twitter looked like when Jamie McMurray won the Daytona 500 AND the Brickyard 400 and didn't qualify for the Chase.

Then everyone would be complaining about someone only winning 1-2 races and having the championship locked up in October like they were when Matt Kenseth did it.
This is why I said give winning a lot more points, so winning 1-2 races probably wouldn’t be enough. It’s almost like you’re not even reading what I’m saying Andy lol.

I don’t recall any fans clamoring for the playoffs or the CoT. In fact it could be argued that those 2 things are responsible for many fans exiting the series.

I was never bothered by what you described or when the championship was won with a few races left. I liked it better than the lottery system today. This my personal preference and I understand that others think differently.

Along those lines, many times there are close races for positions within the standings that can be interesting. A good example would be Logano. He was win less in 15th place before they fudged up the points. with his win and decent finishes lately he would have jumped up a few spots and he could have some close races with other drivers with similar points. He sure as hell wouldn't be in 4th place at the worst and be able to potentially win a Cup championship. This lottery stuff has really cheapened what it takes to be a Cup champion.

I’m sure we’d have playoffs in that division too. If they could get more than 7 cars to show up every week.
He ran every race, finished well enough in the points to win. If the factory backed hot shots weren't pulled to race in other series one of them could have won the thing. Of course it has nothing to do with the current points lottery system we are talking about lol, but that has never stopped anybody.
