Cup RACE thread: Martinsville

I’ll leave my comment on this from 2 years ago here;

Ross was a fan favorite until he started performing well and roughing up guys. Once he was no longer an underdog, he became the Big Bad Ross.

The rule that came out of the Hail Melon is ripe for NASCAR to use their discretion to **** someone over:

This is the epitome of a grey area rule. It’s racing. Any number of actions “compromise the safety of an Event.” It turns out you can’t ban riding a SAFER barrier without coming up with a wacky rule.

Just like when Online NASCAR Fans wanted Bubba suspended for walling Larson and complained when that precedent was used against Chase, they’ll cry when this rule is used against a fan favorite.

Lmao he broke a rule. If it was the opposite way you would be happy.

We can't have it one way man.

He wouldn't have had to broken the rule if there wasn't confirmed race manipulation by the Chevies over the radio.

This can't be overlooked. It's a ****** up call and Nascar sends the message that teams can manipulate the outcome of the race without consequence.

Can't hate the players. Hate the game. And the game is a broken system

I think the situation with the 3, 1 and 23 was too complex for them to make a decision on right now in the moment, but it wouldn't surprise me if we heard about penalties this week for those teams.

This is why I hope MJ kicks their ass in court.

So me where I said anything different? Also you seemed like you would’ve been okay with Byron letting Larson win. Can’t have it both ways ;)

Any 24 fan cheering this while ignoring Chevy orders is a hypocrite. Deal with it.
I’m definitely not cheering lol. Relieved yes but this was definitely a sham. And now if Byron were to win it all, we’d be talking about this controversy which sucks

Logano was initially eliminated after the round of twelve, only to be reinstated and win his way into the final four.

Byron was initially eliminated after the round of eight… only to go on and win the championship perhaps?

😝

No way. Bubba threw it and he clearly accelerated on the wall
If Bell did not ride the wall, he would have been okay. The Bubba thing is moot, IMHO.

That rule is clear. However, if teams are cutting a "deal" like the 1 and 3 creating a wall... Idk, it's all convoluted to me.

So 2 of the 4 championship participants are there because of NASCAR rulings…if that doesn’t say Game 7 Moments I don’t know what does

Lmao he broke a rule. If it was the opposite way you would be happy.
The thing to me, is he was loose when he got into the wall and gained no spots. The spot he gained was the 23 going backards before that.

I hate doing this, but damn… I’m going full @Revman amd saying that Chadley and Jeff’s-poo’s check cleared.

You seem to be thinking this was the right call there can't be a right call..

I don't like the idea of Byron holding off for Larson / Chase. I would have been happy of course, but it feels sour.

This is just different because it has a bunch of drivers manipulating the outcome of the race.

It's just so so so in our face

I’m pulling for Reddick. He actually has had a great season and is one of the best this year compared to the other 3.

Tooling on Reddick for pissing on himself is my favorite past time

I can't go there with you 😅

Bell not being able to wall ride was the right decision. Now if they DQ Byron also for what Ross and Austin did, I would agree with that also.

We also have to remember Larson backing off of Brad to help a Chevy win.

I loathe Logano, but I want the most illegitimate champ possible. So either him or Blaney. Both did nothing worthy of being champ SEASON WIDE.

Right.

So what happens in that case? Bell lost 4 spots from the penalty. So they penalized him..... 4 spots?

It's just nonsense. It's all nonsense.

That's the conundrum.

A clear cut rule vs. "Hear Say" over the radio. It can easily been seen as such, I say the data and how Ross and Austin were racing Byron was more telling than anything.

Just a wild ending.

I still gotta root for Byron next weekend, but this whole thing put a sour taste in my mouth. We've had a "chase" or "playoffs" for most of my time as a NASCAR fan, but honestly I'm jumping on the bandwagon to just go back to a full season championship. It's controversy literally every season with this format.
